We stayed here as part of a group tour. The first impressions were great as the staff took our luggage to our accommodation and they gave us a helpful briefing about the island. We were also welcomed with cold towels and a cold drink which was very welcome. The island does get very busy, particularly on weekends with day trippers, but we liked that there was a beach specifically for hotel guests. The hotel also has a pool but we didn’t use this. Our room was really nice with a comfy bed and fluffy pillows and good air con. We had a safe, a fridge and kettle and tea and coffee, and the bathroom was nice and spacious. We also had sofas to sit and relax with a tv. The only point I would make is that there were no shelves to put your clothes on in the rooms but we got creative and took the ironing board out of the cupboard and created our own makeshift shelf. It was so sweet that the staff left us a weather forecast on a card for the next day, and some chocolates in our room. The restaurant on the island was really good with nice breakfast choices and dinner options. Breakfast was included and we thought the food options and drinks were reasonably priced. We were also serenaded by a band who played a few songs for us at dinner which was fun. We loved walking along the pier where you could see baby black tips, puffers, needle fish and shoals of fish - anchovies. There are a lot of sandflies and mosquitoes on the island and in our room we were given a plugged in repellant along with a candle to deter them which the staff lit for us. Even though we wore repellent at night (dusk and dawn), we got so many bites so it is worth covering up at night; especially legs and feet. We also got lots of stings on the snorkelling trip from sea lice, so if you are sensitive to bites and feel allergic, we would recommend that you wear a long wetsuit or lycra pants if you have them. We had a lovely relaxing time here and it was a very enjoyable stay for us.

The Aru Hotel at Aru Suites

Tanjung Aru
The hotel room which I stayed was very confortable, with wide space, big bed, clean bedsheets and near to eating places and also near to the airport. Initially I was afraid the noise from the airplanes may disturb my sleep as my room was facing on the left side of the building, but to my surprise I did not hear planes flying so I was happy that I didn't experience any noise to disturb my tranquility. The only con is there is no restaurant in the hotel so my breakfast came as a bento like box takeaway. No coffee also, the coffee is available in the room but is chargeable. Only the tea bags are free. The parking is multi-storeyed and managed electronically. You put your car into the car lift and it is then parked automatically one car at a time. To retrieve your car, you need to scan your hotel card for it to be brought down via the car lift again. It may be time consuming if you are in a hurry and there are a few people in the queue before you.

Shangri-La Tanjung Aru, Kota Kinabalu

Tanjung Aru
I've had the privilege of staying in numerous Shangri-La's throughout Southeast Asia, and this particular one felt somewhat dated and in dire need of modernisation. I could see signs of improvements in progress, with sections that appeared to have already received a facelift. On my first day, I ventured to the sauna, only to find the temperature so lukewarm that I couldn't even work up a sweat. I voiced my discontent, and I'm pleased to report that the issue was addressed promptly by the next day. One aspect that left me somewhat disenchanted was the interaction, or rather lack thereof, between the staff and guests. It didn't quite embody the exemplary service one would expect from a high-end 5-star establishment. However, there was a shining exception to this observation - Addy, who was stationed at the breakfast area. Addy demonstrated a commendable level of attentiveness, engaging guests at their tables and ensuring needs were met promptly. Whether you required additional items or sought information, Addy was the person to turn to. This kind of service truly exemplified the standard one would anticipate from a hotel of this caliber. I did have an enjoyable stay, but for this hotel to remain a five star there is room for improvement.

I have stayed at this hotel for many times & will always come back. • The staff at this hotel were so friendly and helpful. They made my stay so comfortable. The rooms were spacious, clean and well-maintained. The location was perfect - close to the city centre, airport & you will enjoy the best sunset ever at Tanjung Are beach! The staff would also give you a free transfer to the airport for your early morning flights, fantastic you guys! You could find a lot of hawker stores at the beach area so dinner is easily sorted. “The breakfast was always great, simple but nice.
Seapark Condotel Hotel

A one-star hotel shines brightly because of the boss's super five-star service. Just listen to the boss for hotels, supermarkets, tools for catching the sea, and travel guides. It's about a quarter of an hour's walk from the beach, and there are restaurants and supermarkets along the way. The three single beds met our rest needs, which was great! The Pacific Sutera Hotel

Kota Kinabalu City Center
My recent stay at The Pacific Sutera Hotel was nothing short of exceptional. Despite only spending 2 days and 1 night at the hotel, the level of service I experienced was truly top-notch. From the moment we stepped into the lobby until our departure, every aspect of our stay exceeded expectations. The hotel's attention to detail was evident in every corner, from the cleanliness of the facilities to the overall ambiance, which contributed to a memorable and enjoyable experience. However, what truly set this stay apart was the outstanding service provided by the hotel staff. I must make a special mention of one staff member whose name unfortunately escapes me. She mentioned that she has been a part of the hotel's team for the past 20 years, and her dedication to her work was palpable in every interaction we had with her. Her genuine friendliness, warmth, and professionalism enhanced our stay and left a lasting impression. I believe it would be wonderful if the hotel could consider acknowledging her dedication and exceptional service with a bonus or some form of recognition. Her commitment to ensuring the comfort and satisfaction of guests like myself deserves commendation, and such gestures would not only serve as a token of appreciation but also motivate her and other staff members to continue delivering outstanding service. Overall, my experience at The Pacific Sutera Hotel was nothing short of fantastic. I look forward to returning in the future and experiencing the hotel's hospitality once again. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a memorable and delightful stay in Kota Kinabalu. Warm regards, Lydia
