Quinta de Sao Luiz the Vine House

We did the wine tour at Quinta São Luiz and it was a pleasant enough guided wander through the sweet port-smelling winery and storehouses. Followed by an equally pleasant guided tasting in a modern cafe environment. Outside was a glorious terrace with seating overlooking the glorious Douro River. I believe there is also a hotel and restaurant on site.

The hotel has beautiful views but residents are not catered for. The restaurant and terrace has obviously a corporate interest and used for commercial purposes. Residents are expected to walk to get drinks from a small bar away from hotel and bring them back to the hotel. However that area is usually very busy full of coach parties. We have stayed at many Quinta’s and never found that the residents were treated as second class. It is stated you can park outside room but with so many cars and buses this is not always possible. You can eat in the restaurant in the evening but when it’s closed you are really paying for an upmarket bed and breakfast and are not expected to return until all the corporate entertaining has finished. There are far too many competing corporate interests for this to be an enjoyable holiday venue.

Stayed at the Vine House for 3 nights as part of a Portugal wine tour and could have stayed longer. My room was very spacious with a comfortable bed. I spent most of my evenings sitting out on my patio. The pool was very refreshing after a warm day of site seeing. On our first night there we had hotel prepared a wonderful dinner for our group served on the restaurant patio. They have public wine tours and tastings as well as a patio where they serve wine during the day.

Thank you for givimg us the worst service experienve ever! A guide with his hands in the pocket , letting tje guestd do his work by picking up glasses and blaming the tour lesder of the bus. I will use this example to my tourism students how to NOT behave🙈🙈🙈

Once we arrived and checked in they let us know that the last tour of the day was about to start so we decided to head over to meet our guide in the vineyard and then back to enjoy and sample Kopke port wines. We booked the Deluxe Room with Balcony - #103 with what I must say was a great room, comfortable king size bed, Shower with nice water pressure, small fridge with drinks for a fee. The best part I must say are the room views of the Douro river and vineyards. We enjoyed a bottle of wine we bought after the tour and relaxed on the terrace while enjoying the view. Later that evening we booked a table at the The Vine House restaurant and had a great dinner. My wife is vegetarian and we found there was a good amount of choices on the menu. We let Chef Vitor de Oliveira guide us through the wine list and what paired well with his recommendations on the menu. The next morning the breakfast was great with a nice offering including fresh squeezed orange juice. The hotel is located between towns Pinhão and Peso da Régua. We had arranged for an uber from our hotel in Porto to the Quinta São Luiz hotel and took the train back from Pinhão. One thing to note we took taxis to and from Pinhão and our transportation from Quinta São Luiz to Pinhão was 20 euro each way. While in Pinhão take boat rides, visit the train station, walk around the small town and one the highlights for us was the tour of Quinta das Carvalhas and wine tasting. Walking distance from the town and an amazing tour we will never forget. Book ahead as they sell out fast. Our only regret is that we only booked one night at Quinta São Luiz Douro. We would highly recommend it to anyone and the staff really made it the perfect stay.

Wonderful rooms and helpful staff on a beautiful stretch of the river. We had a great balcony room and really enjoyed the breakfast. The staff helped arrange cars for us to see the area without having to drive. The free port tasting and tour was a nice bonus.
