This place was booked by us in April for a group outing during a weekend. The place was fabulous. There was a large kitchen, which was extremely well supplied (two ovens, dishwashers, more than enough plates etc.). All rooms were well connected to the main room, the roof terrace, terrace or playground. A decent bathroom, separate toilet and bed made the stay comfy. A nice details is that the venue is part of a historic pump house. The environment is very attractive also for a walk/bike trip.

I stayed in an apart guesthouse about 150m from the main hotel. So I had to walk 150 meters outside to reach the breakfast restaurant.
This is not very pleasant when it is raining... (fortunately it didn't rain at that moment)

Gereserveerd voor de lunch, bij binnenkomst mochten we een plekje uitzoeken, terras was dicht want het was bewolkt.. nou dan maar binnen. Het was niet mega druk maar het duurde best lang voordat er iemand kwam, na een 15min konden we drinken bestellen. Op dat moment werd er niet gevraagd of we ook iets wilde eten. Na het eerste drankje op te hebben zelf maar gekeken of we een menukaart konden vinden, deze bleek op tafel te staan. Niemand die kwam vragen of we nog iets wilde drinken of eten.. na 40min zelf maar opgestaan en gevraagd of we nog wat konden bestellen? Meneer kwam aan tafel en zei “zeg het maar” dus wij zeggen dat we graag een wrap met nog wat drinken wilde meneer “oo u wilt ook lunchen” euh ja we hebben gereserveerd en het is inmiddels bijna 13.30 uur dus wat denk je? Ik werd bozig dus zeg “netjes dat jullie het ook even vragen”.. geen antwoord. Eindelijk de wrap, meneer zegt “nou jullie zullen wel honger hebben nu hè naar al dat wachten, de wrap is groot dus dat komt goed uit” .. De wrap was idd groot maar droog en weinig smaak. Het is dat ik een leuke tafelgenoot had maar de vriendelijkheid van de bediening is ver te zoeken!

In het pittoreske Appeltern, waar de Maas zachtjes kabbelt langs de oevers, stond een restaurant dat ooit bekendstond om zijn degelijke, doch eenvoudige maaltijden voor bejaarden. Het heette “Moeke Mooren” en was geliefd om zijn aardappelpuree en draadjesvlees. Maar alles veranderde toen Bart van Eck de keuken binnenstapte. Bart, een gepassioneerde kok met een neus voor smaak en een hart voor innovatie, nam het roer over in een tijd waarin het restaurant op een kruispunt stond. Waar anderen comfort zagen in routine, zag Bart een kans voor transformatie. Hij begon klein: verse kruiden uit eigen tuin, lokale ingrediënten van boeren uit de regio, en een menukaart die de seizoenen volgde als een symfonie. Binnen een jaar heeft Bart Moeke Mooren omgetoverd tot een culinaire bestemming. Wat ooit een eetgelegenheid voor senioren was, werd nu bezocht door fijnproevers uit het hele land. Vandaag de dag staat Bart van Eck bekend als de man die met lef en liefde een vergeten keuken tot leven bracht. En Moeke Mooren? Dat is niet langer alleen een plek voor herinneringen, maar ook voor nieuwe smaken en verhalen.
