The Shoulder at Hardstoft

The Shoulder kindly allowed us to have the funeral wake gathering at this easily accessible pub/resturaunt. We opted for the gold buffet menu and we were allowed us to substitute prefered items. The manager provided full allergen information in advance of the day. On the day the staff were courteous and the service was streamlined, efficient and respectful. The food was outstanding! It was tasty, generous and professionally presented. Everything was 'a cut above average' and freshly made. The ginger pudding and their minty brownies were outstanding. The manager and all her staff went out of their way to help us plan and were flexible in all their dealings with us. I cannot more highly recommend the Shoulder for an event like this one.

Came for a New Year’s Eve disco on 31/12/24. The event was promoted as a buffet, DJ and disco. The “DJ” was a bar staff worker that was playing songs from YouTube. The whole evening was like a wake…no energy, no one dancing & an all around fail. There’s probably more atmosphere in a morgue. The “DJ” kept skipping songs halfway through & playing songs from YouTube (which I may add, is illegal if you’re making money from it). Thank god it was a free event as I would’ve been fuming if I had to pay for it. Avoid for any event!

Xmas day Dinner!!! Sorry really disappointed expected more!!!! Arrived half hour early to enjoy a drink and was led to our table immediate! Within sitting down in minutes our starter arrived soup which was cold!! We still not had chance to order drinks and was told someone would be with us soon as the locals who had just arrived was served and was busy to do both???. Drinks came and then a sorbet was put on table within minutes of the starter dishes being removed! Same again main meal out as soon as sorbet dishes removed all seemed hurried!! Dessert was chocolate cheesecake/shortbread not sure which ?? very dry so asked for some cream and was told had none ??? so we left it!!! Next came the cheese and biscuits in a box in with a note you may take home if you wish - not even on a cheese board - very unprofessional for a restaurant as we had not asked for it as take out!! For £75 a head so very disappointed in and out within an hour - never really had this type of service here before and felt like it all was so rushed!! We was so looking forward to our first Xmas lunch out never again would not recommend Xmas dinner here as the experience was very poor for the cost!! Other than that the staff are very friendly and would like to think my review would help in future years to make customers Xmas dinner dining experience a better one!!!!!!

Great fun at the George Michael tribute evening! Good value, great act and brilliant fun. Will return for food at some point. The weekly quiz night with free entry and buffet also look like a good reason to visit. Will keep an eye out for more acts in future!

Me and my partner have stayed in many pubs and hotels in the midlands, but this one deserves a review, it was absolutely outstanding, from the warmest reception from the owners to the cleanliness off the whole establishment, and the food, my god I have never had a steak cooked to this perfection. And for the price... Unbelievably reasonable. I went at the beginning of October for one night, we didn't eat that night we was just drinking and fancied stopping somewhere, while we was there we was amazed at how nice the place was and how great the food looked that was being brought out , so we went back at end of October for two nights, we had food all three days and will be going back to work our way through the menu... We can't wait to go again .
