We are so happy we booked this hotel for heading to Mt Aso. First, the staff greeting was super warm and welcoming. The hotel is brand new and while our room was a great and functional design, the bed was the most comfortable western-style bed we’ve had in all of Japan! It’s location is super convenient if you arrive by train (it’s across the street) and while they don’t really have dining facilities, there is a fun outdoor market right outside where we grabbed dinner: meat skewers, mustard greens biscuit and a delicious craft beer (there is also ramen and a few other food choices).

I recently had the pleasure of staying at ASO Base Backpackers during my visit to Aso, Japan, and I must say it was an unforgettable experience. This charming hostel exceeded my expectations in every aspect and left me with beautiful memories of my time in Aso. First and foremost, the location of ASO Base Backpackers is simply breathtaking. Situated at 1498 Kurokawa, it offers a serene and picturesque setting surrounded by the natural beauty of Aso. The hostel is nestled amidst lush greenery and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The accommodation at ASO Base Backpackers was cozy, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed. The dormitory-style rooms were clean and well-maintained, with comfortable beds and ample storage space. It was a very disappointing stay. After checking in, when I was about to head to my room, a female staff member ran up to me and guided me, saying, ”This is it.” Please get on the elevator,” and ran away. I get on the elevator on that street, but I can't find a room even if I look for it. When I went back to the first floor, I found the same female staff member again. And when it's time for dinner, I try to leave the room, but the door won't lock. Even though the door should be auto-locked, it opens when you push the door. Maybe it's badly built, the key doesn't go in and it doesn't lock. When I called the front desk, a female staff member came immediately, but she said, ”Please wait a moment,” and left without a word for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes had passed, a male staff member finally arrived, but he said, ”We can't move rooms because they are fully booked. We will call a contractor to fix it.” Do I have to?” When I asked, he said, ”Since there was a canceled room, please go to that room.” For dinner, I had the ”Akaushi course”, but there were also extremely few dishes. Red beef is a small amount of beef about 2 x 5 cm thick and 5 mm thick, about 3 small bowls, and a little horse sashimi and sashimi. This is the first time I've had such a small amount of food at a hot spring inn. It may be good for small eaters. Also, the foreign staff brought the chawanmushi, but for some reason it was placed on the table instead of on a plate with a spoon for chawanmushi. As for the private bath, when I went early in the morning, there was a used toothbrush and floss on the edge of the bath. It's gross even if it's not in the corona misfortune. At checkout, not a single word of apology was given. Is it because I changed rooms that the matter has already been resolved? Is it just a makeshift lie that I will tell the staff at the morning meeting? This is my first time staying at this inn. It's unthinkable that a hotel can't be locked, and it's unthinkable to leave it alone for half an hour. It was fully equipped with safety box, too, but is problem before that. ”All users, please be careful.”

One poo and two food, the room is quite large and clean, and the dining is good. The same high level of service as all spa hotels in Japan. The soup that comes with the hotel is very good, and the whole of Heikawa is iron-containing. The outdoor style is quite large, and the private soup for the guests is also very good. You can buy a hand at the front desk, and you can still choose 3 of the 25 hot springs in Kurokawa. The location is the town center, a few steps away is the popular puff shop.

It's a bit far from the station. It is recommended to choose the one with dinner when booking. The Wagyu buffet is great. The quilt is very thick. The soup has family private soup. Make an appointment to line up. In the morning, a car will be sent to Aso Station.

The front desk is an old-fashioned inn style. The slippers that enter the eye as soon as they enter the room are dirt and heel cut off, and even if the paper of ”disinfected” is riding, it is hesitant to wear today. The hand towel for hot springs is not dedicated to oneself who entered the vinyl, but washed and used. The room and the shared space are not deteriorated, but I felt that I was working hard in the double punch of the earthquake and corona. The bath is divided into ”dondoyu” which can take a day trip bath and a hot spring dedicated to guests. ”Dondoyu” is located at the hotel front desk, looking at the vast garden, and walking 2,3 minutes through the crossing corridor where there is a rabbit hut on the way. There was an open-air bath that had been boldly made in the garden, and there was an open-air bath that had been pulled out of hot water due to corona, but the large open-air bath was put in a source. In the morning, ”dondoyu” was closed, so I went to the guest only, but I was able to enjoy it at a hot spring with a wide 々 with an open-air bath. As for the meal, breakfast was normal, but dinner was great. Especially the red beef pottery plate was amazing, and such a delicious steak was not eaten easily. The overall evaluation is 3.5 points. If you close your eyes to oldness, it is a hotel that can be satisfied enough.

