This place is actually an old motel that has clearly gone bankrupt and still tries to get naive customers to a trap. It smells of mold, there is no shower ( just a broken whirlpool ), there is no maintenance and the staff is clearly unwilling to look after the guests. To make it worse - if possible - they tried to cheat Booking pretending I was not there ( although I have my credit cards statements to prove ) just not to pay their commission. When I wrote this on the Booking review the owner was extremely impolite and aggressive , as his plote was denounced. Honestly, it makes no sense staying there even if it was for free. Run away from this joint!!

Impeccable stay at Utopian Hotels. From the second you walk in, you feel like you’re home. The Hotel and Rooms Utopian is located in a beautifully restored Portuguese home that still has some of its most beautiful original elements. The hotel is filled with beautiful artisanal furniture and a great selection of art and photography. The rooms are cozy and have all the amenities you need for a trip in Porto. Every detail was thought of. The rooms all have a FREE minibar filled with snacks and drinks for their guests to enjoy - such a treat - and the common area has a beautiful coffee machine with games and books to enjoy. Great Location Ideally located a short walk away from all the best restaurants and boutiques in Porto in a beautiful quiet neighbourhood, making you feel like a local! This place feels like a hidden gem and made my trip to Porto perfect.

It's really the best... First of all, it's just the best. The location is close to the subway station and the supermarket, and I can feel that they put a lot of thought into the interior of the room. There's also an elevator, so I could easily move my luggage. The service is also hotel-level. They cleaned the room, provided water and towels, and prepared a welcome drink. The heater was on so I stayed warm, and they even helped me with the laundry. They even distributed white and black clothes. I was very impressed, the owner was very kind and spoke English. If possible, if you go to Porto, be sure to stay here!

Struttura abbastanza centrale che ci ha consentito di girare a piedi tutta Porto. La reception è sempre attiva e per farti ripulire la stanza devi lasciare le chiavi alla reception. La camera è pulita così come gli asciugamani vengono cambiati tutti i giorni. Personale molto gentile. Anche il phone è su richiesta. Portatevi il bagnoschiuma perché la struttura mette a disposizione bustine di shampoo e sapone per mani. Non c'è areazione in bagno, né aria condizionata ma troverete una stufetta. Non c'è l'ascensore. Tutto sommato una struttura niente male per chi non ha tante pretese.

I stayed at The Gate in Porto for two nights. It's in a great location, the staff is friendly and helpful and the facility is sparkling clean and comfortable. I even had a little Juliet balcony to enjoy a glass of wine before heading out for dinner. It's close to the train station and easy to hail cabs and just walk around and explore.

We were offered two rooms. We took the one where the wi-fi worked better. The staff was wonderful, immediately helped us with the search for a ATM (accompanied to it) where the union PAY card would work, TK it works in single ATMs. At any time of day and night you can drink coffee or tea, always ready a teapot with hot water. The cleanliness is perfect, every day cleaning and changing towels and lingerie. If we find Porto again, we will definitely stay in this hotel

The staff were great. Friendly and professional. Always responded to messages in a timely manner. Price is quite low. It did the job for a friend's trip where budget and expectations are on the lower side...but...one of the beds in our room was broken and the fix had been to put a block of wood underneath, which didn't particularly work well and provided a rough night of sleep. The lock on our door was basically hanging off the door when we arrived but they did fix it the next day . We shared a locked area with one other room so we weren't too worried about security but it's always a thought. Worse was the smell in our room area. Not sure if it was the plumbing in the shared bathroom but it was bad enough to sleep with the windows open and be happy we only had 2 nights there. Not sure I'd stay again even on a buddy trip. The price is great but I'd opt for an upgrade next time around.

20-21/6/22 We three Brits were starting our ten days in Portugal by flying into Porto from Luton. We had booked this guest house on b.c the day before. Unfortunately our flight left two hours late so one of us messaged the owner from Luton to say we would be arriving after midnight. They responded quickly giving us instructions to get in using the key box under the bell and on to our room 104. After catching an 11:30 light railway from the airport direct to Trinidade terminus, walking a few hundred metres we arrived at 12:30. We got in easily through the double front door after following the instructions. Once in we were exhausted, there was no going out as all the bars were well closed or about to close! The room was mostly white, smart, modern, fresh, clean and crisp. A wall mounted 24inch LED TV and A/C unit were provided, controls in the bedside drawer. The shower-room was a small step up from the room level with a pile of clean towels, toiletries and a hair drier. The main room had a fitted unit wardrobe with six coat hangers and spare blankets. The parallel double and single beds were firm and comfortable with clean sheets. Each bed had a reading light above. A shelf/table unit was by the double glazed window. Two bedside tables were provided with only one socket by the double bed. Another socket was opposite the single bed. Luckily I brought extension leads for this often found scenario so we could charge our various devices. We relaxed and caught up on socials using the free wifi. The night was disturbance free and we slept well. In the morning the shower was hot and powerful. The taps were designed to easily make a jet to clean out a razor. A hair dryer was next to the socket. Lighting was controlled from outside the door so technically safe. One thing that caught me during a night loo visit was the step to shower-room when all was dark! Ooops. Take care! I found on entering the room from outside I could not get into room when the shower-room door was open as they crashed and jammed together. There was a set of over-door hooks in the shower-room to hang clothes but it would also be better if there was a set of hooks on the wall between main door and the shower-room door as it was a dead space and not in anyone's way. It does rain outside and coats and jackets need drying out. In the morning we checked out before noon and saw the restaurant and garden for breakfast, long finished. We do not usually do breakfast but it looked like the traditional continental breakfast including ham and cheese for €5. We also were exhausted after the late delayed flight arriving very late and not knowing about late night connections into the centre. We slept late so would have missed the breakfast anyway. We checked out, paying our €2 city tax in cash to the friendly concierge/owner who was a little disappointed we did not stay more than one night. Unfortunately we had only booked it for our arrival night in Portugal and had to move on. A

