The views are wasted in this place. I stayed in this "hotel' for 5 or 6 nights. It's not an actual hotel. They should call it a guest house or hostel, but it is not a hotel. It was a highly disappointing experience. The rooms are very basic and have a bad smell. They are only cleaned every fourth day; if you want more frequent cleaning, you must pay extra. The hotel only has staff on-site from 12 PM to 8 PM, and no staff or services are available on Wednesdays. We were also told that the lagoon was closed, but other hotels were fully staffed and provided food and drink services. The worst part of our stay was when the electricity went out in the middle of the night, and no one was there to help. We called and messaged all the available numbers but got no response. It was incredibly frustrating, especially since all the other surrounding hotels had power, and no staff arrived at El Buho until noon. Once we told them about our experience of sleeping with no AC and with the doors to the hotel rooms unlocked, there was no apology. The staff claimed that electricity was out all over the island, and that was a lie because we could see that the other hotels had electricity. The final distressing event was when I went to shower, and there was no water. Luckily, this happened before 8 PM because we would have been out of luck until morning. Overall, I would not recommend staying at El Buho Hotel—the lack of care for the guests, along with cleanliness, limited staff availability, and poor customer service, made for an unpleasant experience. There are much better options available in Bacalar. DO NOT STAY HERE.

The place is comfortable and clean, friendly people but the restaurant and drinks close at 8 and they don't let you order in the bungalows. From there the stay becomes a joke. We ran out of water to bathe and had to go down to the general showers. Nice but for the price it is not what is expected.

We had a really good time staying 3 days at El Búho Lagoon. The people working here are super nice and the welcoming was great. They answered us when we had questions, they care. The location is good and we could visit bacalar and the surroundings from here. We also got to do a 1h kayak trip on the lagoon, really beautiful. We recommend! Dimitri and Laurine

Truly I enjoyed my day here on a day pass. From the wonderful friendly staff, to the delicious food snd perfect location to enjoy the lagoon made for an absolutely wonderful experience. I would definitely come back again and if so, would love to check out the hotel for accommodations.

We got the Amarillo room for sea view. All the rooms with colour names have a sea view Amarillo and azul are on the ground floor so have little privacy unless the curtain is closed. The facilities are tired to put it polightly- everything was torn or stained. Decor in our room was “live laugh love” meets knock off lisa Frank Our headboard was broken, the bed was two beds pushed together and not level so every time you turned or moved the bed rocked and made a loud ish sound on the floor tiles all night. Only lighting was one stark white light in ceiling which felt “institutional” No where to unpack clothes to or hang anything Bathroom faucet was encrusted with years of not cleaning. Entry has a gadget that works with keycard and electricity only works with card in room plus to exit you have to wave your hand- we felt one power failure from being trapped so we never really completely closed the door. The stairs in and out of the water to the doc thing were covered in algae and missing handrails and unlike other places in Bacalar no rope wrapping the steps to provide a safer entry or exit. You are right on the water but so is almost everywhere The centre of town is not really close enough to walk unless you want a 30-45 min walk- at which point again I suggest goi g to somewhere else and just try a day pass if you like the look of their sun beds because that’s really all the lagoon club gives you I tripped on the restaurant Dec several times and every table wobbles so much the coffee would spill everywhere. There are things in the viscinity to try but it’s all for a big extra fee the kayaks did have a backrest which was nice but for 500mx a day I want a real life (not some torn foam with a strap) vest and a closed kayak. On entry they took my drivers licence to keep in case I - I don’t know wrecked the place more? Maybe stole a towel. It was cheap ethos for such an expensive place. On booking they ignored all my emails and messages through booking- but managed to send me plenty. Of everywhere I was on my birthday they were the only people who ignored it. I wasn’t asking for anything but like they couldn’t even bother to remember and say Feliz coumpleanos If you like milk toast techno and staff covered in perfume and sunbathing just pay the day fee and stay somewhere else. The playground is probably good for families I heard babies crying fro The other Room… which is my least fav. The breakfast was some novelty cereal, granola, bread slices and coffee, no tea, no juice I might have rated them a three if they’d had the deceny to remember my birthday when literally everywhere else said happy birthday to me. I know, sounds petty but just gave an air of insincere customer service All in all I choked when booking I’m sure some people will like the environment but I don’t think it’s worth the price tag to stay here at all. If you do book- use booking and pay extra for the free cancellation- there are other places in Bacalar fo

Really nice place to enjoy the Lagoon. Reasonally prices. We paid 300 pesos with 250 pesos to spend on drinks and food (150 pesos for a Margaritha, 80 pesos for Bruscetta as a snack). Nice and fast service. Instagrammable fotospots. Nice area with music to chill and enjoy the day!

We were looking for a beach club to have some chill time with friends after a boat experience on the stunning lagoon. We were recommended this beach club by a hotel up the road as we were walking past. Shamir was very attentive and really looked after the group with a smile. We stayed all afternoon, after some great food we chilled on the sun loungers and swings in the water, with a lovely area to swim in

Great view and delicious salads and sangria!! Really enjoyed our day here. Lively music and cute swing area. Would visit again, Bacalar is a lovely place to spend a couple of days. Worth waiting to see the sunset while continuing to enjoy the drinks.
