Recently got married in the Great national hotel ballina and we both can't recommend this venue enough. The food is amazing, the rooms they have for events are stunning and the staff are so incredibly tuned in you can't help but feel like a celebrity everytime you visit. Massive respect for Denise the hotels wedding coordinator. She was fantastic from start to finish, she and her staff had the place looking absolutely amazing on the day. When you see first hand how good of a job Denise & her team do its really not hard to understand why they have won wedding venue of the year. We've seen over 40 hotels across the country in our search for a venue, the great national was the last venue we saw and it only took us 2 minutes to decide the great National was the perfect fit. If you're looking to book a venue I highly recommend popping in to see Denise, you won't get better treatment anywhere else. A special shout out to Alex. Everytime we came into the restaurant he'd greet us with the biggest smile & wave. He couldn't have been more helpful and we were delighted to see him working on our big day. He helped a very nervous groom by keeping a cold pint in his hand and constantly reassuring him everything was ok and that the wife to be won't be too late You honestly won't meet a nicer person then him. In short: Best wedding venue, fantastic wedding coordinator, lovely staff, excellent management team, food is amazing (top class chef's), the hotel itself is beautiful and very conveniently located. Highly recommend the Great National hotel ballina for any events, weekends away, spa treatments or even just a bite to eat

We stayed here for 3 miserable nights. This trip away was meant to be relaxing and romatic and it was far from it. The hotel seems like a nice upstating hotel as it 4 stars but we were fooled. We greeted by refugees and a check in girls who was nice an pleasent. The room is baige and offers the bare minimum comforts the bathroom is small croggy. Tv is small and out dated which suits the room. Walls are thin could hear foot steps from outside woke me up a few times. When we came back down after sorting our clothes out and freshend up we went down for drinks and food. We pre booked and waited good 40 mins to be seated after all the refugees were in and out pushing through . We finally get a table cramped in the corner. We were not treated like guest at all. Waiting another 20mins for a drink and then starts nothing was orgainsed. Not managed well at all. The food was ok nothing to write home about. We tried to get few drinks but the bar is very small and we took our drinks upstairs as we felt safer. The next day we came down for breakfast simple lay out. Had as twice for the coffee. But it filled us up and we explored Mayo. We came back around 1pm for a swim and to get ready for the evening. No electricity or water in the place. Couldn't believe it. We sat down waiting for a staff member to explain what was happening no body cared all i could find was refugees in their droves. They had no water or facilities till around 9pm. Next day we got a swim in pool are is unhygienic and very run down. Images on google or here is filtered. At this stage couldnt wait to check out. After the 3 nights we checked out and I gave back this feedback to deaf ears funny enough no manager around , they took my name number for a phone call back never happened so I retured the favour myself and rang them asking for compensation which they agreed nothing happend left. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone It was waste if money. Not grand about it.

We booked an overnight stay in this hotel based on a relative's recommendation. It was just as expected, a good-sized room with a comfortable bed and a clean bathroom. The buffet breakfast was good. There was a nice selection of cereals, croissants, juices, toast, etc, and also a selection of cooked food. We had our evening meal in the restaurant and enjoyed it, service was efficient and friendly. Overall the overnight stay booked off the hotel website represented great value when some hotels are charging outrageous prices. The reception and foyer area is beautiful and creates a marvellous impression. If visiting Ballina again we would certainly book in again. Thank you.

Very disappointed with our experience....beds in the room had no head boards ...windows had no safety lock to stop kids failing out ......the TV was from 1980s ..the mattress was stamped 2007 and u could tell it was old ..breakfast was a joke . I explained all this to staff before I left and was told a manager would contact me .....witch he/she never did ...cause of this won't be going back Won't be going back

A hitel with great charm and ambiance. The rooms have a unique design and spacious. Bathrooms and big and well maintained. Bottled water and tea and coffee making facilities are available in the room A wide section of hot and cold food was served for breakfast. The staff were very helpful and couldn't so more to make our stay comfortable

My partner & I stayed here last weekend, booked a DELUXE DOUBLE room & paid almost €600 (that's with 15% discount off for booking direct) I do want to stress that most of the staff that we encountered where lovely. But it seriously needs said, that in no way is this hotel worthy of its 4 star rating. I requested a room with a walk in shower - it was a wet room, with no shower curtain or doors around the shower, so every time we got a shower, the bathroom literally flooded. We explained this to the lady at reception when we where asking for more towels & she just nodded her head, grunted & went back to what she was doing. The water in the bathroom smelled like sewage & was off colour, how is anyone supposed to make tea with that? We bought bottled water the whole time we where there. The bed was supposed to be a Deluxe double - it was 2 single beds pushed together - not 2 single bases with a king-size mattress, which we have had in a few other hotels.... literally 2 single beds - the large join in the middle made it extremely uncomfortable. The TV in the room was pre-historic.... I'm not asking for a 40" flat screen, but it's 2024. Plus it only had 2/3 channels. The fuse box in the room hummed/buzzed constantly. One lady at reception told us to take our card out during the night - we couldn't do that as we take an electric cooler box with us for my partners diabetic medication. Another member of staff told my partner "yeah, they all do that"! The breakfast was good, unfortunately dinner was not. My partner ordered the steak sandwich, which the menu says, comes with chunky chips - it arrived, half a soft sub roll with 5 peices of steak (overcooked) in it, with frozen chips. The cocktails where most definitely made with a pre mix. The noise at all times of the day shows that noise proofing is needed - on the 1st floor anyway. The one saving grace of this hotel is the beer garden... we had beautiful weather and it was lovely to be able to sit out. I accept that this review is quite harsh - reason being, we have stayed in a number of 4 star hotels, so are used to that type of accommodation. This hotel is definitely not up to others standards.

Bed was very comfortable and great pillows. Very welcoming restaurant staff, very friendly. Unfortunately, the gym was a let down. Needs a little upgrade especially the weights section. We didn't use the leisure centre. It was a little off putting having non residents walking through the dining area constantly. Other than that we had a good stay.

Unfortunately my experience was mediocre, dinner on Sunday evening, had to wait 45minutes for the food, which was Bland, I will not recommend your hotel. On arrival I had to request hot water to have a shower, at breakfast I had to request a pot of tea, otherwise I would not have got any beverage
