Captain Morgan's Retreat

Fantastic stay! Rooms were great - staff were super friendly. Loved sitting on the balcony looking at the ocean. We had massages at the end of the pier and loved them so much we had another round 3 days later! Location is very peaceful - would definitely recommend staying here!

Just spent two weeks at Captain Morgans. I would def not stay there again. The cabanas on the beach are literally like a 1980's motel room. (dark & outdated) We spent most of our time on the next-door pool property. (Oceans 23). The food was just ok, staff nice, but literally a place just to sleep & shower. The appearance from the road looking at Captain Morgans is pretty bad........almost looks like it has lacked basic maintenance for years. New owner is not friendly or engaging. The other staff is nice though. There are many, much, much nicer places to stay...........only wished we had known before booking. The online photos are deceiving.

This is a great resort more north of town (closer to Secret beach than staying in town). They have 2 pools and a restaurant and bar. We stayed in the cabanas on the beach and were pleasantly surprised. Big rooms, with a couch, mini fridge and coffee maker in the room. They are right on the ocean with beautiful views to wake up to!!

Morgan’s table was wonderful. Try the seafood platter that is off menu. Way yummy. Also the massages were great. The chef was wonderful, the managers of the restaurant and bar were helpful. Plus the karaoke on Friday nights was great too. Please visit the when in San Pedro

As a time share owner, I have been continuously disappointed in the resort since it was purchased by new owners in 2018. Though they appear to be making some improvements in the property, they have not made,any efforts to maintain the timeshare units. We have owned timeshares there for nearly 20 years, and the units have the same furniture they had 20 years ago. The sofa bed is essentially unusable. Hence, there is no comfortable seating in the unit. The mattress is completely sunk in the middle, also extremely uncomfortable. The lighting in the units is terrible, and the resort does not provide any useful amenities that other timeshare resorts normally provide. (Such as salt & pepper, paper towels, and adequate dishes) Yet, they are building more hotel rooms. It is obvious that they have no interest in accommodating timeshare owners. If you are looking to trade your timeshare unit for Captain Morgans, I would not recommend it. I am afraid you would be greatly disappointed. It is just sad to see this once beautiful resort deteriorate as it has these last few years.

The pictures on ******* and their site are VERY outdated. The resort exterior is super run down and underwhelming. You drive up and the first thing you see is the "******" which is closed and dilapidated. We got there around 6:30 and the lobby was closed and most of the lights were off luckily a worker let us into our room. 1/2 the resort is going through renovation which was not mentioned so the main pool would not be a place you would want to hang out as the renovations were happening right next to it. The cabana we stayed in was nice- definitely dated but served the purpose. There was 4 of us and we were given 3 towels (we got more the next day) and there was nowhere to hang anything. We had bathroom towels all over the room. It was a nice view of the sand and water. Unfortunately, the bugs were bad so we weren't able to enjoy the front porch. I am sure this place used to be amazing, but it has definitely lost a lot of its luster. We really didn't do anything there but sleep. There were two pools, but we did not use either as they did not seem that clean. We got one cup of coffee for $5usd that was Kirkland brand but did not get any food so not sure quality there. We heard mixed reviews from other travelers. We had stayed at the Belizan Shores last year and wished we would have moved but it was too much of a hassle. All of the staff that we talked to were great- friendly and attentive.
