They tricked you into taking a shared everything. It’s better to stay in a cell than staying in their accommodation. They even get your deposit without refund. Not suitable for mature students who need privacy. The environment is so dirty

Stayed at Amber House for the days leading up to the Jubilee weekend Thursday to Saturday as location was handy for the National Memorial Arboretum where we due to attend for a Jubilee Lunch on Friday… the B&B Website is rather misleading as it has a full dinner menu with an excellent choice selection but the host no longer provides it so we had to eat out in the local pubs on both nights… the room & bed was OK & considering it's proximity to the A38 road noise was non-existent & we slept very well… the room furniture however was poor with the wardrobe door catch hanging off & to open/close the drawer required superhuman strength… There was coffee & milk but no tea bags & the complimentary bottle of water had all black bits in it as the stopper had not been cleaned… The bathroom had mould on the grouting & the shower although appearing quite new the shower cubicle had large amounts of mould… The landing/stairs had a very pungent antiseptic odour which was quite off putting… Breakfast menu was extensive but not the best quality to be fair… Milk for the cornflakes was tainted & possibly with dishwasher solution which had not rinsed off properly… beans were a teaspoonful & dried up… Two fried eggs both undercooked & “snotty” the Hash Brown was more a potato patty… certainly not crispy… Sausage & Bacon was very average. The table cutlery & glassware was to be fair disgusting & we had to clean them ourselves & several of the dishes & plates had specks of dried food. Gill however was a lovely host but has clearly let standards drop given all the awards from previous years maybe due to health or staffing issues but sadly it is not an establishment that we will be returning to

A party of 7 of us took over all of Gill’s rooms to attend a wedding. As some reviewers have mentioned, this is not a 4 star hotel. If that’s what floats your boat then this probably isn’t for you - but you’ll be missing out. The rooms are clean and comfortable and Gill and her staff make you feel like you are staying with friends. Warm, thoughtful, kind and knowledgable friends who bake their own bread, serve a fantastic locally sourced breakfast with home made preserves and sauces - even home made baked beans! (Delicious). We were made welcome and comfortable and greeted with pots of coffee and a chat. Nothing was too much trouble including early check in and late check out. A very lovely stay which added to our enjoyment of the occasion overall. Thank you Gill!

Gill was so welcoming and nothing was to much trouble. Breakfast was amazing. We enjoyed our stay. Lovely village to wander down to canals about 15 minutes. Easy access from the main road. We were not disturbed by road noise as described by other reviews.