The staff will move you to the parking lot a little far away. The lobby, lounge, and front desk are on the ３ floor, and the wooden building makes you feel warm. The room I stayed in was on the ２ floor of the new building. １０ It feels wide even in a Japanese-style room with tatami mats. It is also nice to have a four-tatami service room with a digging. The water of the river flows nearby, and the sound of the water clears your heart. The large communal bath is on the １ floor, the indoor bath and the open-air bath, both of which are equipped with natural stones. The quality of the spring is colorless and odorless salt spring. There is no feeling of slimy, but the body warms up to the core. Dinner • Breakfast is full of content. Dinner is a course meal. Every dish is really delicious because it makes full use of the characteristics of seasonal ingredients. The salt-grilled salmon is salty and very fat and delicious. There was also a cherry blossom for breakfast, but it is tempura, so it seems that the taste is different from the cherry blossom for dinner and eating another river fish. Even if you use the same ingredients, you can realize that if the cooking method changes, the taste changes like magic. The rice was also very delicious. The grains of rice 々 stand and shine is evidence of delicious rice.

The Western-style room had a good view with a golf course and a plateau overlooking the magnificent Mt. Aso Outer Ring. The room was comfortable with a sofa, chairs and tables and two semi-double beds. Actually, it was a large bath in a golf resort, so I didn't expect much bath. However, the hot springs were hanging from the source, and both the indoor bath and the four open-air baths (including the barrel bath 2) were all hanging from the source, and it was a good hot spring with a little brown hot spring. I checked out at 11 o'clock, but I was a little disappointed that the bath was until 9 am. The meal was a Japanese and Western appetizer, a cooking and a hot bowl at the restaurant. In the second half, the dinner was good with soft Kumamoto beef and seafood grilled on a ceramic plate, high-vegetable rice and miso soup, and delicious desserts. Also, the dining staff was kind and polite. Breakfast was a volume breakfast, probably because of a golf resort. After checking out, if you are trying to take a picture with Kumamon in the lobby, the staff will carry a large Kumamon to the outside by cart, saying that you should take a picture in a good place with a good view of Mt. Outer Ring in Aso. It was done. Thanks to you, I was able to take a nice family photo with Aso no Yama 々 and Kumamon. I was very happy with the kind consideration.

The Yamanami highway runs to Beppu area, and it turns to the left side of Kurokawa Onsen from the intersection with national route 442 where the rest house of Seno is located. Since several years ago, national route 442 has changed to a new road, and it is easy to run with a margin of road width. This inn is ”Ryokan Wakaba”. There seems to be a lot of guests in GoTo travel, and there is no space to stop in the free parking lot, so the key is left at the front desk. The night meal is room meal. When you sit in the seat and look at the drink menu, the drink using ginger seems to be delicious. When Nakai comes, you order ”ginger sweet sake” which is said to be the least alcohol. The dishes are also carried in good procedure. The dishes unique to Kumamoto are delicious, such as frost horse stab and red chicken after Kumamoto miso beef. However, Yakiniku in the room smells on the clothes. Breakfast is usually served in the hall on the first floor, but it is a lunch box in each room to prevent corona virus infection. Rice is cooked with a cherry blossom using shichijo rice, and the side dish is a delicious morning rice called 'rokuhon of kokokugo' and 'miso soup of shichijo rice, tsukitake and Minami Seki fried rice. The inn was friendly and the response was good and the hot spring was pleasant.

You can experience traditional Japanese relaxing time at this accommodation. They have a lot of separated Onsen rooms, and some could be locked by yourself as a private bath room. I recommend you to try some Onsen. You can also eat local dinner with a lot of dishes. The bed room is cover with Tatami which is a Japanese straw mat, and the Tatami is comfortable with your barefoot. Also no bed, you have to sleep on Japanese rug Futon. The facility is enough clean as well. I would like to stay again the accommodation when I will re-visit Kurokawa Onsen village. 静かな温泉街のステキな旅館。1泊だけでしたが、とても満足度の高い時間を過ごす事が出来ました。 この旅館にはたくさんの露天と内湯温泉があり、そのうち宿泊者用の家族風呂が10近くあります。部屋数も多くない旅館なので、ほぼ必ず楽しむ事が出来るでしょう。湯温もちょうどよく、家族風呂をはしごして楽しみました。 食事も素晴らしく、とても美味しい熊本料理を楽しめました。料理の質はかなり高かったと感じました。 仲居さんは研修生と書かれた、若い男性でしたが、対応も説明もしっかりこなしてくれて満足です。 また黒川温泉に来る機会があれば、お世話になりたい、そう思える時間でした。
