Woodall Country House and Spa

Solo female traveler. Stayed 3 nights in a suite. Woodall is a special place, with a wonderful staff, and I enjoyed every minute of my time there. What's to love: - Eduarn, the friendly and super-capable GM, is on top of everything. Prior to my trip, he was quick to amend my booking, answer my questions, provide information before I even asked (which route to take, where to stop along the way, etc.) During the stay, he was always available and on top of everything - Freddie, the pianist/restaurant manager (?)/go-to guy, is very warm, accommodating person. He's looking out for everyone - The deck, the deck, the deck! Comfortable sitting areas with views of the very active swamp. (Ornithophiles will be in heaven here) - The lodge is very accessible: straightforward journey from Port Elizabeth, good roads. Only 90 minutes from PLZ - My suite was gigantic, and it included outdoor showers (as well as indoor), tall ceilings, a private patio surrounded by nature, a dipping pool (got a kick out of the unironic "No Lifeguard on Premises/No Diving" sign), a refrigerator, USB outlets, safe, robes, slippers, etc. Lots of natural light and fresh air. Very quiet; dark at night; and AC worked fine - Complimentary bottle of wine; chocolates every night; welcome beverage; handwritten, personalized notes. Pastries (baked onsite) available in the lobby all day - Strong WiFi in common areas and rooms - They wash the guests' cars - Extremely comfortable beds. Strong, hot showers - Charlotte Rhys bath products - Spa onsite - Adjacent to Addo Elephant Park. So easy to take a half-day safari. Breakfast is provided. Lots of elephants, viewed up close - Both Eduarn offered a "to-go" breakfast when I told them I had to depart at 5:15 a.m. - Friendly, attentive restaurant staff - On-the-ball housekeeping What could be improved: - Uncomfortable dining room chairs

Spacious room and good quality food. The choice for dinner is limited. You don't have a choice of starter (I think it's always soup). For the main course there is a choice of two. The hotel could use some renovation. This was our third visit in at least 15 years and nothing has changed in that time.

This has got to be one of the most beautiful places to stay in S. Africa. We were lucky and received an upgrade which was perfect. The staff are extreemly friendly including all those with responsibilities and includes the chamber maid, just everyone. I would recommend this hotel in all aspects whether it be the location, the rooms, the service, the restaurant, the safari tour. We had a lovely time. Thanks to you all, David

Woodall is very close to Addo, hence the perfect location to start or end your tour through Addo. The property is surrounded by plants, trees, and beautiful flowers which makes it very special. You rather feel your a bit in a jungle, though. Freddie is great host and is doing its utmost to serve all needs of his guests. His piano skills are amazing, especially considering that he never took any piano classes. Also all other staff member are very heartfelt. Eduard (sorry if I misspelled it) is such a great guy. A joy to talk to him and really taking good care of the hotel. Dinner was good, so was breakfast.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by Freddie who turns out to be an amazing individual. He went out of his way to welcome us, show us around, make sure every one of our needs was met and even serenaded us guests with some amazing piano music during dinner. Freddie is a gem and literally there to help 24/7. The facilities are stunning and even the smallest details have been taken care of. Our room had a plunge pool in the private courtyard surrounded by lush greenery. Pre-dinner drinks are served on the veranda overlooking a beautiful pond with copious birds and ducks to be seen. As evening approached, Freddie lit some lamps that turned the evening truly magical. Dinners were beautifully plated and scrumptious. Our guided drive into Addo was wonderful and we saw elephant, hyena, lion, zebra and much more. Godwin was our guide and it would be worthwhile requesting him specifically. All in all, our stay was memorable and unforgettable. Thanks Freddie and the great support team you have. And no small thanks to our guide Godwin.
