Now I know why their current rates are discounted so much. I might have missed something when I was booking it online but the pool was still under construction so no pool-and also construction noise-even a little on the weekend though when I checked in on a Friday the manager who had no accent at all (aka-used to living in the US) said there would be no construction noise over the weekend ”as far as she knew”-which was not true. There was noise-just not saws and hammers. Also when I was checking in, I asked, as I always do, does the wifi really actually work since I didn't know C. Caulker and need to be able to research restaurants and activities. The front desk person said yes it was good. Not true. Could not even connect to a website. My girlfriend and I had already unpacked. They did move us to another, slightly larger room AFTER this they actually had the gall to suggest I just use the open air restaurant area without any AC in the high heat. This room was below a second floor room so we had to listen to someone walk around at night in that unit and the wifi was OK-only good enough to browse but not stream anything. After the move, the TV worked but not the volume-they never solved that issue during our 3 day stay-and I just gave up after that. Oh and the mini fridge didn't work-they finally fixed that on our second morning there. Further, the hotel abuts upon a local cemetery next to the beach and since it is not maintained the piles of sargassum sea****'s stench drifts all over their grounds-not pleasant at all-perhaps their staff could maintain it daily instead since they have skin in the game here and it would take a staffer probably about 30 mins. a day to remove the sargassum from the front of the cemetery at the sea like they do in front of their hotel. Further, on our second morning, I asked about why they hadn't cleaned our room after we went out for the day after our first morning. They said they don't do it unless we asked-of course they never told me in advance I needed to do this. Priceless. Otherwise the rooms were clean though spartan though with unmatching fixtures (the wall light sconces above the beds, for example, were nice and modern in the first room we had to abandon due to the wifi but the ones in the second were old and ugly). Finally, the location is bad. It is south of the water taxi pier. The best part of the Caye is north of that-this was my first time on Caye Caulker so lesson learned. In short, I would recommend looking for a hotel in that area and definitely NOT stay at this place.
Anchorage Beach Resort Caye Caulker

Where to start about this Anchorage resort.. first off the listing shows the property close to the split if you look at the star on the map. It is literally the furthest resort away from the split. Totally disappointed when we first showed up. We got the and low and behold they couldn't find our reservations. Ended up putting us in a room that hadn't been cleaned yet with towels and bed unmade. We got a new room that was 2 twin beds instead of a king bed because they didn't clean it and everyone went home.. we rented bikes from there for our first night only for the bike to break down on my with the pedal bearings falling out and the chain to not stay on more than 3 pedals. Had to walk it back from the split. Talked to one of the guys in charge the night before we left and he said he would give us a ride to the airport for money. Our flight was at 715am. He said he would meet us outside at 630. We waited until 640 before we ended up having to walk us and our luggage to the airport.. got to my parents house that live in the reserve belize and realized I forgot my money bag under the mattress in the room bc you definately dont want to leave anything out. Contacted the manager and let him know. He said they are cleaning the room now(11am) and if they don't find it he will go up and find it and ship it to dangriga. Called later at 2pm and he said call back in the morning to make sure it shipped. Called back in the morning for him to say oh they didn't find anything under the mattress. Someone else has stayed in there now so they might have taken it.. nothing they can do about it. It was our responsibility and our fault. I agree but at the time I called. 11am and 2pm he easily could have found it and also said to call back in the morning to make sure it shipped. $1000 cash in a money bag. I would have given this place zero stars if I could. Proposed to my now fiancè on our stay and was super disappointed to bring her back to this place. 100% would never recommend..
Jan's Hotel

I am so pleased with my choice to stay at Jan’s place. It is small, cute and clean and affordable. It provides everything you need which isnt much when you are visiting Caye caulker. It it literally located in the mix of it all. Just a 5 min walk and you are at the split where all the action happens. Right across the street is the best street lobster vendor on the Island. Bike rentals are only a block away and a few steps away is a private quiet space for Jans guest to relax and take in the beautiful view. Oh and the rooftop is perfect for a morning cup or coffee or evening cocktail. If I come back to Caye caulker I will definitely be staying at Jan’s place.
