A truly beautiful pub hotel. Great friendly team, beautiful rooms, good food and real fire. Off road parking. Nothing to complain about at all. We will be back.

Had friends visiting for the weekend who wanted to eat in a traditional Lake District pub so we drove them here through Great Langdale to get the full scenic experience. Stunning location with friendly staff and an interior that's kept its character over the 30+ years I've been visiting. Service was prompt, menu was a little shorter than expected but food quality was good with no one left disappointed. Thought the prices were a little on the high side (typically £25 for mains/£9 for desserts) but other that, glad to be back.

I’m not given to writing hotel reviews but feel that on this occasion I must. Firstly, the setting. The Lake District is very beautiful and the setting for The Three Shires is no exception. Very ‘away from it all’ which is quite a rarity in the Lake District. Wonderful walking country. And to top it all, the weather was very good. Our room was well equipped with a very good bathroom. Staff were all friendly with a quiet efficiency. The food in the restaurant, both for breakfast and dinner was excellent. A very good menu – an extensive breakfast menu and an unusual dinner menu. It’s so good to find something just bit different on restaurant menus. Everything we had could not have been better. The Lamb Kofta deserves a special mention and the smoked bacon dauphinoise was to die for. Yummy. All in all, a pleasurable stay.

We love the Langdale valleys and have been staying at the Three Shires for a number of years that include the two previous owners. The pub had changed hands earlier this year and we were slightly apprehensive about what to expect in view of some of the recent adverse comments on Tripadvisor. Whilst the bedrooms were refurbished to a high standard by the previous owners , we had a great three day stay during which we were well looked after by George, Jordan and Katie. Breakfast continues to be of a high standard with plenty of choice, and dinner is better than ever with the introduction of a new menu. The Three Shires continues to be in good hands and we will return again soon.

Wow has this place improved since Richard the last owner left…the new owners actually say hello and are grateful for your custom…the food has improved and they don’t refuse to serve you if all you want is a cup of tea…if you look at all past reviews you will see how Richard took pride in lambasting the reviewers…but now he’s gone…please visit the lovely pub …we had a great welcome at lunch time and the food is such an improvement…and rather than just point at a map and say….”the cave is there”they took time to show us where it was….and they won’t beat you up about the parking…what a refreshing change.

Incredible food, service and location. I cannot recommend this establishment highly enough. The rooms are clean and very comfortable. 3shires offers fantastic value for money. For walkers there are numerous interesting and beautiful areas to explore

Visited for lunch, midweek and quiet, not a very friendly welcome, menu as online, we ate fish sandwich and sausage sandwich both of which were tasty and well cooked, sadly the chips were refried, the bread rolls/buns appeared stale and salad was dry, pint of Loweswater Gold was very good. So a mixed bag. I will watch the reviews to see if here improves before we revisit.

Popped in for a drink after a great walk. Very friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere. Plenty of local beverages to choose from. Prices are very reasonable and there is a food menu available too. Would have loved to have had a table outside for the views, but it was a busy afternoon. Maybe next time. Definitely worth a visit before heading home!

A lovely place to stay. Nice people, good beer and great food. The venison was particularly memorable. Plenty of walking from the door. The Wetherlam/Swirl How/Great Carrs/Hell Gill Pike circuit is a good outing and on the easier scale the East/West traverse of Lingmoor Fell finishing via Side Pike and Blea Tarn. Relatively quiet compared to its better known nieghbour. Looking forward to going back.