The guesthouse is very clean. It is in the center off all in the town. Near the Douro, the metro, the train station . You can discover Porto easily. You have all the supermarket or pastry all around the house. My room.is like a room in an hotel. You have elevator. It is easy to live and discover Porto from this hotel.

We were aware prior to our arrival that Reception would be closed so we rang the number provided as we left the airport and the owner had arranged for someone else to be there to greet us. However, the lady spoke very little English (and we speak no Portugese) so check-in was lengthy and difficult as she was using Google translate. It was not the best first impression and having read more reviews on our return home, we clearly missed out by not having the personal experience at check-in and missed some information eg cooked option at breakfast! Our room (with garden access and balcony) had lovely high ceilings, it was clean and the bed was very comfortable but the facilities were very basic. The air conditioning unit was not working on our arrival so the first night was unbearably hot (it was repaired the following day after reporting it to the owner) but there were no dials to change the temperature - it was set low but I would have preferred the room to be cooler. There was no safe in the room which we expect as standard to be able to store our passports etc securely. There was no storage ie chest of drawers or wardrobe - there was a wire with coathangers at the back of the built-in bathroom. Any noise from the bathroom could be heard in the bedroom and the shower was tiny (although pressure was good). There was a luggage rack for the suitcase. The kettle was on a small desk which had no socket nearby so it had to be boiled on either of the bedside tables. There was no fridge so drinks were not chilled and no option to have milk in our tea. Breakfast - the continental was varied and tasty but we were not aware that there was a cooked option. 8-10am did not work for us - too late for our day trip to the Douro Valley (first morning) so only ate breakfast on day 2. We were provided with a couple of pastries and carton of orange juice for day 3 as we had an early flight. Overall we expect our holiday accommodation to be better than home and this room was not up to standard - it was underwhelming and disappointing.

We stayed two nights in this hotel. The style is retro, but with touches of modernity, I found it aestheticly nice. As the lift is not a little uncomfortable for the baggage. The staff were very friendly and friendly 😀 The triple room was quite date and not very spacious. The air conditioner was a little complicated to light (the remote control had no batteries compartment. The batteries were kept with scotch 😅). The small but functional bathroom. The washing machine was lost and I personally had difficulty washing because the spoon shower sets consist of 10ml bags each.... You should buy a spoon shower. I found it very good! There were traditional and handicrafted sweets, not the usual packed things. And always supplied. We personally did not enjoy their parking because on the front road, even 100 metres I believe, we found non-payment parking. I see many free parkings in the area 😁 as others say is very comfortable with the metro stop.

Although they say on booking that the check-in is made in the afternoon, we called at 8 a.m. and the lady who answered us, even though she did not speak Italian or English, a little Spanish knew it. We were agreed and made the entrance in the morning after an hour, and when we arrived at the hotel we found a sweet old lady (the lady we made a phone call) and surprised when we went up to the room. A upgrade from one room with single beds one above the other. To a beautiful marriage at the latest floor under the roof. The very clean and quiet room. We enjoyed a deserving rest after walking under rain. At check-out the beautiful lady of the building at three o'clock and go to the reception to greet us. Excellent WiFi. Thanks and next 🙏

They were responsive to my emails prior to my arrival. My flight was delayed in Porto and arrived around 1 am when there was a staff waiting for me upon arrival (24 reception). I'd say the room was enough for me, essentials were provided such as shampoo, and body wash. The room is cleaned every day. The hotel is quite a walk from the old town though (20-30mins), and going back it is a really steepy hill so I'd advise to wear comfy shoes if you're walking to/from the hotel. Although there is a bus stop nearby and Ubers are relatively cheap. Breakfast wise- there is no hot food but you get your bread, fruit, yoghurt (continental breakfast). The staff were very helpful during my stay- very hospitable!! i would book again here to stay if I was in Porto.

Location was perfect, far enough away from the busy city centre but still convenient for cool bars, restaurants etc. Our room was perfect, beautiful decor, very comfortable bed and private access to the gorgeous garden. Staff couldn't be more helpful with advice of where to visit in and around Porto. Sara in particular was delightful - so friendly, nothing was too much trouble for her and she made the most delicious omelettes in the morning! The restaurant food was amazing, we ate there twice during our stay for dinner. Will definitely stay here again when we visit Porto.
