A beautiful very well appointed hotel with ample parking, really, really great staff, great breakfast. Sadly the rooms are in desperate need of a refurb. Very dated and grubby, bathroom has black mould and damage. Dated furniture is marked and damaged as are the walls, a birthday treat so really disappointing

Lovely historic hotel, beautifully set up with lovely staff. Parking was easy with a concierge to make sure it was all legally parked and paid for. Loved the bar and the afternoon tea. Service was great and the staff fantastic. Couple of downsides ... the room was noisy. We had an Angel Classic and the outside noise was quite disruptive especially early in the morning. Double glazing would help! And the shower wasn't the best ... Hard to get in and out and difficult to maintain the temperature. Otherwise a great stay!

We enjoyed a vey comfortable one night stay at this excellent hotel. Our room was spacious , clean and had air con which was a welcome surprise on the warmest night of the summer so far ! We enjoyed some great cocktails in the bar, and whilst we didn’t have an evening meal here the food and menu looked good and the restaurant was buzzing . Breakfast was excellent. Service was very good all round , from checking in to concierge car parking to drink/ food . Highly recommended and will return soon!

We did get an upgrade to a Copper Room which always make one well disposed to a hotel, but even before we reached our room we had a warm welcome with our car taken off to be parked on site, very stylish interiors and a prime location on the main square directly opposite the Abbey and magnificent Cathedral. Definitely eat at the hotel as the restaurant was equally stylish and the food incredibly good - as was breakfast the following morning. The room was huge with a view of the abbey/cathedral and many nice touches. Couldn’t fault this hotel

Really mixed feelings about this hotel. Held my wedding reception in The Vaults back at the end of March and the food and service from (Cryssos and Megan especially) was impeccable. The buffet was plentiful and the guests all really loved both the space of The Vaults and the food and service. Unfortunately we spent our wedding night and following night there (groom did stay the night before and is not as fussed as me) but I didn't see the room until our wedding night and was quite mortified that they had put us in such a disgustingly dirty and run down room! I didn't comment to management at the time as we wanted to enjoy a couple of days together without wasting our time being moved rooms or complaining, but as you can see from the pics the room is past it's best. Filthy stains on headboard. Stained shower cubicle and old and run down decor - this is hardly luxurious for a £200+ room. Especially for a wedding night -and something that was meant to be an indulgent treat for us. Fabulous view out of the window though, but sadly I am totally put off staying at this esaltablishment which seems to have invested all its money in revamping the bar and restaurant and is not spending anything on the rooms...I do feel ripped off and as others have previously pointed out these failings in reviews, I can only presume the management simply don't care. Shame, as could be something spectacular. So a good place to eat and drink, but I wouldn't advise staying, as seems hit and miss on the quality of the rooms.

My husband and I stayed at the Angel hotel for two weeks in September. We also stayed for two weeks in July. This is a lovely hotel. The staff are fabulous. They really make the whole place ,we only had breakfast, and it was absolutely lovely every time. The breakfast is served to you, so there is no buffet bar. This is a lovely to way to have your breakfast. People tell me that their restaurant is lovely and the food is delicious. It is a boutique hotel and rather beautifully designed with lovely decor. We had an impression room, and it was designed lovely and had a lot of room. Housekeeping came every day , stocked everything up, made your bed and cleaned up. Again the housekeeping staff are lovely. Bury St Edmunds is a lovely place, the park is absolutely beautiful, with lots of benches to sit on. We visited Cambridge, Ely, Norwich, Lavenham and a few other places. Bury St Edmunds is a handy place to to visit other areas. Thank you to all at the hotel for making our stay reallly memorable and restful, just what we need after a very busy year of many downs and quite a few ups.

Lovely visit to The Angel. From arriving to leaving team looking after us was excellent. Lovely room on third floor - there is a lift but a little way from room no 462. Very comfortable bed and nice decor although maybe needing a little touch up here and there. Good en-suite facilities and toiletries. Little awkward as shower was in bath so you have to take care. Hotel did provide non-slip bath mat on request. The room overlooked back of hotel so outlook not so good but at least it was quiet. Lovely restaurant with attentive team and food quality and presentation for both breakfast and evening meal was excellent. Surroundings and atmosphere was really relaxing. Help from concierge on arrival was good as carpark is a little on small side. Hotel is in an excellent position for exploring the area. This hotel is a little gem.

This is an excellent place to enjoy quality drinks in a beautiful setting. The place is dim lit (in a good way) with a good selection of quality drinks and attentive staff. The drinks in this beautiful hotel were cheaper and better than the drinks in our poor chain hotel up the road. Thoroughly recommended for drinks.

Steve the porter was brilliant, very efficient, pity he couldn't wait on tables in the lounge area too, on many occasions we have waited for service and I have mentioned this before on previous reviews but still nothing has been done, the lounge never seems to be overly busy and our table where we had coffee was dirty from the previous day.
