The Montagu Arms

Went here with my wife for Afternoon Tea. Friendly greeting at reception. Our waitress was ok but not overly friendly. Possibly shy being so young. A few disappointments with the service: When asked what beers they had, she said there was only one type. However, when walking around the bar area later, I saw that they had a whole array of beers! My wife's coffee was luke warm. Had to ask for it to be heated up ! No sugar offered with our tea and coffee. I had to ask. The clotted cream and jam were for one person. I had to ask for another pot of each ! The actual tray of afternoon tea items was average. The ambience, however, was quite amazing. Beautifully maintained gardens. I was in two minds whether to remove the £12 service charge. I left it on. Having said all that, I'm willing to give them another chance. I will go back there in the future for Afternoon Tea. I do recommend this place for Afternoon Tea. We didn't stay in the hotel, so I can't comment on that. Parking is free.

We are regulars at the Montagu Arms. I'm pretty sure we've seen the Terrace Restaurant change hands more than once. Verdict on our dinner: two good plates of food. We also indulged in a mini-version of Afternoon Tea; top quality scones as ever. Our room (Maple) was a feature room overlooking the gardens. Top quality, personal service and comfort. Well done.

We had our wedding at the Montagu Arms in June 2024 both me and my partner were so impressed with the service, produce and facilities we enjoyed during our stay. Clara who organises weddings there was extremely professional, from our very first visit, nothing was too much trouble, she was knowledgeable and attentive to all of our questions and concerns, she helped us formulate exactly the day we envisaged and put us at ease all the way through. When it came to the actual event the hotel looked immaculate as always and every member of staff we encountered were friendly and helpful, a pleasure to be around. I would like to make note in particular of Gerrard (apologies if misspelt) who ran the day. He delivered exceptional customer service, talking us through every step of the day, interacting with the guests without being intrusive, we really were impressed and he deserves credit for the service he and the team delivered. We chose to have the tasting menu on our wedding day and this was truly excellent, I could not fault any course everything was cooked to a very high standard and clearly quality ingredients have been used, compliments to the chef! Our guests have also been singing the praises of the team, the food and the venue, which means a lot, we really are grateful for the memories you enabled us to create and we thank you for this!

Had a lovely evening at the Montagu Arms, it was my husband’s birthday and we had a lovely bottle of sparkly left in the room. Breakfast was delicious and the breakfast room was charming. Gardens beautiful- all in all a lovely one night stay. The village was quaint with lots of coffee shops to call in on - and just the whole ambience of the area made it feel special.

First visited Beaulieu 46 years ago and said to, my now wife, that I would bring her to the Montagu Arms on day. We were not disappointed. Beautiful hotel, friendly, welcoming and attentive staff. We ate at the Terrace restaurant and had an outstanding meal. Hopefully will visit again and not wait so long next time!

The food was good, the garden was nice but the rather small room was a dissapointment compared to Master Builders. Bed was hard and uncomfortable. Joanne on reception (I think, rubbish with names) was a stand out member of staff. Super friendly and went above and beyond to get my suede jacket back to me. Other staff a tad formal. But enjoyed my stay.

We had another dinner at Montagu and it was a real nice surprise! It is a such treat to walk from the carpark to the restaurant through the beautiful garden full of colourful blossom and lovely scents! The staff greeted and served us with very professional and friendly manners! The menu choices are limited because they use seasonal food from their garden and local sources. But we had a wonderful culinary experience from the starters, to the main course and deserts, all well cooked and very tasty. Their freshly baked bread and local sourced butter are very good too! We really had a pleasant quiet evening and will recommend the restaurant to anybody who comes to visit Beaulieu!

We stayed for one night which was fine. Wouldn’t have wanted to stay any longer. Yes it looks lovely and the gardens are nice but the rooms are small and facilities limited. There was a christening party in situ when we arrived and we struggled to get through and find the reception. And if you’ve got a wheeled suitcase good luck getting from the car park to the hotel. A continental Breakfast was included but anything cooked is an extra charge. The barman had to pop to the pub to get some crisps when we had a drink in the bar before dinner. Everything has 12.5% added as a service charge. They did give us a leaving pack of a couple of apples and bottles of water. The staff were friendly.

The afternoon tea was lovely, while waiting for our order they offered us some amuse-bouche, a lovely extra touch we really appreciated. The service was great, we did not get the name of the young lady who served us but we were impressed : she was attentive and we felt looked after.
