Convenient facilities, affordable and clean rooms with friendly staff, and a central location near downtown. However, some may find the retro microwave outdated.

First the good: the retro touches in the room are really nice. The fridge and microwave are so cute! The towels and sheets are clean and soft. Check-in after hours was easy: our keys were in the lockbox. The coffee provided is from a local roaster and is delicious and plentiful. The bad: I had a couple questions beforehand, but no one answered the phone when I called, nor did anyone answer my e-mail. The room itself was not clean, especially the floors. This was easily apparent in the bathroom, which needed a good scrubdown on the floor, walls, and under the cracked sink. The room is dated and worn, the layout of the bathroom cramped and I had to sit diagonally on the toilet. There was one electrical outlet in the room, and none at all in the bathroom. The TV didn't work. The outside chairs were too dirty to sit in (and I am not picky). The mattress was broken down and uncomfortable. The office was closed whenever I went, although my friend had no trouble with it. We left after our first night, and were promised a refund for our remaining stay. It's a shame these units haven't been cleaned and updated, because this place could be a real gem. As it is, it is highly overpriced for what a traveler gets. The Hampton Inn costs the same amount and is both clean and comfortable, with responsive staff. The Antelope Lodge might be good for a 20-something traveler who is just passing through, but they should book the cheapest room.

The Antelope Lodge was nothing fancy but it was very cozy, clean, and comfortable! I felt like I had stepped back into the 1960’s. The owner was very kind and friendly. Our original room had a water leak in the bathroom but the owner quickly moved us to another unit. I will book this lodge again if and when I return to Alpine, Texas!

Unpretentious as it is, the lodge offered me a small, simple oasis of peace and quiet in the middle of a long road trip. The spacious yard has trees and a fire pit (logs are available for free), and there’s a good communal kitchen. The staff were sweet too.

Here’s the updated review with your addition: --- This was our first experience in Texas as Canadians, and unfortunately, it was a very disappointing one at the Antelope Lodge. We had booked and paid for our stay well in advance, and even confirmed with Brit over the phone that we could check in after hours. We were assured that the key would be in the lockbox, as stated in our confirmation email. However, upon arrival at 10:30 pm after driving over 3000 km, we found there was no key in the lockbox. We called the emergency number listed on the main door multiple times, but no one returned our calls. We were left stranded and had to find an alternative place to sleep for the night. The next morning, we spoke to Jess, who told us that the key had been "taped" to the door, which completely contradicted the detailed check-in policy we were provided. If no one answers the emergency line, what would guests do if they accidentally locked themselves out of their room? Clearly, this is a serious issue. Jess mentioned that she would talk to the manager about the situation, but I seriously doubt I will even get a refund for the night that we were locked out, especially since I believe the “taped” key was a scam to cover their behind. Furthermore, we were told they tried to call us back, but we had left all our contact information, and there was no attempt to reach us. We were forced to pay for another night at a different accommodation, despite already having paid for our room at Antelope. While the room itself was nice and clean on the second day, we were disappointed to find that they didn't bother to change the towels or clean the room on the night before our departure. To make matters worse, there was an envelope in the room asking for a tip for Lupe, yet when we finally checked in a day later, we saw Brit and Jess cleaning the rooms. This raised concerns that this might be part of a scam. Overall, the lack of professionalism, poor communication, and questionable practices make it hard to recommend this place. Very frustrating experience.

Just on the edge of town. Old old place. It is very retro and nice. The rooms are like a hotel room, bed/living/kitchenette all in one room and the bathroom with an old style built in tile shower and tile floors. This cabin/room had the absolute quietest a/c and heater I've ever seen. Set to automatic temp control with a remote and let it run. We did not hear it, even when awake and the room stayed at the temp we set it at. Outside temps were in upper 30's at night and lower 70's during the day. Floors in room were painted cement. Small closet and a couple tables next to bed and a couple wooden tables to store stuff on, and an antique table with 2 chairs that looked like they were from the 60's. Bed was comfortable, we slept great. The staff were very good to us. They changed out towels and emptied trash and swept floors daily. Court yard was nice, stay on the grass, they have cocka burrs in the brown grass along the edges and behind the cabins. Check in was easy, key drop for checkout. PET FRIENDLY! We love this.

Excellent stay! Rooms are very clean, and beds are comfortable. Erica was wonderful, she checked us in,and showed us around. Close to everything. The grocery store has everything you'll need. Our room has a separate bedroom too. Having a family room was a bonus.

Great place only if you like quiet accommodations, extra friendly service and quaint setting. The rooms were very well equipped and the community kitchen was easily accessible at all hours. The rooms were equipped with coffee pot, microwave and refrigerator. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

If you are looking for a high-end, luxurious boutique hotel, this is not the place for you. BUT, if you are looking for a simple, clean, super quiet place to recharge, get a room here. The rooms are small and simple with a microwave, darling retro refrigerator, and coffee pot. The bathrooms are tiny yet functional. There's a community kitchen with stove and oven, as well as an ice machine, paper plates, and cups and cookware. The managers are darling as well. We sat outside late at night in the well-appointed courtyard and watched the stars, totally undisturbed.
