Chateau de Bellefontaine

49 Rue de Bellefontaine, Bayeux, Normandy 14400, France
Show on Map
An 18th century chateau a moat a water feature visited by swans and ducks with reflections of the bicentennial trees on its banks these are just some of the charming features that are the mainstay of a romantic or cultural stay. All the rooms boast uninterrupted views of the Normandy countryside just a stones throw from the medieval town of Bayeux and its cathedral. In the chateau the rooms and suites are in keeping with the decor reminiscent of bygone times. Guests enjoy the spacious volumes and the old mouldings and panelling. An exceedingly fine arched cellar serves as the billiard room. The duplexes in the annexes have a different resolutely contemporary style. Youre sure to fall for the charm of this beautiful building.Show More

We booked this hotel because it was in a château and it looked romantic and unique .However there were many details lacking overall. Firstly avoid the restaurant at all costs even though the three course meal was only €29. The food preparation and quality was terrible. Please see attached photos. The salmon I had was overcooked from frozen salmon and the greens were likely frozen greens that were boiled to mush and no longer green. The risotto was just rice coated in some weird cream and had some tasteless pieces of chicken slapped on top. We did not finish the food. They clearly also need more staff as our receptionist was doubling up as a waitress, and we noticed that there were some waits and gaps in service. The room was compact and clean, but the details were lacking. For example, the fixtures and appliances were the cheapest variety possible and didn’t match the Luxe feel that the hotel is going for. The location is slightly out of town and a 20 minute walk to all the main sites in the old town. The grounds were tidy and very pretty in photos.

Horrible room and mediocre hotel do not go there....we got a room in the attic and pigeons trying to go inside the room no AC and it was super hot they gave us a fan. Look at the pictures have you ever seen such a bathroom with a wood beam right down the middle.. Ugh

Very very poor service, reception seem to think customers are an inconvenience, Breakfast poor, better at the Ibis. Unbelievably, they left 2 coffee capsules for 2 customers for 2 nights, if you wanted more then you have to pay !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And if you drink the coffee room service don't even bother to clean your cups. Bathroom door would not shut and very noisy. Nice public spaces but the hotel seems to think as its nice building they don't have to provide a good service.

Lovely building in a good location with a pleasant and hardworking staff, but let down badly by a very, very poor chef. Our two meals in the restaurant were both extremely bad qualaity, which is unusual for France. Water in the room was charged for, and there were only two coffee capsules and two tea bags for our 3 day stay, which made us feel as though corners were being cut. For the price, I regret that this was not a hotel I would recommend (and I am a very experienced traveller).

We first saw Bellefontaine on a touching movie "A Foreign Field" that was created for the 50th anniversary of the debarquement, and filmed partly at the château. There was always the possibility that it might be a disappointment, but I am happy to say it wasn't. This hotel is a little gem, situated just 15 minutes walk from Bayeux centre, yet quiet and remote, a peaceful haven. The welcome was near perfect. Our room was not quite ready, so we were seated on the terrace and supplied with a drink each, a speciality of the hotel. Soon we were shown to our room which was splendid. Elegant, spacious, well furnished and scrupulously clean. Over two days we loved every minute. The staff deserve particular mention, both in reception and in the restaurant we were made to feel special guests. Should we ever visit Bayeux again, and we well might, we would consider nowhere else. Bellefontaine would be our home.

We stayed at your hotel on the 5 May 2024 We had a lovely stay for the night- we loved our room on the top floor, very spacious and clean, lovely bar fridge in the room. It was about a 10min walk from the centre of town- no hills so just a lovely way to get in some exercise! Overlooking the gardens from our room was so nice whilst sipping on a glass of wine. Great to have such a spacious bathroom with all the extras freely available in Normandy! Small extras like a shower cap, a shoe mitten to shine up our shoes- these small things matter as is appreciated! Thanks for the tip from Noemie- the manageress on duty- about the prices of food at the sight-seeing sights! After a wholesome and very tasty breakfast , I packed in a couple of croissants, some cheese and jam as well as fruit- it sustained us the whole day and there was no need to incur any further expenses on food. The staff was helpful although I had two problem issues: - The TV was stuck on the snooker channel?? - The internet was rather poor. But overall, a very pleasant stay at the Hôtel Château De Bellefontaine
