We came for a long weekend as a family of 3 ( our son is 6) The family rooms are massive, great to have a proper bed for our son instead of a sofa bed. Lovely big bath. The hotel itself is like stepping back in time and if you like character and original fittings you'll love it as much as we do. Nothing is too much for the staff who are really friendly and attentive. The bed are comfy and even at 12° outside the rooms were super cosy. I really love this hotel and the character, it makes me smile 😃 If you like modern and sterile don't come, if you like character , good old fashioned hospitality and value for money, this is your place. Thank you Douglas! We'll be back soon! Ps. It's a 10 min drive from the natural seawater swimming pools and the laguna where there is a lovely pond and lots of ducks.

This hotel is hilarious - think Fawlty Towers with added charm. It’s old fashioned and woefully understaffed, but the few staff that do work there are delightful and apologetic. Dinner is chaotic - get there at 6.30pm if you actually want to eat and make your life easier by booking to have the set menu - everything else takes hours. When we were there it was solely occupied by walkers like us, so people were eating and having an early night. The room itself was vast and clean and the beds were comfy. Perhaps three stars is a bit mean - maybe an extra one for quirkiness.

We stayed for 3 nights when on a walking trip to the island, booked for us by our travel company. Our bags were waiting in reception when we arrived, after booking in the receptionist gave us a tour of the facilities, we had to order our evening meal when we arrived at the restaurant, no offer was made to help with our luggage, there are no lifts. Our room was down several flights of stairs, and although it was clean and comfortable, with plenty of hot water, it seemed dark, lacking natural light. The public areas had an tired, musty feel, the stair carpet was faded and worn, the whole place was in need of talc. We had to wait an hour for our starter, a mixed salad ordered several hours before, the waiting staff were very apologetic, all we could hear from the kitchen was shouting. The following morning the owner rudely and quite aggressively told us we hadn’t waited an hour, only 30 minutes, he didn’t even bother with good morning. He proceeded to blame the staff for not taking the order to the kitchen quickly enough and not turning up, we found his approach very unprofessional. The incident soured our stay and we were rarely acknowledged. We found the restaurant staff very attentive, helpful and friendly but won’t be returning.

We arrived early in the morning at this hotel. It is an old hotel that is in need of a fresh makeover. We were lucky because we got our room right away. Our very spacious room smelled of furniture polish. Everything dark brown. But the bed had a snow-white duvet. A super clean room. Also nice thick white towels. Too bad there was a shower curtain by the bath. I never like that. There is really nothing to do in Barlevento. And because there were no restaurants we ate in the hotel twice in the evening. The food was above expectations. Very tasty and good with fresh products. The bar and restaurant were manned by Bergitta and her Polish colleague. They were super friendly and warm. The breakfast was also good. If desired, a fresh omelette was made for you. This hotel was above expectations.

It's getting worse. Staff with no experience in hospitality make you wait forever to be served in a mediocre way. It's a real shame, since it's a hotel that I've known for more than 20 years and that was a true icon on the island of La Palma. Nowadays only a few foreigners come here who regret it once they have experienced such a sad experience.

The hotel is in an exceptional natural setting. This is undoubtedly one of its greatest strengths. The service provided by the staff is also very adequate. I have rated it as Average for the following reasons. Its facilities need renovation, updating and modernisation. I got the feeling that the poor chambermaids were few and had an excessive workload. The bar-restaurant, on the other hand, had a short menu and was somewhat overpriced, but affordable. In short, the hotel is in a setting that is worthwhile, but needs investment.
