"⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Hard 5/5! As a girl travelling solo for the first time, I felt very safe staying and had a lot of fun. Even though it’s a hostel, the environment was comfortable and welcoming. The hostel also offers transportation services to certain attractions and activities, making it very convenient for travellers. The location is excellent — being right next to Chunxi Road meant I could easily explore the city, try local food, and enjoy the area on foot. A special shoutout to the front desk staff, who were incredibly friendly and always happy to recommend places to visit. Their English was excellent as well, which made communication very easy. I would highly recommend this hostel to international travellers. If I visit Chengdu again, I would definitely choose to stay here again! ❤️✨"

"It is very close to Dujiangyan South Bridge. There is a restaurant on the ground floor, so it is a good place to eat. When traveling to an unfamiliar place, there are so many things you don't know. However, the host provided travel information, even about the smallest details, which was very helpful. The entrance looks a bit shabby, but once you go inside, although the facilities are old, they are neatly organized."

Housed in a 30-year-old building, the hostel blends traditional Sichuan folk-style architecture with vibrant ethnic decor. Though compact, it boasts unique charm, featuring various themed nooks, an outdoor garden, and a rooftop terrace—perfect spaces to unwind after a day of travel. Operated by backpackers for backpackers, the hostel offers tailored services including Wi-Fi, self-service laundry, bike rentals, a book-sharing library, communal activities like hot pot dinners, dumpling-making sessions, and craft workshops, as well as travel consultations and tour bookings. If you love traveling, you’ll feel right at home in this traveler’s sanctuary.

"I had a private room on the rooftop. Pros: the rooms are pretty clean and the bedding is clean. The bathrooms are separate and shared use, but the set-up of the ladies bathrooms is good, the shower area is private and you have your own space to change. The hostel organises a lot of group activities, so u can meet ppl if u wish Cons: the beds are hard and mattresses are thin. You will not be able to sleep on them. I ended up taking the doona from one bed and putting it on top of the other, and still struggled to sleep. Being on the rooftop, each room has chairs outside to sit and chill, this means that people come back at 2, 3, 5am or whatever and sit and talk/drink, and the sound goes right through the thin windows/doors. "After checking in at the front desk, you can store your luggage and shoes, pick up slippers and your room card, then head to your room. **Facilities:** There's a lounge area, dining area, balcony, and a bar where you can choose to have dinner in the evening. **Accommodation:** The lodging is separated by gender. The women's section has independent washing machines, dryers, garment steamers, and a vanity room. The vanity room even has curling irons and straighteners! Each bed has its own locker that can be opened with your room card. The room also has a full-length mirror. The bed is incredibly comfortable, and the air conditioning keeps it wonderfully cool. There were even candies by the bedside. It truly feels perfect for women – safe, comfortable, and even smells nice! For dinner, you can choose to eat with everyone and play board games; it's quite lively! The cat has good boundaries. If you pet it, it'll play with you, but if you don't touch it, it'll keep its distance 🥰"

"Facilities: This hostel is well-equipped with electric blankets, WiFi, and hot water. Cleanliness: The shared bathrooms are cleaned daily, and the rooms are spotless, with linens changed after every guest. Service: The owner is an experienced hiker, a passionate storyteller, and even a talented dancer! He's incredibly warm and welcoming, making you feel right at home. He's also a great cook and might even whip up a meal for you. If you're planning a trek, you can arrange transportation through him; it's 60 per person for a pick-up, and you won't have trouble finding companions for routes like the Pasture, C+V, or Glacier treks. After several days on Mount Genyen, a hot meal is pure bliss! If you're cold, he'll start a fire for you and check if you're experiencing altitude sickness. When the conversation flows, he'll encourage you to pursue your dreams, offering genuine support from a stranger. You simply must experience Genyen. Don't be afraid, and don't consider your soul's deepest desires taboo. Live out these dreams, enact them, and build altars for them."

I chose this hostel for my trip to Chengdu, and my stay far exceeded my expectations. The location is truly unbeatable. It's very close to the metro station, within walking distance, making it super convenient to get to Wenshu Monastery and all the major city attractions. Getting around was a breeze, and it's great value for money. I had a very comfortable stay. The room was clean and tidy, and the overall environment was quiet and peaceful, perfect for a good rest after a long day of exploring. The amenities were also very thoughtful, with a laundry room and a gym, which was incredibly practical for washing clothes and getting some exercise during my trip. The biggest surprise was the public area on the ground floor. By day, it's a quiet cafe, and by night, it transforms into a bar with a fantastic atmosphere. There are even live singers performing in the evenings – the 'cafe by day, bar by night' concept was right up my alley. Sitting down to listen to music and have a drink melted away a lot of my travel fatigue. I also met many travelers from different places here, including quite a few international guests. Everyone chatted about their travel experiences, and the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. Overall, my experience was fantastic. It's suitable for both solo travelers and those with friends. I honestly recommend it to anyone visiting Chengdu.

The hostel was in a great location, near the metro and chunxi road. The bed was comfortable and you have a locker that you can unlock with your room key. However, the bathrooms were FILTHY. I stayed for 4 nights and every day and every night it was dirty ( counter full of things, old toothpaste tubes, wate splashed everywhere), toilets with overflowing bins ( squat toilets only) and smelly... Was cheap so can't complain too much but probably wouldn't stay here again. Seems to be mostly a chinese crowd who stays there long term as I was the only foreigner there my whole stay.

The room was very satisfying, and the hygiene was excellent. I'm not sure if the bedding is changed for every guest, but overall it was clean, tidy, and odorless. The mattress and the four-piece bedding set were of high quality, making it feel very cozy and comfortable. The other guests were also very considerate, trying to keep noise to a minimum, and any sounds were very faint. I usually don't dare to stay alone, but I was able to sleep soundly every night I was there.

Chengdu XiangPi Inn

8.7/10
Posted on Apr 26, 2026

I stayed at Chengdu XiangPi Inn for one night (April 14–15, 2026) and booked a bed in the 6-person male-only shared room. Overall, it was a solid budget-friendly option, but there are a few things worth noting depending on what you’re looking for. The biggest plus is definitely the price—you get exactly what you pay for, and for a short stay it does the job. The room itself was fairly basic but functional. The bed was decent enough for one night, and the space didn’t feel overly cramped despite having multiple occupants. That said, privacy is minimal, as expected in a shared dorm setup. Cleanliness was okay, though not perfect. The shared bathroom was usable but could have been maintained a bit better, especially during busier hours. If you’re particular about hygiene, this is something to keep in mind. The atmosphere was quiet enough when I stayed, and most guests were respectful, which made it easier to rest. Staff interactions were limited but smooth—check-in and check-out were straightforward without any issues. Overall, Chengdu XiangPi Inn is a practical choice if you’re traveling on a tight budget and just need a place to sleep for a night or two. It’s not luxurious, but it’s functional and reasonably comfortable for short stays.
