Hotel El Palace Barcelona

Barcelona City Centre Barcelona|0.82km from Bingo Billares
We stayed 7 nights in this historic hotel and celebrated a special occasion during our trip. The hotel is truly beautiful & elegantly decorated, however the service levels were inconsistent and sorely disappointing for a hotel of this standard & price. Also, there was unfortunately no special factor that made this hotel memorable. Rooms - we booked a classic double room for 3 people & got upgraded to a deluxe room on a high floor. While I appreciated the upgrade and the room decor was beautiful, the bathroom (while spacious) was in visible need of refurbishment. The paint was badly peeling in certain parts, the closet doorknob came off on our third day, the glass shower door wouldn't close fully so the bathroom got wet during a shower. I'm not expecting a newly renovated room but for the price, the room should at least be in good working condition. Housekeeping - was very inconsistent and there was a severe lack of attention to detail. Some examples: - Upon check in, the room curtain was unhooked from the first hook and messily hanging - it took 3 days for housekeeping to finally notice & fix this. - For the entirety of our stay, all room amenities were provided for 2 (not 3) people despite us having booked & paid for 3 people. - Used wine glasses & water mugs were not washed for several days until we called housekeeping to do so. - On several days, I came back to my luggage having been moved haphazardly (I think they were trying to make up the extra bed) and not put back in its place. - Turn down service was done beautifully on some days and not at all on other days. Rooftop terrace - was a gorgeous place to dine, food was excellent and the service was lovely. We felt very welcome here and it was a real treat dining here! Definitely try the rooftop terrace at least once! Front desk, concierge and bellman were excellent. The concierge was helpful with dining recommendations and guest relations gave us a cake for the special occasion we were celebrating. The bellman was attentive to get us taxis & always greeted us with a smile. Breakfast - is definitely worth a try! The breakfast room is beautiful and the drawing room leading to it is so regal & gorgeous. Generous spread of food & service was warm as well. Amar - dined here & paid over 400 euros but it was a shockingly disappointing experience. The bread, starters, petit fours & decor were wonderful - but the 200 euros of seafood we ordered was not fresh at all and the service was disinterested & careless. We were abit shocked at how bad it was for a Michelin restaurant. Bluesman cocktail bar - did not try. There's a 50 euro per pax minimum spend but perhaps this could be waived for hotel guests who are already paying a lot for a room. Overall, we enjoyed our stay but felt greatly let down by the service standards at this otherwise lovely hotel. Unfortunately, I highly doubt I'd return here again but sincerely hope the hotel improves its service standards to match its elega

Great hostel for Interrailing. Good Aircon in room and sometimes in ground floor common area. Also has first floor common area with pool table and table football and other tables and 2 computers and massive roof terrace, but both of these floors often too hot to use in summer. Laundry with 2 machines and 1 drier. Looks like domestic machines using a quick wash (25-35mins) so not entirely sure if it is a good wash, but others report all fine, except drier not that good. We used an air-conditioned laundry/bar 2 streets away where you have new commercial machines (30mins but designed for this time, with lovely food, drinks and beer). Showers and toilets and wash basins all out of the room, but clean and lots of them. Kitchen ok, no oven, 6 hobs, 2 microwaves, 1 large (and very full) fridges. 2 sinks. No free breakfast of any kind including no free drinks. Cold beer (cans) on sale at reception €2. Towels €3. WiFi good. Beds are cabins type, with light (sometimes too bright and too hot), and electric plug {no usb}). Air con left on in rooms during day so can use. Sometimes turned down at night so it can get hot. Ground floor common area Aircon often on low during day so can also be too hot. Electronic card controlled locker and main door and dorm door entry. No padlocks needed. Large lockers, but not big enough for hard luggage. Can't cook between 11pm and 7am. Common area sometimes closed in the early morning, but can be extremely noisy (our first 2 nights) til maybe 2am from common area (ear plugs and mask recommended). Dorm lights on automatic and switch off at about 11.30pm and on about 8am (or something like that). Machines in common area for snacks and drinks and hot drinks but supermarket directly opposite and many in area. Final recommendation buffet sushi place 3 streets away €15.50 night about €11 in day, no drinks included, air con, can order from picture menu and just keep ordering and keep ordering until you are very full! Have to order at least 1 drink. Relaxed and great. 50mins walk (or take 1 bus €2.40, just swipe your bank card or phone) to magic fountain. Feels safe.

During my 3 month stay in Spain I traveled a lot and stayed at many hostels. But this one was a totally different story. This hostel is community-oriented with many activities for youth; offers free cereal breakfast, coffe and tea. Amazing receptionist Alu was super nice and kindly helped me with everything I needed. I am super thankful for this experience and will definitely recommend it to friends.

Staff friendly; location is good to segrada familia; very busy, to be expected. Comfortable bedding; great breakfast included; only negatives were the lobby “bar” is never open, no happy hour, Barcelona is in complete construction mode everywhere, noisy all day long. Took a trip to Sitges and enjoyed the beach. Recommend two days in Barcelona is enough for most people! Highly recommend Tuscania, say hello to Danielle for us. We ate there 3 times in four days, great view of the segrada from your outdoor table.

Decent location within walking distance of the Sagrada Familia. Subway and bus stations two blocks away. Reasonably quiet except for construction work nearby staring at 0800 every morning and occasionally barking dogs. Tiny, slow elevator. The room was clean, but small and basic. It had a safe and a small desk area. No coffee maker, kettle or fridge. Comfortable bed and pillows. Bathroom with everything in working order. No toiletries other than liquid soap and shampoo. Slow wifi. Key cards of very low quality; stopped working twice, even though I didn't keep them anywhere near my phone. Overall an ok place if you don't spend much time in your room, but quite overpriced at an average nightly rate of 150 euros (without breakfast).

Located about 15 mins walk from Plaça de Catalunya and about 10 minutes from metro station Arc de Triomphe. Hotel lobby is cool and modern. The receptionists were friendly and helpful. We stayed for three nights and our room was on the 6th floor. It was surprisingly quiet, facing away from the street (apart from in the morning when we heard noise from the corridor from passers by). The room was comfortable, the bed very much so, and featured not one but two showers! It had a fridge and safe and, strangely, a kettle and two cups but no coffee or tea. It was a good, reasonably priced base for exploring the city. One negative was the cleanliness. We were very surprised at how dusty the room was… I mean there were dust balls on the floor! To the hotel’s credit, the dust was whisked away, and a dirty mirror cleaned, when my husband pointed it out to the cleaners. We cannot comment on the breakfast as we didn’t go for it. The hotel is surrounded by bakeries, cafes and supermarkets so there are plenty of breakfast options on the doorstep.

Considering this is 2* it was perfect for our needs. It’s location is good - close to arc d’triomph metro/train station so easy to get from airport but not so busy that it’s noisy at night. Most things are walkable in 30 ish mins but if that’s not your thing the metro is 5 mins away. 2 supermarkets within 2 mins. Good kitchen facilities (oven, 2 ring hob, fridge/freezer, stovetop coffee machine, pans etc). Staff are helpful and there was a safe operated with the room key. On check out they stored our bags till late afternoon. Beds comfy enough and we did eventually figure out how to turn the dubbing off the tv so we could watch a couple of things in English. Would stay here again
