Shibu Onsen KOKUYA
4.6/534 Reviews
From the moment you enter Kokuya Ryokan, be prepared to leave the real world behind and fully immerse yourself in the experience. You swap your shoes for slippers at the door and don’t see them again until you leave. You will receive a warm welcome from polite and gentle-mannered staff, get taken up to your beautiful room, and once you’ve changed into your traditional yukata, it’s time to let the relaxation begin. The multi-course dinner will probably be one of the best meals you’ve had in your life, with many unusual textures and flavors to try. The futons are comfortable, and your room is kept toasty warm. There are even skincare products to keep you pampered and moisturized between soaks in the onsen. Honestly, you won’t even need to open your suitcase while you’re there. The staff will take you through all the logistics when you arrive, but there are some things that might be useful to know in advance. - The ryokan sends a shuttle to Yudanaka station at about 15:00 to collect new arrivals, so time your journey to take advantage of this benefit. - The ryokan also offers guests the opportunity to catch a shuttle to the Snow Monkey Park immediately after breakfast the next morning. - After you leave the ryokan, they will take your luggage down to the coffee shop opposite the station, so you don’t need to worry about those logistics. - Trains from Yudanaka back to Nagano leave at 12:30 and 15:30. - The ryokan itself has several private onsens that you can reserve for a 45-minute slot. Because the onsens are on the property, you can go in with your partner or travel companions regardless of gender. It’s a boutique hotel, so you don’t have to worry about not getting access to all the onsens you want. - The ryokan is on the main road of the Shibu Onsen town. The hotel will give you a key so you can wonder down the main road, visiting any of the public onsens you wish - however, with so many gorgeous and more private onsens in the hotel itself, you probably won’t have time or the desire for this. - Also, there is a coffee machine in the room! (I was worried about having to survive without coffee, and this turned out to be an unfounded concern). We had an incredible and totally indulgent time at Kokuya. Experiencing a traditional ryokan is a privilege that you should try at least once if you can. And adding the Snow Monkeys in give the trip a double purpose, making it that much more memorable. The only thing that would have made the trip better is if we had been allowed to linger longer over every course of our dinner.
Hakuba Mominoki Hotel

the impressive property to accommodate for the winter season around Hakuba Mountain. the hotel room is traditional in Japan Style and perfectly in a comfortable size for a couple or family of 4 person including all amenities with refrigerator and water kettle to taste their inclusive green tea in the room. the hotel shuttle bus is very accommodated for the guest who might be missed the public transportation outside the time schedule which the guest would call the hotel for the shuttle bus to be picked up any place around the hotel property any times. the best services are at the selections of breakfast and dinner which can choose lots of restaurant to be in the hotel property and might need the reservation at some restaurants. If the guest would come for the winter sport without own equipment, the store is next door of this hotel property to be able providing all services; the rental, the set up and the wax for all types of winter equipment to be ready before heading up to Hakuba Mountain any times.

The location is accessible from the Kanto region to the central road Iida Yamamoto IC and from the Nagoya area to the sonohara IC in 10 minutes. It was late 11, so I thought of safety and installed a snow tire and visited. The hotel lends mat and cold clothes for starry sky observation for a fee. There are many inn and each accommodation plan in this hot spring village. There was also a plan with a starry sky tour in this hotel. I applied for a starry sky tour from the inn. The number of tours is limited because you use the gondola to the place to observe. Unfortunately, I entered the hot spring that canceled the tour of the cloudy sky. I decided to look forward to the next starry sky because it was a thick cloud that gradually saw the moon from the open-air bath. The room and hot springs were clean. The next morning, the windshield was frost, so I parked the car in the direction of Asahi. The hotel's accommodation plan allows you to book a mountain hut-like light use, a luxurious meal plan and additional dishes in advance.
Nakanoyu Onsen Ryokan
4.3/514 Reviews
The Ryokan was remote and far from other things. We had car so that's good for us. If you don't, then you need to prepare how to commute. The dinner and breakfast were super good! the Ryokan has space to relax and enjoy, even though the room may be relatively small. Bus for the national park leave at 8 and 9 and you need to take the public bus back to the bus stop near the Ryokan. Public bus leave every 15 minutes. ends around 4pm so please check schedule ahead. The staff was caring but not so good at English except one lady that speaks fluently. So depend on her shift.

