The Shoppes at Banks Crossing

Days Inn & Suites by Wyndham Commerce

Commerce|0.4km from The Shoppes at Banks Crossing
I selected the Days Inn & Suites in Commerce for an overnight stay while traveling based on the outward appearance of the hotel in the photograph (it looked modern) and the mostly positive reviews. What I found was that the hotel obviously had had an exterior face lift fairly recently so that it looks fairly new from the outside. This is a 2-story hotel with inside entrances (another reason I selected it) but it has no elevator, only stairs! My room was on the second floor. The room left a lot to be desired - thin carpet, that looked like it hadn't been vacuumed recently, a very squeaky floor, constant, loud highway noise, hard mattress, loose, hard to operate faucet handle in the shower/bath, barely warm shower water that started to cool down before the end of my shower, and aged furniture that looked like it was from the 1970's. On a positive note, the bathtub, toilet, and lavatory were very clean, and there were 100's of stations available on the TV. Breakfast was atrocious. I would have had the scrambled eggs and sausage but there was standing water around the eggs and the sausages were a pale, grey color - neither looked appetizing. The grits were very good looking so I filled a bowl, but when I put the first spoonful of grits in my mouth I had to spit them out. It wasn't the taste but the texture - it was as if someone had replenished the grits by simply dumping uncooked grits into the container of cooked grits, supposedly thinking they would cook that way. They didn't. It was like putting sand in your mouth. The biscuit was very good, as were the slices of raisin bread I toasted. For $104 plus tax you should get decent room and a decent breakfast. I will never stay at this hotel again.
