Quinta Do Sobral

I don’t usually right reviews but in this case, I felt the need to make the effort. We arrived in Portugal and made our way to the beautiful little village of Figueiro Dos Vinhos. Being the low season (March), we did not know what to expect from our accommodation for the 4 nights of our visit so it was a relief to find that we had chosen what must be the best accommodation option in the region. Quinta do Sobral is owned and operated by a German couple Bridget and Bernard who have built a true oasis of natural beauty on their estate. The room we occupied was spotlessly clean and extremely well appointed with beautiful views across the estate’s woodland, vineyard, and olive grove from our window or the communal terrace. While the property itself is extremely beautiful it is the warmth and the offer of true friendship from the hosts that sets this place apart. Having decided to move from Germany to Portugal, Bridget (who speaks fluent English German and Portuguese) and Bernard have spent the last 17 years living and working in the village, becoming part of the local community, and providing much needed quality development and income for the area. If asked they also have a wealth of local knowledge that they are happy to share with their guests. I could go on and on about how much we enjoyed our stay, but I think that if you are planning to visit this part of Portugal and want to stay somewhere truly unique then you should not miss the opportunity to stay at Quinta Do Sobral. I can assure you; you won’t be disappointed. This is not, and does not, pretend to be a 5-star Spa Hotel, so if you are looking for that type of experience you will need to head elsewhere, but if you are looking for a rural retreat with excellent service and the friendliest, most helpful hosts, I have ever had the pleasure of meeting then I cannot recommend it highly enough. It truly is a 5-star experience.

We visited Quinta do Sobral this month, we are already looking at when when we can visit again. It truly is a hidden gem. Bernard and Bridget who own the hotel are so lovely. They took us around to view their land. They have vineyards and make their own wine, we were lucky enough to try the wine, it’s lovely. My youngest son loved picking lemons from the trees. He also also loved watching the the sheep in the woods. It’s so interesting seeing how they have made the land into a small working farm. The gardens and grounds are truly stunning, and I have never I seen a cleaner swimming pool. Bridget had mentioned to me that many children had learned to swim in the pool, that certainly was the case for our youngest son. When we first got there he was clinging on to me , by the time we left he was throwing himself off the deep end. We all feel in love with Harry, Bridget and Bernard’s dog. My sons still talk about him. I would definitely recommend visiting Quinta do Sobral.
