This is a wonderful Hotel. We are getting married and had our reception dinner there as well as put family up there for the night. The service, staff, food and facilities were great. Will most certainly recommend this place to anyone.

The only thing I can say are having a fantastic function there, with the hopes of booking again, decency in returning an email goes along way. Something that owners may wish to review, not management. On the plus side we had a great night, all guests had a great time the feedback from the night was excellent. From the food, to the staff to the rooms. Only a pity that communication seems to be wayward, and past from pillar to post. Happy New Year

We attended family wedding in this 4 star hotel over the past week. Majority of us stayed there for 2 nights with some there for 3. Wedding rate for one night was 79.50 which you would think would be a reduced rate yet hotel advertised 65.00 including dinner for Christmas break🤔🤔🤔???? When I asked about it I didn't get any where. Night before wedding - The bride and groom had a meal in bar the evening before with parents etc. We joined them about an hour or more after they finished eating, yet their dinner plates etc still on the tables with heap of glasses and bottles. We cleared everything to tables that were already filled with plates, cutlery etc. Getting a drink was a joke as the staff were so clueless and lacked leadership. All through few days they made no eye contact. How would they even expect a tip???? There was a huge function in the hotel ballroom but I am sure this impacted on the restaurant and bar service. I have worked in the hospitality industry in the past and this hotel has the worst I have seen from bar service as they lacked insight into getting things done and serving customers. This hotel is a gem in Ballinasloe and I regret that I have to write this as in the past I have had good experiences but this terrible, need proper management in all areas. On this night a number of us were driving so were drinking sparkling water and still water, Not Tap Water but yet our drinks in plastic glasses like if we were in a night club. Shortage of glasses???? I had to use the rest room, 4 cubicles with Out Of Order, 1 without toilet paper at 8.30 pm despite big function in ballroom. So disappointed for the Groom and Bride To Be. Wedding day - bar service poor. It is December and people had coats and scarfs, we enquired about cloak room or place for same and staff said there was nothing and that we put in our chairs. As wedding took place in Foyer adjacent to main ballroom, we went to area which was very dark, lacking ambience. Little trees but fairy lights on same not working. As we waited for bride, what seem to be a manager brought a number of people through the area where we were sitting waiting for the bride, into the ballroom and then a few minutes came out through the same area. Could have met bride and bridesmaids coming in, total disregard for the ceremony. We moved to the main reception area for drinks reception. A tray of sandwiches left out beside soup but then mother of the bride had to get them to bring more??? The food and drink were lovely here but again tables full of glasses, plates etc and guests had to manoeuvre. Meal was nice but the staff seemed to be hopping from one thing to another. Positive thing lady at my table had very specific dietary requirements and one staff member assigned to her who was excellent. Meal was over and then the manager and another staff member started to clear the floor for dancing ie move tables which were full with glasses, dessert dishes, cups, saucers etc. Guest had to move the cha

The Management of this hotel need a serious review. We attended the Shearwater Hotel for a family wedding On December 30th. We went into the hotel the night before to meet the bridal parts. Too say the bar service was poor was a understatement and left us wondering what it would be like the day of the actual wedding. On the wedding day nothing had improved, only two staff behind the bar for a busy bar was simply not good enough, the staff were rude and very slow at serving the drinks, they had no ability to take more than one order and were well trained in how to keep their head down, avoid eye contact and not engage with customers. The counters and tables were littered with empty glasses and bottles and obviously nobody was assigned for collecting glasses or dealing with the build up at the bar. For the area where the wedding ceremony was to take place was decorated nicely, one observation was that there was lovely little trees along the isle that all had sets of fairy lights on them, I went to try turn on the lights and no set on any of the trees were working, this would have been a lovely simple touch to have got sorted for the ceremony. The ceremony was due to start at 2pm but minutes before the ceremony started the manager brought another couple and their friends (who obviously were checking the venue out for their own wedding day) through the area into the ballroom and back out a short while later, this was very un professional as there was lots of other times they could have carried out this viewing apart from holding the bride up from walking down the isle. Onto the meal and this was one of positive of the few days in the Shearwater, the meal was beautiful and served in a very good time frame. The real issue was that the manager was directing staff to serve each table, he looked like he really didn't want to be there, The quickly moved from table to table but the manager or waitresses not once asked anyone at the table were they ok for everything or was everything ok. It really wouldn't have taken a lot. The bride and groom had told us their package included 3 glasses of wine and a glass of prosecco when they arrived to the table. The prosecco was on the table and was nice, we received two glasses of wine but a number of tables never even received a second glass of wine. When the meal was over the manager started moving chairs and the tables off the dance floor for the dance area to be clear. He was not very polite in the way he approached people to get this done. The meal was over two hours and out table and ones around us still have side plates, cutlery, gravy boat, bread rolls from starter, napkins etc. I went to reception and asked if this could be addressed and it was only then that some staff came into clear off the tables properly after service. Really not good enough. During the night the toilets became very grubby and dirty and at one stage there was a spillage or similar that had bundles of toilet paper in it outside
