Royal Goat Hotel

It looks a bit grand from the outside and judging from older reviews was once very good but has been left to run down. Perhaps even a result of the barking-mad policy in 2020-21 of destroying the entire tourist and hospitality industry when there's a bit of a bug going around. (Worse in Wales than England - remember that?) Its been taken over - don't know exactly when but I'm guessing relatively recently - and it needs some money spending on it to refurbish and bring it up to better standards. It looks like the new owners have to do that in stages as they work it - I've been there too - don't glibly say that 'they should do this or that' if you don't know the state of the finances. Too many people do that. The stay here was fine. The room we had has clearly been refurbished and was very nice. Very comfortable and well done. A good sign. We arrived late (about 21:10 - not late objectively but this is North Wales!) and it seemed like the whole village had closed - well this is Snowdonia in February). But once we raised the staff they were very accommodating and looked after us. Wifi was very good in the downstairs area, less so in the upstairs room. Breakfast was good. It was in the bar suggesting that the dining room is work in progress. In time they'll have to upgrade the buffet choice, but for now (in February) it was ok. I'd be happy to stay here again. It's clearly got some work to be done and I wish the owners and staff all the best in doing that. Please do stay and support them.

This lovely old hotel building is being mistreated by the current occupiers because they are so clearly mismanaging their business they can no longer afford to keep the central heating on. A chilly couple of nights, and what is more in the restaurant the staff appear to care more for visitors to the bar as passing trades than their residents. I was eating my meal and a loutish couple arrive (seemingly fresh from the set of Quadrophenia - the 21st Century) and all the staff exit the room with them to carry out a conversation with I being left alone with the door open to the outside ajar pouring in cold air into an already beleaguered room temperature situation. Asking this couple not to give a repeat performance on their way out resulted in a tirade of abuse from them with staff doing nothing about it. The hotel was staffed by Asians who clearly did not appear to be anything other than pacifists. Not a lot of use in a fight, and I was serious concerned about my safety. I think the propensity of whatever high that was available that evening kept the altercation in my favour. Not ideal, but I did finish my meal.

We received a warm welcome - even after 8pm on Saturday night - and our lamb shanks & mash were heavenly! (Other eateries in Beddgelert had been too busy to serve us). We returned after our walk on Sunday at 5.30pm to an equally warm welcome and they managed to find us two roast beef Sunday dinners!! Delicious!

It's a great hotel and friendly staff. And yes the hotel is a little dated, but who stays in their room all day. Its been slowly getting updated, the rooms are fine and the staff very helpful. I stayed with my mother for 3 days as I was going hiking in snowdonia. The breakfast is quite sufficient and the continental breakfast bar has all you need. The only reason that I have given this 4 stars is that breakfast is served a little late 8am and being a hiker I like to get up early and head out. So I think if the breakfast was at 7am I would of given it 5 stars. Had an amazing time there and will certainly stay there again.

Had a very pleasant couple of hours here.After a day in Snowdonia we stopped here on Sunday for dinner.Despite being busy they accommodated us straight away. We enjoyed a lovely Roast and curry! Everything homemade and perfectly cooked.Dylan who served us was very pleasant and did all he could to make our visit an enjoyable one.He went out of his way to make us feel welcome and we had an extremely enjoyable time.Thanks Dylan,we will be back!

Only stopped for a single drink on the way back from a day out. No staff to help and a distinct lack of courtesy from the staff. Seemed more concerned about people in their establishment who hadn’t payed their bills (saw them ask 2-3 parties whilst there and were told yes on each occasion). No warmth or welcome. Looks nice but doesn’t feel nice. Wish we had gone elsewhere.
