We stayed overnight here aswell as ate in the restaurant. The room was spacious, warm and the bed was very comfortable. The boiler wasn’t working, no hot water so couldn’t shower but they offered us discount, so it didn’t matter and they called us on the day of the stay in the morning to notify us if this. The only thing was the lock on the room door. It wasn’t easy to lock and we couldn’t lock it going down for breakfast, but other than that, we were happy with the room. It is an old building so creaks/ draughts to be expected. The food, we thought was excellent. We had dinner and also the breakfast. Wasn’t too keen on the bacon but everything else was superb and tasty.

If you are looking for a luxury boutique hotel this is not it! In fact it doesn’t even come close to good value, £135 to stay in a tired, basic, run down inn. Chipped and dirty paint work, worn dirty carpets and a mouldy shower sets the scene. If this had been £65 a night fair enough (plus I wouldn’t have booked it!) but at £135 this sets a much higher expectation! On the plus side the food was pretty good just don’t stay!

For our two night stay we could not have asked for more. We had breakfast both mornings and dinner on one of the evenings. Food was great, nicely cooked with food tolerances understood and gluten free bread easily available. I understand some rooms are due for refurbishment but our room (no 4) was fine, spacious, comfortable and clean. Our bathroom was great with a good shower, plenty of hot water and white fluffy towels. The building IS old so expect some creaking and noise as other residents move around and there is some chipped paintwork but hey, it’s a hotel! What really stood out for us was the service, welcoming, attentive, friendly and always with a smile. We enjoyed our stay very much, thank you!

I do not recommend this hotel it is poor value for money. Our bedroom was cold and heating wasnt working. When we enquired we were told the boiler was broken, strange when we had hot water in the taps. They provided us with a heater, which we left on all night to warm the room. The room was very basic, ironing board just stood up by the wardrobe. We only stayed one night, but there are no drawers if you want to unpack if staying longer. The paint work everywhere is in poor condition and everywhere needs a good clean and repaint. The window frame in the bar area was dirty and stained. The doors in the ladies toilets are in an appalling state, chipped, scratched paintwork, doesnt give a hygenic feel to the place. The corridors are in the same state of poor paint work and general grime conditon. This hotel is run down and in need of refurbishment work. It felt dirty, unkept with no pride in its appearance.

Restaurant was nice, food was good and staff very nice. Room had large comfortable bed but maintenance was non existent. Room heating was switched off at arrival so took hours to warm up. WiFi constantly cut out. TV did not work - bare wire aerial connections never satisfactory. Two of four lighting fixtures in bathroom not working and extractor fan switched off at concealed breaker. Sink drain partially blocked. Don’t stay here!

I stayed four nights in room 3. The room was spacious but only had a small heater to warm it up (not very effective). Access to all other rooms is past room 3 and the floor creaks, so that was a bit of a problem. Bathroom OK. However, everything needs a lick of paint. Bed was comfortable, sheets clean etc. Staff were helpful and pleasant at bar and at breakfast. I booked breakfast for each morning but wouldn't again - it's basically juice (orange or apple) and tea/coffee plus eggs. No cereal, no fruit. The place is inexpensive and generally does what it says, so I think it was good value for money. Not many frills though.

Room needed a thorough clean. Thick dust that I could write my name in. Even the walls had dust on them! Black mould in bathroom sink. This does not happen overnight - this is from a long time of poor cleaning. Reported it to staff. Room cost £230 and breakfast not included for the two of us. Expensive unclean room.
