Hotel Morgensonne

This review comes late as we stayed here in September. We stayed 2 nights, not in succession, and the hotel worked with us to accommodate us at different parts of our travels. We were very happy with the hotel, our room and the lovely breakfast provided. A very sweet dog was a plus for these pet lovers. We would highly recommend this hotel. Thank you Dorothy

Over the past decade, I have tried many hotels in Badenweiler, the little village located in the foothills of the Black Forrest, so close to Anton Tchekhov’s heart. With a number of years of hindsight to form an opinion, I am ranking the Morgensonne most definitely on the top of my list of hotels. In stark contrast with thriving impersonal, sanitized hotel chains, this establishment embodies a privileged relationship between the hotel management and its clientele. The Morgensonne is run by the very professional Dorothea Diringer, salt of the earth, who adds a personal touch to her management, creating a cozy, family-like environment for her customers. The rooms are both clean and comfortable, and embellished by fresh flowers. As a welcome gift, fresh fruits, a little chocolate and a bottle of sparkling water are offered to the customers. The hotel is located in a very quiet area of Badenweiler, uphill and overlooking the village, within a ten-minute walk to the spa. Plush bathrobes are provided in the room and can be used in the spa. One of the highlights of the hotel is its breakfast, rich and hearty, made of high-quality ingredients, from fresh breads, cold cuts, cheeses, lax, eggs, Bircher muesli, fresh fruits, yogurt, cereals, as well as various seeds, nuts and dried fruits. The cozy breakfast room and its adjoining terrace contribute to making breakfast an enjoyable experience. All in all, with its reasonably priced rooms, and warm atmosphere, the Morgensonne constitutes a safe choice—and perhaps the best possible one—in Badenweiler.

Hotel Morgensonne is located in a (very) quiet (even for Badenweiler) and residential area of the thermal town, just off the main pedestrian road and yet within a mere 5 minutes walk from the baths, the principal square and the parks. In short, its setting is ideal, central while at the edge of the forest and, also, with ample, free, on-site parking. The room I was given was very spacious, comfortably set up (ideal for a sabbatical) and impeccably - impeccably - clean. (The whole hotel is, by the way!) A welcome note, fresh flowers, local fruits, a bottle of mineral water, a bathrobe, slippers, quality sheets, ... it was clear that the owner, albeit discreet, is not only very kind and extremely welcoming, also sets the highest standards for her hotel and the well-being of the guests. Morgensonne is a unique place and it is extremely well-managed, with the greatest care. Having stayed, over the past couple of years, at several other places in the Badenweiler-area, Morgensonne stands out, by far, in terms of hospitality, the range of quality-amenities, the comfort and quality of the infrastructure.
