Not recommended. Was told loud pub customers would stay as late as 01.00 on Saturday night - they could be heard inside and outside. Room smelt very damp which was very unpleasant and is a potential health issue. I left late evening feeling unable to stay overnight - a refund was refused.

Should have read all the reviews before booking. There is a theme once you get reading through. This was the worst experience I have had in a ‘hotel’ I am a bricklayer and was staying 4 nights working in Alton, so long days and early starts. I was put in a room right over the smoking area. Stench and noise was horrendous. Football playing on Tuesday night. Manager said it would be off by 9.30. It wasn’t and when I complained at 11.00pm she said she didn’t like MY attitude! Row went on until around midnight. I had enough after three nights of this and so packed up and left this morning. Needless to say I don’t recommend and won’t be back!

Freshly prepared food, excellent service in a classic pub environment. Good value and a highly recommended watering hole if you end up at the Alton end of the Watercress Line. Some of the other pubs in town don't offer food but luckily this one does, and it's good.

I stayed here with my dad. My first reaction was that it was a good old fashioned pub. We arrived and managed to park the car in the small on site car park. Headed through the beer garden/patio area and checked in at the desk. We were told where to find our room and headed up to find we had been given a huge room with 2 single beds either side of a lage double, this meant that I could send dad to the other side of the room to avoid his snooring. We decided to head down for food in the bar area. The food was fantastic and I can highly recommend the prawn cocktail. Whilst enjoying our drinks we could see the locals coming in having a laugh and playing pool and darts etc. Once we had finished our food we headed off for showers and bed. Our room was directly above the bar area so understandably there was noise. I fell asleep to some sort of grease mega mix. I slept through without any disturbances. I was concerned that I would have been kept awake but it simply wasn't the case. In reply to those who have given a low score, please remember that this is a local popular pub, it is much better to hear a popular independent establishment than a quite one on the verge of collapse. Keep up the good work The Crown Inn Alton!

The best hotel i have ever stayed in, the staff are incredibly firendly and the room was soo comfy, breakfast was quick and delicious, beers were fresh. Highly recommend !! Hotel is opposite a lovely little museum of alton history, and is dead close to the train station which is always nice

We booked Saturday lunchtime, and arrived at 7 to find the loudest disco ever going on The room bounced. We were told it would go on till between 12.30 and 1.00. When I asked how they could have sold me the room only hours before, knowing it was this loud, the manager said they ‘weren’t really a hotel, but a pub that does parties’. She became rude when I asked for a refund and then messed about with the card machine telling me it wouldn’t work with my card. She was rude, the whole place tacky and unpleasant, an entirely awful experience.

Probably the worst hotel / place I ever paid to stay in! Firstly to couldn’t park in the car park because it was full so I had to pay for parking both nights … , secondly the room was tiny and had no window making it even more hot and depressing the room was about 2 meters by 2 , thirdly the light in the bathroom didn’t work, fourthly the bed was super uncomfortable, 5th the room was too hot and the fan supplied didn’t work , then all night both nights I stayed there was really loud music and people all night and seeming I had to work both days it ****** ! Oh and to top it all off the fire alarm went off waking me up and wasn’t turned off for about 4 minutes! All in all severely disappointed

Due to a personal misfortune I needed an hotel room in Alton very late on a cold and dismal night. I managed to book a room at The Crown and arrived after they had closed their doors. I phoned and was let in. The room was warm, the bed was comfortable and I was very thankful for a good nights sleep after a traumatic day. However, the next morning there was no hot water in the hand basin, despite running the taps for at least ten minutes. The power shower had been left on what looked like a medium setting but came out ferociously hot and I got a minor, small scald on my chest. The shower was very difficult to set to a moderate, bearable temperature but I managed it with some difficulty. The shower head delivered a feeble trickle of water, despite it being a power shower. I had looked forward to breakfast, advertised outside as ‘Meals from 7:30’ and highly recommended locally but when I went down at 8:30 I was told breakfast was from 09:00. I I ate elsewhere
