Property Description
Enjoy a beautiful view of Lake Erie! This 1930s cottage sits atop a bank overlooking the Lake and provides an extraordinary respite from the hustle and bustle of city life. Relax listening to the waves or watching lake freighters pass in the night. The area is full of charm, fun and nature: two nearby harbors, beautiful parks and beaches, 19 covered bridges, golf, birding hot spots, scenic overlooks, historic octagon houses, 24 wineries and many restaurants - quirky casual to fine dining. We're new to VRBO, but don't worry, you won't be disappointed. The cottage and hosts have catered to hundreds of happy guests after a reopening in 2019. In the short time since then, many guests have returned two or three times and some six times. Nothing speaks louder than repeat business! For decades this cottage was booked solid with regulars who had standing reservations. As guests and the owner aged the property remained well-maintained, but was never marketed and use diminished. We're thrilled to be able to begin sharing this special place again. The electrical and plumbing have been completely updated; the heating and cooling are new. By design, some original furnishings remain to maintain the original charm and character. In a few cases, there may be a bit too much character as we painstakingly work to restore some pieces to their former glory. The process will take time, but you'll find the space peaceful and comfortable with an unbeatable view. What Canary Cottage may lack in polish, it makes up for in charm. Our guests find it a wonderful antidote to the sterile and predictable lodging that’s too common – and they tell us the hosts are great too! :) For those who need modern amenities, we offer those too. We provide 47 live TV channels, streaming options via Roku or bring your own streaming device, e.g. Chromecast, Firestick or AppleTV to connect to an HDMI port A powerful router, discretely located in the living room, is connected to 200 Mbps internet service, making it perfect for those that have to catch up on work or just for uploading your photos of the lake!About pets:No pets allowed.About checkOut:Check out before 11:00 AM.About children:Children allowed: ages 0-17.Young children need to be supervised outside..About checkIn:Check in after 4:00 PM.About smoking:Smoking is not permitted.About minBookingAge:Minimum age to rent: 25.About events:No events allowed.

Our host was wonderful. We were met by one of the cohosts and given a warm welcome. Everything was clean and neat and exactly as described by the VRBO website. Excellent communication from the host who had previously answered all of our questions. Canary Cottage is beautiful and its view of Lake Erie is breathtaking.

The host was super helpful and the view was lovely. The cottage was definitely showing it's age though. Looks like work is being done, but still needs some work

Cute cottage, nice accommodations, great view, would have enjoyed the back enclosed porch if it had been cooler. Flooring seemed soft in a few places.Enjoyed meeting host’s elderly father.

We spent a long weekend at the cottage on our first trip to Lake Erie with an 8 year-old and 7 month-old in tow. This cottage was in a quiet location yet only a minute away from a great park and beach area with free parking. I loved the charm of the old cottage and spent a lot of time taking in the view of the lake from the screened in porch. It was clean and the host was great with communicating with us. We would definitely stay here again. It provided for a relaxing trip for us.

Good but not great, cute but not charming I have sent a very long email to the owner, Rick, about all the problems we had at Canary Cottage. There were things we loved about the place and things that he thinks are “lack of polish,” “charm,” and keeping original character, but in reality are simply run down and needing repaired/replaced. The location and view of Lake Erie is amazing but there is no direct access to the water and no barrier to keep anyone from falling down the steep bank. This could be dangerous for children. There is no dishwasher, no central AC (one large wall unit,) no awnings/gutters/downspouts, no driveway or sidewalk to the front door (because of all the rain the front yard was a swamp,) limited workspace, and too few utensils. The microwave blows out a breaker every time it is turned on – the breaker box is behind the flower picture. The bathtub is so bad that I didn’t even want to stand in it, and clean towels are left out in the open near cooking odors. The hot water tank was not turned on, and the kerosene heater is a fire hazard that should be removed as the electric heater does a great job of heating the porch. We did not see eagles, but we did watch bulk carrier ships pass by. Go see the covered bridges – they are fascinating and each is unique in style. Go to the beautiful public park and beach a mile north and walk the brand new boardwalk, continue to the observation deck. You will have to drive to Ashtabula or Erie to eat out as we only found a few pizza places, McD, and DQ in town.

Great property We had a great time at the cabin. Right on the lake with beautiful views and everything we needed, and the property manager kept in touch making sure everything was good. Highly recommend and we hope to visit again.

Beautiful view! I look forward to this weekend all year and it never disappoints! The view is EVERYTHING! Clean, comfortable cottage lacks nothing. New friends made at the park’s beach and a visit with our known friend, Mr. Ross. I highly recommend this little cottage!

Lake View Very nice lake view, 4 seasons rear patio was fantastic for playing cards, or just watching all the wildlife. While there we saw a huge eagle.

Anniversary celebration One of the things we liked most about the property was the glassed in porch that overlooks Lake Erie. We spent a lot of time out there.
