I had a great experience this morning at the Marcliffe. I went along with some friends for some coffee and scones. We were given a very warm welcome by Tony at the door. He made us feel at home. What a great asset he is to the hotel. Everything was great - service, scones and coffee. Thank you

From the moment Matthew and his team welcomed us into the drawing room to the moment we left we were treated to five star service. My younger son had chosen the conservatory restaurant for his birthday dinner and it was a fantastic decision. Our welcome drinks and nibbles were followed by three delicious courses and drinks with Jamie also getting a decorated sweet plate to mark his birthday. I opted for cheese soufflé, cod and crème brûlée and all were exceptional. My husband and elder son confirmed that the Marcliffe still serves the best steaks they have ever eaten. The birthday boy opted for venison which also received the thumbs up. All te staff were polite, attentive and efficient which added that extra element to compliment the delicious food.

I am rather sad to be writing this review of a hotel I've known and admired from the day it was opened some 35 years ago. We arrived 10/15 minutes before the time we'd booked (which was 7.30 pm) and, as expected, were shown to a table in the lounge. It took some considerable time for us to be offered drinks and then a little longer for them to arrive. We then waited an age to be given menus. We declined more drinks and our order was eventually taken and we were shown to our table almost one hour after arriving. I accept that it was busy and food is cooked to order but if the kitchen cannot cope then surely fewer bookings should be taken. We were certainly not late and therefore the kitchen should have had us scheduled in. Over the course of the evening we were served by a variety of staff and twice were brought drinks when none had been ordered. Also, twice, we received apologies for delays. As the restaurant thinned out considerably we were asked if we wanted sweets and replied in the affirmative. However no menus were produced and we had to get the attention of a server and ask again for them. As we had our sweets the only other customers left and we were treated to staff setting tables for breakfast and the chefs, who work at an open kitchen, cleaning and tidying up and eventually leaving - this at little after 10.00 pm. The food was excellent and some of the staff were very engaged and pleasant. However we felt the attitude of one person (supervisor?) in particular, left much to be desired - drink we had not ordered and failure to return with menus.

Most of all, what makes The Marcliffe special is the staff—every person we met was incredibly warm, helpful, and kind, making us feel genuinely welcome. The property is peaceful and surrounded by beautiful trees and lush landscaping. The hotel itself has a classic, traditional style that feels authentic, not manufactured. The rooms are spacious, the decor is tasteful and elegant without being overdone, and the entire property has been thoughtfully updated. It’s also just a short drive to Aberdeen’s restaurants and attractions. Five stars all the way—thank you for a wonderful stay!

Surprise meal - cannot praise the staff enough. They are exceptional. Especially Jenna Bailey who was amazing. Food was exceptional and the atmosphere was amazing. Never had to fill our glasses, always someone on hand. Very friendly and always stayed for a chat. Loved it

Dinner was a fabulous experience and our waitress Jemma provided the best service and entertainment making our night 100% perfect. We are sure that having her on staff is the reason for at least 3 of the 5 stars this establishment boasts. Thank you for a memorable evening ✨️ 💛 💕

Went for afternoon tea, waited 45 minutes for service ( had already pre booked) Poor service , let down by a very average afternoon tea , no one came to ask if we needed anything , do not recommend , will not be returning .Such a let down for such an upmarket hotel.

Upon arrival we were made welcome with lovely staff and given a glass of Prosecco, we stayed in the balmoral suite but was very disappointed with the room, it certainly wasn’t 5 stars . Tired bathroom and nothing that you would associate the room with balmoral, no tartan to be seen anywhere. We had an evening meal there which was nice but they charged us for 2 wines and beers so this had to be rectified as we only had 1 , breakfast was overall good but the service let it down as we asked for toast but this never arrived, we then had to ask for orange juice and told the waitress we were still awaiting toast, she replied do you still require the toast as we were nearly finished our breakfast. At checkout no one asked how our stay was.