We stayed here at the end of our time in Japan as a treat and for the traditional Japanese inn / onsen experience and we certainly weren’t disappointed. The room was huge and the seating area was seamlessly converted for sleeping by the hotel staff while we ate our dinner. The food was traditional Japanese with seemingly endless small plates of delicacies (a similar story at breakfast). The onsen was fabulous - we used it 3 times in the one night we were there and loved it. All in all a great experience and lovely place to stay.
The Prince Karuizawa

The front desk 竹村, on June 18th 10:50, she told us there’s no pick up service after check out (there is), without offering any assistance to deliver our bags to the station. We feel that the staffs are poorly trained when it comes to the hotel facility nor their communication skills. The hotel itself is highly enjoyable especially the hot spring! Everything is brand new and the surroundings are epic! I’m sorry to have to minus one star because of 竹村’s poor reaction to customers’ requests.
Onyado Nono Matsumoto Natural Hot Spring

I have always liked this brand of hotel. I used to have the most rice. This time I made a special trip to stay at this high-end hotel. I really like his tatami. It feels very Japanese, clean and hygienic. I really like this style! The breakfast is delicious and rich. We purchased it separately. It costs 2,300 yen on site. This price is also very reasonable! The room is not bad, and the hot spring is also very good. I will continue to live here if I have a chance in the future!
Biwaike Hotel

We had a lovely experience at biwaike Hotel. It's a ski in and out and very conveniently located near the sun valley bus stop which helps if you are travelling with luggages. Check in was straight forward. Mr Tokutake who runs the small hotel was very gracious allowing us to get our ski equipment quickly. Passes were easy to get depending on the number of days you plan to ski and the area you want to ski in. Dinner and breakfast were delicious and after a long day skiing, it was wonderful to soak in the onsen that apparently is filled with natural spring water. The room itself is adequate, very big, the futons were comfortable enough. The room was well heated and there are vending machines downstairs to get drinks as well as a small convenience store to get instant noodles, ice cream and snacks. So happy with my experience there :) the team was gracious, hospitable and we couldn't have asked for anything more.
Courtyard by Marriott Hakuba
4.5/552 Reviews
We stayed here for 2 nights in July. The hotel and rooms are clean and comfortable. The lack of vegetarian / vegan food options was disappointing considering this is a Marriott Hotel. The resteraunt may not be theirs, but still expected better. The staff were very helpful, although the hotel shuttle to drop us to the station was only available for a 30 minute timeslot in the morning. Strange, but not a problem. Location is good, still has a feel that it could be a lot better by just making small improvements. Its the details that matter, at least that is why we booked Marriott. Still, we would stay here again (and maybe bring our own food).
Karuizawa Marriott Hotel

Our stay at the hotel was great! Being a Marriott Bonvoy member allowed us a nice upgrade for our room. Onsite staff spoke English very well. The room was very orderly and spacious. Also, this Marriott was one of the few hotels I have been to that had the room allergy ready when I told them I was allergic to feathers on the reservation. The free beverages (beer, wine, cocktails, juice, and soda) and hot meals during the membership lounge time were nice. The public bath was very clean and relaxing. The management team went above and beyond! We asked the doorman to arrange a taxi to get to a local restaurant. Instead, he worked with the assistant manager, who told us he would personally drive us to the restaurant (even included a return trip!) The breakfast buffet was excellent and had both American and Japanese fare. I will recommend this hotel to any of my friends or family who visit the area.
