BBQ Hub Ella

The pro’s: - Staff all very friendly and kind, helpful with carrying luggage up the stairs, nice welcome drink - Location is very convenient for Ella town, five min walk to main street and lots of shops on the way for waters/ supplies etc - Good strong WiFi and A/C in the room - Quiet at night allowing for two good nights’ sleep - Hot water in the shower (although sometimes a little too hot!!) - Breakfast was plentiful, good omelettes, french toast, waffles, fruit, juice, tea/ coffee. Quality of coffee better than other hotels in Sri Lanka but still not barista level! - They very kindly gave us a free transfer to the train station in their (large) tuktuk which fit all of our luggage! The con’s: - The room we stayed in (I think standard double) was very small. We had some larger pieces of luggage and had to rearrange the room to make space to have them both open. Very little floor space, only have a bedside locker on one side - The bedding was stained and torn in places, making it feel shabby and old. The towels were of similar quality - thin and very old, faded white/ grey colour, not very inviting to use - The bathroom had very limited surface space/ hooks to place toiletries or bags. Even to hang towels there was one bar which just about fits one bath towel but it’s almost hanging above the toilet. Toilet roll holder fitting very loose and fell off repeatedly when using it. - The main spotlight in the entrance way to the room was not working when we arrived and the room is already quite dark so we asked them to fix it. The staff member seemed a little confused as to why we needed this fixed when the other lights were working, but it was the only light for the wardrobe/ mirror/ where had laid our luggage out. In fairness, they fixed it right away when we asked them to. - At night there was no-one at the desk when we wanted to ask questions about the breakfast time (as we hadn’t been told during check-in and it wasn’t written down anywhere). The place felt like a ghost town and there was not a hint of any security. Sri Lanka is pretty safe but I still think it would be nice to have someone on the desk just to keep an eye on things and also to help guests if they need anything

Was sceptical to having dinner here as the place was completely empty when passing by. But we ordered BBQ chicken, it came with a delicious sauce, the chicken was really well cookes and fries crispy as ever! Also place was so quiet, away from the roads and all noise. Highly recommend having a night there, also the restaurant feels really luxurious with very well trained waiters and prices are really low comparing to the food that you are getting. Thanks alot

Don’t get me wrong, you can live here and the estate has a stylish touch. Shower was really warm. But everything else was off: Not enough space in bathroom to put things on, so our bathroom stuff went atop toilet, room in general too small. All power sockets had connection issues, really ALL of them. Room was very moist. Staff not too friendly (but was also off season) Breakfast was below average

Feels like home. One of the best boutique hotels in the Ella town for a budget. Friendly staff, cozy rooms and excellent food in the hills. Perfect for a family or couple who is looking for a bit of luxury out of the ordinary in the town. Definitely recommending a stay here if you are likely to visit Ella

The BBQ Hub is a modern boutique hotel just a short walk away from the lively main street, yet is secluded and quiet. The room was clean and comfortable, staff friendly and helpful and breakfast was excellent.

Visited this Place with a family of 4 for one night during a tour. Great place, great Room, great Staff and located 5 minutes away from the Party Sport, so easy to go there but still quiet. Staff is super friendly, Breakfast is great. Prices are very very reasonable. Strongly recommended!

Lovely location just one street off the main road running through Ella. Hotel and rooms were amazing with a really cute balcony looking onto the woods/jungle. Staff were super friendly and honestly couldn’t do enough! Spoke great English and offered some really good advice on things to do and places to visit. 100% recommend this place, whether you’re a young couple like us or a family of 4. Stayed in August 2019

Very nice clean rooms, if a little on the small side, and the service was always helpful and personal. The hotel is very central just a 5 minute walk to the main road through Ella where most restaurants and bars are situated. Nevertheless the hotel itself still feels quite secluded. Breakfast was very good, especially for the price paid. Value for money in general for our stay was excellent.

Modern design hotel in city centre. Walking distance from train station and city centre. Clean bathroom. Comfortable room. Wifi fast enough, but only one device can be connected. Breakfast included in price. All attractions at tuk tuk distance, but this is true for all hotels here.
