The price/performance ratio is good in the local area, you can call the hotel directly to make a reservation. It is within walking distance of the city's public services.

I stayed at the Crystal Hotel for four nights. At check-in I received a friendly welcome and was in my room within minutes. All receptionists and waitresses spoke English well enough, and even the maids spoke basic English. Reception changes US dollars into nakfa at the same 1:15 rate as Himbol, which is very convenient. I got a room on the 3rd floor. Note that there are no lifts at the hotel so at a minimum, you will need to walk up one flight of stairs if you get a room on the first floor. My room, 303, was a largeish corner room, most rooms on the same floor were noticeably smaller. It was clean but a bit worn out, perhaps 2.5 stars according to Western standards. The double bed was comfortable and the sheets were changed daily. The room came with a sofa and a coffee table as well as a dining table with two chairs, a desk and ample closet space. No a/c, but it's not needed as nights are cool in Asmara. No safe, no water bottles. The white curtains did nothing to keep light out, so bring eyeshades (and earplugs). Electricity was reliable during my stay, and the hotel has a generator should power cuts occur. There were multi-sockets (Europe/US/UK) by the bed and desk. The bathroom came with a shower, and when you wanted to use it, you needed to call reception who turned on the pump. Without it, water pressure in the handheld shower was almost non-existent, with the pump on it was still poor. There was a boiler in the bathroom, so as long as there is electricity, there will be hot water. The only amenity available was bars of soap. No shampoo etc. There is free, unlimited wifi. You get a username and password which is valid for 24 hours, for one device at a time but you can change between devices. On my phone, it never connected and thus I was unable to use eg. WhatsApp. On my laptop, it connected and some webpages loaded slowly but surely whereas others never worked. This did not change from day to day, it was always the same sites that I could and couldn't access. Discord, Google and Wikipedia all worked. Be careful when typing the username and password, as the system will lock your device out if you make typos too many times and reception will not be able to help you, you just need to wait for several hours until you get unlocked again. Brekafast was served in the ground floor dining room from 7 to 10. It was not a buffet – a meagre selection was brought to your table: two large pieces of toast or soft bread, butter and jam, a small glass of freshly squeezed fruit juice of your choice, a piece of fruit such as a small banana or a slice of papaya, a hot drink and eggs of your choice. I was not impressed by the omelette. The hotel is located on a side street two blocks from Harnet Avenue, a 15-minute drive from the airport. I found the location very good for sightseeing as you can easily walk to most sights. Try Ghibabo Restaurant two blocks away, they serve excellent local cuisine at affordable prices. I booked via local travel agency Oa

I think this is probably the best hotel in the city, or at least the best hotel with a good central location. Everything that I say about the hotel has to be taken with great of salt in that it's in a country where not all of the comforts and amenities that you would have elsewhere or available. I thought the Crystal Hotel was a good option. I had an enormous room that was quite comfortable. The shower was good with hot water, the bed was fine, and it was quiet. Doing it again, I probably would've splurged to get one of the rooms that has a balcony looking out on the street. That would have been nice. The staff were extremely helpful. They help me with making local phone calls and we're just generally very friendly and pleasant. The room came with free breakfast, which was excellent and had lots of options including more traditional and vegetarian breakfasts. Allegedly, there is Wi-Fi at the hotel, however I was never able to get it to work. It would say that I was connected but after about 30 minutes of trying to access a web page it would just fail. But one knows this going to Eritrea, that the Internet is going to be an issue so this did not come as a surprise. I really loved the street that it was on and the location. It was a short walk to countless restaurants and cafes. The area around it was quiet and pretty, and as with the rest of the city it felt completely safe. If I were going back to Asmara I would definitely stay here again.

The room is sufficiently spacious and very comfortable, and the hotel is very well located, close to Liberation Street, the main avenue of the capital. However, it is necessary to mention that the hotel does not offer any internet connection for tourists. All hotspots provided by the reception were inaccessible during my stay in Asmara.

I stayed at this hotel (Crystal Hotel) from September 21 to 26, 2022. It is my very best experience I had at this Hotel. From day one the customer service at the reception desk was very worm respectful greetings. My room was very clean and comfortable. Not only my room the whole building is very clean and spotless. My staying in Crystal Hotel was short and relaxing time. The restaurant in the hotel was great. Verity types of food, hot and cold drinks was amazing. Staff were very helpful for everything I ask for. They were very skillful and experienced at their work. I feel very blessed staying at Crystal Hotel and I am very proud to have this kind of experience at this hotel in my own country - Eritrea, Asmara. Thanks Crystal Hotel. A. Hagos

Being a visitor for the first time to Asmara, the hotel service is extremely bad. I booked a room for about a week. It says on the website the hotel has a free breakfast and a Wi-Fi, to my surprise, non of these services existed. Customer service was really bad. We weren’t treated with respect. This was the worst experience we have seen in our life. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL.
