The Boathouse

Ideal if you want to visit Bath, but don't want a bustling central location. Comfortable rooms & beds. Good shower. Excellent breakfast. Helpful staff. So pleasant to be by the river watching the boating world go by & lots of wildlife. Park & ride next door for easy access to Bath centre.

Being resident in Bath, I go to Hall & Woodhouse in Old King Street fairly frequently but had never been to the Boathouse so went there for lunch with a friend, which was excellent. Waiting staff were friendly and the food very good. As I had friends visiting Bath for the weekend, I booked a specific table for Sunday lunch. Upon arrival I was advised that the table was still occupied and when I asked what other table they could offer, the manager, said there were no other tables available and that he had no idea when one would be. When I questioned why, his response was "it's a Sunday and we're very busy". He did not go out of his way to help or offer a solution, he just let my party stand there wondering what we should do. After a while a couple, who were leaving offered us their table, which was not ideal as it was by the door to the outside area and very cold. I emailed head office of Hall & Woodhouse who said they would pass the message and ask the Boathouse to respond. They didn't. When I wrote again to the head office they said once again that they would chase it and get them to respond, 3 months later still nothing. So, a word of warning to any potential diners for Sunday lunch at The Boathouse, Bath - even double checking your booking may not be sufficient to guarantee that when you arrive your table will be secured, or indeed they will be able to accommodate you. I will put this down to unfortunate experience, and certainly not what I have come to associate with the Hall & Woodhouse brand as a whole.

Simply beautiful place and location. The bedroom was gorgeous so comfortable with a lovely bathroom. The staff are exceptional as is the location, on top of this is the exceptonal breakfast. Close by is a cheap park and ride into Bath what more could you ask for. Already planning our next stay.

We were served by a delightful young lady, Maisie. She had a huge smile. Was so very helpful and polite. It makes such a difference Ps. The food was brilliant, we sat by the river and totally enjoyed the experience. Probably a good move to go mid week.

Such a lovely setting and location. Not much help or direction from staff. Food was overpriced for portion that was given and wasn’t particularly exciting. Glad we already had a discount otherwise would’ve made complaint about food. Wouldn’t revisit.

The food was nice and we had great service. Portion sizes were small - our group all agreed and we are not over weight people. Overall therefore I didn’t think the meal was value for money. I don’t think anyone should leave a restaurant, still hungry.

Met my friend for coffee, and days later had a parking ticket demanding £100! So did my friend. Inadequate signage, no staff mentioned anything about registering your car Reg, so had no idea about it. Despite showing the receipt to the Boathouse whose head office has this arrangement with the private parking company they say they can’t help. So potentially £200 for two coffees !

Visited with family, including two little ones under three. Very friendly and well looked after throughout. Food was very good. Three Cornish breakfasts just at you would expect of a high quality breakfast and one eggs royale which was also great and a great suggestion to serve sauce on the side. Kids also loved their breakfast. Coffee great too! We look forward to for visiting again.

What a little gem of a place right beside the River Avon on the outskirts of Bath. A beautiful old house next to the stand up paddle board club. We had a delicious dinner - with free bottle of house white - before sitting out on the terrace overlooking the water. The bedrooms were delightful - all different to each other and not feeling like a hotel more like someone’s lovely home. very comfy and welcoming
