The hotel has a lovely position right on the edge of the ocean. The grounds and pool area are immaculate and well cared for. The gate at the bottom or the gardens lead to the beach and walkways. The 2 outside pools were too cold to use in November although some hardy souls did brave a dip. There was also a gym which was well equipped. The room we had was a good size with a balcony that looked out on the car park and road and out over Alvor. The air con/ heating worked well when needed. The bed was very comfortable. The rooms were kept immaculately clean. A safe was provided as standard and there was a decent fridge. Coming out of the lift on each floor, there were chairs and a settee where people could sit and watch the ocean and the sunsets, read or play cards or join with other guests for a chat. The piece de resistance of the stay was the breakfast buffet. Everything you could possibly want was available - cereals, breads, pastries, cheese, hams, fresh fruits, yogurts, freshly cooked eggs to order and full cooked breakfast items. Fruit juices, Spumante and 3 coffee machines took care of refreshments. We were lucky enough to be able to sit outside for breakfast every morning. Staff were always approachable and helpful and the whole place was very welcoming. Would definitely return to this hotel if coming to Alvor and would recommend it highly.

A wonderful hotel in a wonderful golf setting. Clean hotel, excellent catering, friendly service, pleasant prices. We will definitely be back. Beach maintained every day. We were extremely satisfied. We played golf courses Gramacho, Pinta, Silves, Alto, Faldo, O'Connors jnr, and Academy night golf. All wonderful.

Great looking hotel but getting tired. Gardens and swimming pool well looked after. The hotel clients seemed to be mainly from Ireland with a more than generous helping of golfers in stag groups. As we knew this is a golfing holiday centre but noisy and drink affected society members have little respect for others who are on holiday. Avoid room 2008, almost shared with the outdoor public veranda and it's associated inebriated golfers and smokers. Do not expect coffee and tea facilities in the room, they charge 10 euros to borrow a kettle and you buy your own coffee and teas.. A service charge of 10% is made on all purchases over the bar and restaurant and is only shown on your receipt. If you have a Pestana discount card it gives you 10% off but is then taken back on the service charge, ridiculous. There are not a lot of local options for dining and entertainment, maybe the Red Rib is the nearest. I cannot recommend this hotel to ordinary holiday makers without a set of golf clubs. purchases (service charge) shown on till receipts.

Could be great hotel if the staff were supported trying to do their jobs. The Pestana group have decided in all their hotels to automatically levy a 10% tip at bars and food outlets. This would be less irritating if the staff got the tips which they tell me they do not so the Hotel group deprive staff of getting tips as you have already been surcharged the tip. The response from management is you don't have to pay the tip but who wants this embarrassment? The staff tell me they depended on tips due to low wages now this has been taken away from them, leaving them demotivated. Many guests have complained but the response is " It is a group decision" This will make it less likely to book a Pestana hotel in the future.

Very friendly and efficient staff, great value for money, lovely location by the beach and close to the quaint town of Alvor. Good value for money especially if booking golf rounds at Pestana courses.

We have been here many times. We love the hotel, the location. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. The sea view from the side of the hotel is still very beautiful .A member of our group has a recently diagnosed gluten allergy and was delighted with the breakfast choices and help offered when she asked. Our only complaint is the sunbeds by the pool - they have not been upgraded in the years we have been visiting and are old and very uncomfortable. For those of us who like to spend time by the pool it's important. Apart from that we love this hotel, and will be back.

A big disappointment! Despite requesting a room near to my fellow traveller (via our Tour Operator and a personal telephone call to the Hotel) on arrival, discovered we were on the 1st and 3rd floor! Reception advised that hotel was fully booked but after a search on their booking system we did get rooms on the same floor. No internet for two days. No hot water one day and only lukewarm the second day. No kettle in the room for you to make a hot drink. Indoor swimming pool was closed for refurbishment. Why? Guests - when holidaying in March - would have chosen this hotel because it had an indoor pool facility. Surely, any necessary refurbishment should have been scheduled for the summer months? A four star hotel but not a four star experience.
