We were a group of 12 Armed Forces Veterans who had pre-booked lunch from the menu sent to our group coordinator. Everything was fine until we came to pay the bill. All our meals had increased by £3-£4 each from when we had booked about 2 weeks ago. We showed them the menu we had received but they refused to honour it so we had no alternative but to pay the extra cost. I endeavoured to explain that I believed Trading Standards would side with us and that the original prices should be honoured but to no avail. Needless to say we didn’t give a tip and we won’t be going back!

After reading some of the reviews I was apprehensive about our stay but I can honestly say we had a lovely time. Staff were all friendly and very helpful. Our room was clean and comfortable with complimentary hair and body gel and conditioner in the shower cubicle and liquid hand wash at the sink. Tea coffee and biscuits were provided and bottles of water. Thank you The Kings Head Hotel

Called in for 1 drink 10 pm told no if you’re not staying here. Obviously don’t need customers paying them for a drink to keep in business. Strange rules to say the least. 2 pensioners before returning to our hotel. Much nicer pub just down. They don’t deserve to be in business. Shame on them

Very disappointing Sunday lunch. Beyond average. Meat all very well done and very uninspiring vegetables served with one giant roast potato. Had much better roast dinners for not much more money. Overpriced and pretty grim. Not great interior either.

The room was horrific. Like staying in a fun house. The slope on the floor meant that the bed was on blocks on the back legs, was tilting to one side and tiny! 77 decibels for nearly three hours from DJ downstairs who had blocked the door to the rooms with a speaker (fire hazard) I had to move myself! I really don’t understand why someone would think it acceptable to have paying guests put up with this. One saving grace was that breakfast was excellent and the serving staff were absolutely lovely.

Food ok but overpriced. Very small portions which I think is done so that you order three courses. Roast dinner with ONE roast potato??? Presentation of the vegetables with the Sunday roast are just tipped into a bowl with loads of water in the bottom of the bowl, and you have to fish around for the different vegetables as all just tipped in.

The website boasts secure onsite parking. That is not true. There is no onsite parking and you have to pay to park a few streets away. Ok it’s not the most expensive hotel in Abergavenny but the rooms were scruffy and not serviced during our stay. Why did we have sheets that were too small to be tucked in? Shower only seemed to do one temperature and the water pressure only seemed good some of the time. But I might have overlooked this had it not been for the worst night’s sleep for our family (in 2 rooms) because of the noise from the band and the bar. It’s ok to be a noisy pub but it’s not ok not warn people - before they book that they will have no chance of sleep before midnight on Friday and Saturday nights. The Indian food in the restaurant was absolutely superb so I suggest the owners might want to expand their food offer and accept that they don’t really care enough about their their hotel guests to warrant advertising themselves as a good place to stay.
