Hotel de Biencourt impresses with comfortable, quiet rooms, excellent value, and friendly staff. Its central location and delightful breakfast add to its appeal. However, some may find it basic.

This hotel was a delight from the moment we met the manager to the time we left the following morning. We were on a cycling tour with UTracks. Our bikes had a secure garage where they were stored. Our suitcases were already waiting in our rooms. The rooms were beautifully appointed as was the entire hotel. Breakfast was well catered for and the hotel location made it easy to find a restaurant close by for dinner. A very charming place that can be highly recommended.

The hotel is situated in the quiet heart of Azay just a few metres from the ancient chateau entrance. Access to vehicles is restricted, and payable parking is available about 100 metres from the hotel. The old town has a few simple restaurants, but it can be a challenge to find good quality diningoff-seasonn, notably on Sundays and Mondays. Staff were helpful and polite and communicated well with us in fluent English given our limited ability to speak and understand French. We were allocated a family room, and this gave us plenty of space for our luggage. Bedrooms are simply furnished and decorated. Tea and coffee making facilities were not available, and we were gently and politely reprimanded for bringing our own food and drink into the hotel. Our bed was comfortable and we found the bedding too warm. The ensuite facilities were good, and we particularly enjoyed the powerful shower. We did not purchase breakfast (€15), as we prefer a simple coffee and pastry, and this was readily available nearby. Hotel Biencourt offers simple accommodation at a reasonable rate. It provided a useful base to explore the many gorgeous chateaux on the vicinity; the pick of which was Vilandry

We had an excellent 2 night stay at the Biencourt. Our room, on the ground floor with its own outside seating in the courtyard of this old school building, was charming - very clean and comfortable. While the rooms do not have a mini-bar, the Hotel offers a shared fridge accessible at any time next to the breakfast room, which was a nice touch! The breakfast focusses on fresh local produce and was very good. We opted to park our car at the Chateau car park for the duration of the stay and this worked fine. The car park is only a couple of hundred meters from the hotel and works out at EUR 7 night when validated by the hotel. (It's much more expensive if you don't get it validated. Once validated, you can leave and return freely for the period you have opted to validate). Alternatively, the hotel also has its own limited garage parking at the same cost which is a little closer. Free street parking, albeit a little further away, is also potentially available. If needed, the hotel can supply a code for the electric street bollard (since the hotel is located on a largely pedestrianised street) allowing you to stop briefly outside to load and unload. Azay has a number of good restaurants but we suspect they can get busy at all but the quietest of times so worth booking. The hotel management couldn’t have been more helpful or responsive (And spoke very good English!) - we would definitely stay again.

We had a 3 day stay, a fabulous family run hotel in a pedestrian zone, very clean, very comfortable, excellent air conditioning, superb breakfast with lovely homemade jams and cakes by Thomas partner, Thomas is a fantastic host very attentive to all needs, nothing seems to be any trouble, he speaks excellent English so we didn’t have to wade through our very bad French, fabulous quiet village with plenty of restaurants to suit all needs, and the Chateau is 70 metres from the Hotel door, what more could you want

A lovely hotel right in the centre of the village adjacent to the famous Chateau. Our room was very quiet and comfortable with an excellent shower. Helpful and friendly staff. A very good quality breakfast which was plentiful. A lovely courtyard to sit in and relax. To access the hotel by car you will need a code to lower a street bollard. Call at the hotel on foot to obtain the code for the bollard ( it’s 30 metres away). Do this before visiting the chateau because the hotel can give you a ticket for the chateau car park where you can park overnight (it’s monitored) for a much reduced charge. Annoyingly we were unaware of all this and had to pay for the car park twice. The hotel website does not explain any of this. Perhaps telephone the hotel for guidance in advance. Believe me, this hotel is worth that little effort.

A beautifully presented Hotel in a wonderful little town. An old school converted into small but well furnished and finished rooms. Staff really helpful and friendly. They could perhaps make it clearer where to park and how to get to the hotel. It’s down a restricted road with an electronic bollard to stop access. We parked in the chateau car park and walked round to check in (not far). They have limited secure parking nearby (€7 a day) so either book it with your room booking or they can update your chateau car park ticket for the length of your stay at the same cost, €7, which allows you to use the ticket to get in and out of the car park, you pay at the end of your stay.

The proprietor went out of his way to make sure we were able to check in late to the hotel, which is situated just minutes away from the chateau, and he also called for reservations for us at Cote Court, a wonderful restaurant several hundred feet down the quaint street. Our rooms were large and comfortable, and the courtyard was a pleasant spot to relax.
