Fantastic bungalows at the beach of Saint Marie. A great restaurant with good drinks. Whale safaris start directly from the hotel. With tuc tucs the habour, diving trips and the airport on the south tip of Saint Marie is easy to reach. From there, Iles aux Nattes is a good day trip.

We have ben here for two days so far. We would leave if we could but we have already payed in advance so we have to stay another 5 dsys... You can't swim in the sea at the beach because of urchins. That was a big disappointment for us when we arrived. You can swim around the rocks out in the sea but thats barely possible with little kids. Other hotels seem to clean their beaches from urchins but not this one. The pool is nice but quite chilly. There are multiple roosters around the property. They start screaming at 3am and keep going until 6am to make sure you cant even dream of going back to sleep again. Many of the staff are not very friendly but seem unmotivated. There are exceptions, e.g. the receptionist. Also they are not very attentive. We are a family with toddlers and we had to ask for the high chair and a spoon instead of cutlery every meal - they would not bring it themselves. The food is tasty but the menue is quite small. Dinner starts at 7pm the earliest. You have to preorder your meal and they give you a timeslot. If you aren't the first to order, you can't choose your slot but have to take what is left. Sadly they were always late for our meals - starting dinner at 7.30pm with two tired toddlers is just a pain. The rooms are spacious, the shower is hot. There are no mosquito nets at the windows. So in the evening you basically sit in your bed under the mosquito net or you get stung. In our house some of the lamps were broken so it was quite dark. That's it. I suppose Libertalia is a good place to go for couples that are not light sleepers and don't expect too much from the staff. We think it is not great with little kids and for people who want to have a good sleep here - because you most likely wont.

We absolutely loved our 4-night stay at Hotel Libertalia! All our needs were taken care of by the comfortable facilities and friendly staff. The airy bungalow had direct access to the sandy beach, lounge chairs on the porch, roomy shower, and comfortable bed. We ended up eating all our meals at the hotel restaurant because the food was so good -- fresh seafood, delicious sauces, French and Malagasy cooking styles. The owners offer a reputable whale watching excursion right from the hotel. In addition to beaches and sunset, we enjoyed the swimming pier, the "private island" (where we explored tidepools), the infinity pool, and seeing whales right from the shore. We were happy to relax for 4 days in this great environment!
