Property Description
The Chestnut House The perfect place for you and your family to rest, unplug, enjoy novice trout fishing, and stargaze under the clean country sky. Welcome to the Chestnut House. This recently renovated riverfront home is a blend of historic charm and modern elegance. Originally built in 1926 as a log cabin made of real chestnut, it has since been used as a US Post office, country market, and later a house in 1936. The home is nestled between the Cardinal and Little Priest mountains in the Blue Ridge Range and the George Washington & Jefferson National Forest. The main attraction of the Chestnut House is the outdoors. Just a step away from the back door is the Piney River. Enjoy the sounds of this rushing river from the beautiful sundeck furnished with Adirondak chairs, or the picnic tables, rock fire-pit, or hammock. This two-story cottage offers scenic river and mountain views, a wood stove, chef’s kitchen, and sleeping accommodations for up to six guests. Open the windows and enjoy the sounds of the rushing Piney River and nature throughout the house. A fun fact about the home: Growing on the side of the home facing the river is a very old, almost extinct, American Chestnut Tree. This is why we call it the “Chestnut House”. Lastly, don’t forget your fishing rods! Native brook trout and wild brown trout populate the river.About pets:Pets allowed: dogs (limit 1 total). If you wish to bring more than 1 dog pls reach out.About checkOut:Check out before 11:00 AM.About children:Children allowed: ages 0-17.About customRules:No parties please No unregistered guests NO SMOKING inside (including marijuana), no illegal drugs.About checkIn:Check in after 3:00 PM.About smoking:Smoking is not permitted.About minBookingAge:Minimum age to rent: 25.About events:No events allowed.

Beautiful setting! Although off the beaten path and requires a little planning for groceries, this is an excellent place to unwind and sip your morning coffee beside the flowing stream. We so enjoyed spending a long weekend with family enjoying the quiet mountain setting. The house was immaculate and very well appointed with everything needed to prepare a wonderful meal, even fresh eggs provided by our lovely hosts! We could not have wished for anything else than what is already provided! Thank you.

Amazing property. We absolutely loved our stay and the beautiful kitchen and huge gas stove were such a cozy touch. The open wood ceilings made it feel like a cabin. The water view was stunning and we had a blast fishing and enjoying the spacious yard. The whole experience felt so peaceful, especially with all the great hiking nearby. Highly recommend for anyone looking to recharge in nature.

A lovely home and spot. This was the perfect spot for our spring break getaway. The home was clean and a great mix of modern and rustic. The beds and furniture were comfy, and the kitchen a great place to cook and hang out. We loved coming back after some Appalachian Trail hiking to sink into the chairs by the gorgeous river. Maria was a thoughtful and considerate host who communicated clearly and kindly. We plan on returning to stay there again!

10/10 We had such a nice getaway weekend at The Chestnut House. The Heiston’s went above and beyond to make our stay exceptional. The house was beautiful, cozy, and quiet. While sitting outside, the only thing we could hear was the relaxing sound of the river running through the backyard. The hosts made us feel very welcome and made it a wonderful experience. We would definitely book this home again. 10/10 recommend!
