Heart of Ella

We booked directly with the hotel after scoping out rooms online. On the day of our arrival we were contacted by the hotel stating they didn’t have that room available but had something else for us. And provided pictures when requested. We could tell it wasn’t the ones pictured online but we were assured we would be moved to the renovated rooms after the first night. But man, this first night was really uncomfortable. Old dusty room full of spiders and webs. Sheets with holes. Webs on the bed frames. Door lock was a pad lock. It was strange for sure. Made my skin crawl. :( On the second night they moved us to the renovated part of the hotel. Definitely an upgrade and had that been the only part of the hotel we’d seen. We’d have been happy. Although you can tell, it’s starting to not be up kept. As spider webs are forming in areas of the room. With good upkeep and care this hotel has so much potential. Beautiful view, and attentive breakfast. Monkeys near by. Good proximity to town - away from the noise but a short inexpensive Tuk Tuk into town. I’d say, ensure you’re booking the renovated side and it would be a good value for your money. And totally ok. A steal even. The gentleman at the front desk cared about making sure he could help in whatever way he could. He was up late, and up early helping with breakfast.

We can only think there must be two levels of accommodation at Heart of Ella as the photos posted on Booking .Com bear little resemblance to our experience! Our room was dusty and dirty, very outdated with peeling ceiling tiles, filthy mosquito net, stained towels and a bathroom that we only used out of necessity. We only stayed for one of the two nights we had booked. It is in a stunning location with fabulous views but that’s the only good thing we can say about the place.

Ella Mountain City in Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 Very beautiful Village. BUT All in all I felt very vulnerable so we only stayed 1 night and not the 3 we booked, it was worth losing money just to get out of there. Around US $ 80 per Night it's way too much for this place. All the way from North America we came to enjoy the Ella Mountains, but the GUEST House / Hotel worst experience ever at a hotel (if you can even call this a hotel). This place should be shut down by the Australian owners.

We booked two double rooms in the 3rd floor charging US dollar 65 per night per room. ( SriLankan Rs. 20,000 each). Room only basis. Room 111 n 112. Honestly say it was a rip off as the facility of Rooms and service is horrible. First no vehicle can't reach to the hotel entrance and you have to walk on very steep hill walking path to hotel. Old people and heart patient should consider before they make reservations with this hotel. Cleanness of room very low. Due to the construction full of dust in staircase hand railing and balcony even inside rooms. TV with Dialog box available in the room but not working due to non payment of service provider. No hot water in Showers. Tea/coffee packet kept in the room very limited for one time use. Celing fan in the room not fixed properly as it make huge noise. This hotel is run by one care taker family who doesn't have any knowledge of hotel facilities. When we complain about the lack of facilities the answer he gave we don't take SriLankans to this hotel because of this nature of complain and we take only Europeans as they stay without any complain. Owner of this hotel should take note his statement.

High up with nice view. Need tuk tuk to get to town. Had 2 rooms and both was not to clean and bedsheets looked used and dirty. Lots of noise due renovations and barking dogs (true the night). Renovation is taking the view of the hotel and should be mention at *********** due the hotel is effected in different ways building an elevator over some time

We had a great stay at the Heart of Ella hotel! The rooms were very comfortable and the views were incredible. The hotel is set away from the town making it very peaceful but still within easy reach of the town. Breakfast was tasty and the owner was very friendly and helpful with any requests we had. We would definitely come back again!
