Casa de Campo Resort & Villas
4.6/552 Reviews
I used to own a villa in Casa de Campo and sold it 11 years ago...(sadly). Anyhow I live in Boston and was visiting my friend/business partner in Santiago. She always wanted to visit Casa de Campo, so I booked us and her 15 year old daughter a two night get-away. Unfortunately, it was from Monday to Wednesday and the place was somewhat dead. Very few people. The shoppes in the hotel were closed, which was a bit disappointing. Nonetheless, we took our golf cart to Alto de Chavon and had a lovely time. We also went to the Marina on Monday evening and it was sadly, like a ghost town. Lesson learned: Book stays at Casa de Campo beginning on a Thursday, when visitors come for a long weekend. As for the food, we only ate by the pool bar and the food and drink were perfectly fine! Casa de Campo is still is beautiful, accommodating, filled with kind and helpful employees, has a great gym and pool, and the rooms are immaculate.
Hilton Garden Inn La Romana
4/520 Reviews
5 nights stay in this newly opened Hilton property. Highlights: Beautiful pool. Very clean hotel. Rooms are modern. My stay was quiet with little to no other guest noise from other rooms or people outside my room. Location was near the excursions my wife and I wanted to do. Staff is attentive and offered help when asked. Checkin and check out was correct and easy. Morning breakfast was a mix of local breakfast items and typical North American style breakfast buffet items. Cold fridge in the room Big bathroom Beautiful view of ocean from ocean facing room from the 2nd floor room we had. Recognized my status and gave me a room upgrade and daily food credit for being Hilton Honors Gold. We were the only people at the pool on a beautiful sunny afternoon day. This is a plus for me. Entire Staff was incredibly friendly to us our entire stay. Room A/C worked perfectly the entire stay. Things to consider before staying here. Hotel is not in a tourist area yet, its location is in a developing neighborhood. In my opinion. On call taxi service on site provided by hotel staff. The cost of a taxi from hotel is a bit more than the rate of local taxis. No stores or convenience stores next to location. Speaking and understanding at least a few key words in Spanish will help you navigate the hotel and surrounding area of La Romana. A few staff members spoke English. Hotel is inside a gated area with 24hr security guards. My wife and I bought lunch and had a few local beers at the hotel. Food was good, the prices plus tax were reasonable and comparable to an average restaurant visit in the United States. Meal cost around $45 USD with tax. No beach access, just pool. Extra Information: La Romana the city (not the cruise port) is a busy buzzing active community lots with people walking, motorcycles everywhere, a few stay dogs and lots of bodegas. Supermercado Jumbo is the major grocery store in La Romana. We went to the Multiplaza La Romana (mall) One afternoon. It’s a 10 min taxi ride from hotel. It has a few stores and a store that reminded us of Target in the U.S. Our Opinion: This hotel for the reasonable room price met all of our needs and expectations. The pool is beautiful and hotel is extremely clean. The food is great. My guess this hotel will grow in popularity over the next few years. It’s not a resort or all inclusive but it is a good place to stay in a tropical island in the Caribbean along the ocean.
