Bowness Bay Suites

1. The location of the hotel is very good. It takes only 10 minutes to walk to the cruise ship terminal. There are many restaurants nearby and the accommodation is very convenient. The room is large and there is a living room, unexpected, but the living room side is on the bedside, next to the street, sooner or later, some noisy, especially the UK speed is generally faster, pay attention to it. Breakfast is prepared in advance bread yogurt cereal milk, some in the refrigerator, some in the locker, do not have too much expectations. 2. If you come by car, you will need a parking card with the front desk, which costs £3 a day. There are unlimited parking. There are several places to park. It is actually very convenient. When you leave, you can go to the parking lot to drive first, and put the key and parking card at the front desk when you come back.
Lake View Country House

Great hotel with a decent location in the middle of the Lake District. You can walk/ cycle to Ambleside which is 5 miles away. Low fells are easy to hike for great views of the area around. The hotel is more like a private house with rooms. We got a small suite with bedroom, bathroom and living room. We could just about see the lake from the living room. The bathroom only has a bath and no shower head which was a difficulty for washing hair. Except for that it was very well organised. Breakfast was at a nearby pub - The Good Sport. It was a limited selection on the menu: full English, breakfast rolls, toast or porridge. You also got a 10% for dinner in the pub too.

The hotel has a beautiful environment. Although the place is not large, there is free parking for us to drive. It is very convenient. It only takes about 5 minutes to drive to The World of Beatrix Potter and Bowness Pie ~
Crow Park Hotel

We ere on a hiking trip and due to the weather had to make a diversion to Keswick for an overnight stop. We made the reservation via one of the many platforms available in this digital age. We arrived in our full wet weather gear and the first question was “you need to pay £6 to pay in my carpark”, we all looked at each other and then back at the receptionist and asked “does it look like we’ve arrived by car?”. We then got a lot of moaning about how bad the digital platforms are and some obscenities about them being fatherless. The rooms we were allocated were very dated and one was just inappropriate. When we asked to change that room it was a price increase immediately! But it was a portion a storm!

Good bits: our suite was very nice and the breakfast food on offer was good even though you had to come down at a prearranged timeslot. The bad is that the overall management of this hotel, in our experience, was very poor. There were multiple occasions (in just 2 days) when what was arranged and agreed was just not acted upon. Here's some examples: On arrival a member of staff kindly reserved a breakfast table for 4 the following morning (as we were staying with another couple) but it was taken by somebody else when we came down so we had to assume this information wasn't passed to the breakfast team. We then arranged for seating for 5 people at breakfast the following morning - different staff member said that was fine and made a note of the room numbers - yet again this wasn't done and when we asked them to make up an unoccupied table set up for 4 to a 5 (plenty of room to add another chair ) this was refused. Weeks before arriving our friends had asked for their room to be set up as a twin rather than a double but of course that hadn't been done either. We asked for our room not to be serviced during our 2 night stay yet the first morning staff knocked to come in when my partner was on the toilet - again relevant details not passed on. We were told we had reserved parking spot at the rear of the property but parking was a free-for-all. The reception area seemed to be locked up and unmanned most of the time. Yes, there was a bell to ring, but you'd expect a member of staff to be visible especially in the mornings. Finally, whilst most staff were friendly and polite, one senior staff member was off-hand when dealing with a simple request (and we overheard her being brusque with another couple). Her attitude was unpleasant and gave the impression that customers were really a bit of a nuisance. Maybe we just picked a bad weekend so whilst it wasn't a totally awful stay by any means there was enough incidents over a short period to put us off staying there again or recommending it to anyone if it continues to be run in this slack and unprofessional way. I do worry for its future.
Abbey House B & B
4.6/545 Reviews
We really enjoyed our stay at Abbey House. The B&B was lovely and clean and our room was very quiet. The owner also gave us some great recommendations for places to visit for dinner. Our full English Breakfast (included in the price) was excellent too. I highly recommend this B&B to anyone who is thinking of staying in Penrith and it's an excellent choice for anyone wishing to travel to the nearby Lake District.
Norcroft Guest House
4.6/557 Reviews
At Norcroft Mark and Paula offer welcoming and comfortable accommodation with a seamless efficiency. Some of furnishings and decor may be a little dated, but they have only been there for 3 months. The rooms are very clean and comfortable and you won't get better value. Mark went above and beyond to accommodate my unpredictable work schedule during my time in Cumbria. On the first night when I arrived late, Paula's homemade muffin was a lovely touch and exactly what I didn't realise I needed. On the day I checked out, I ended up working later than expected, so I messaged Mark to see if they could accommodate me for an extra night. They were full, but late at night and with less than an hour's notice, they prepared a room they don't normally let out. Proper customer service at it's finest! Breakfast is pre-ordered, vegetarian only and served in your room. I did miss my bacon initially, but the breakfast was so delicious that I soon forgot about bacon. Compared to the usual awkward shuffle around a buffet that has been sitting out for ages, I really enjoyed how relaxed and civilised it was to have a freshly cooked breakfast at the table in the comfort of my room. I would not hesitate to recommend Norcroft for a personal, thoughtful and great value place to stay in the Penrith area. Thanks again Mark and Paula for putting up with me with such care!
Victorian House
4.4/548 Reviews
We stayed for just one night as booked up and the reason why is it a wonderful gem, forget small B@B this is like staying in on trend boutique hotel - the house is beautiful with perfectly chosen decor and art. Immaculate bedroom and bathroom and fab white quality bedding. Pre loved antique furniture and decor . All staff were lovely and friendly making you feel at home. Breakfast in conservatory was great with big selection of cold and hot food and lots of space between tables so that you felt comfortable . Victoria House deserves ongoing success as it is a perfect , value for money place to stay in a usually expensive Grasmere - thank you
The Roadhouse Hotel
2.9/558 Reviews
The staff were very friendly, room & beds were clean but a little sp**** & needing some renovation. The breakfast was lovely, plentiful & made to order, choice of cereal, toast, cooked breakfast, tea & coffee. The only downside was the boom booming of the music from the bar going on to the early hours.
Latimer House
4.2/556 Reviews
This house was built in 1850. This house can be checked in through a password. The bed is soft and comfortable, the room is very warm, and the hot water is sufficient. It is a little bit far from the railway station, but very close to the lake. A good trip experience!
