Ramada by Wyndham Campbell River

The worst Ramada I've ever stayed in. An absolute dump! I should know, I paid for seven nights and every night I regretted my choice. Take a look at the photos, this demonstrates what we had to live with to try and make the heat bearable. Why so hot, the beds are located in a loft. All the heat collects up in the sleeping space, and little portable fans do absolutely nothing to cool things down. We had to sleep on top of the sheets in our underwear. Get used to sweating all night! The hotel staff refused to fix the AC. The first two days I asked three different staff if someone could fix it, only to be told that none of the AC works in the hotel. Bizarrely, when challenged that my friend two room doors down had AC, the staff members refused to acknowledge it as real. When I told them his room number, they still claimed that none of the rooms had AC. Talking to other guests, some had AC, some didn't. The ones that didn't were told nobody in the hotel had AC. This meant our patio door had to stay open all night long. So we got to enjoy adjoining rooms smoking on their balconies, which meant that as non-smokers we got stuck with second-hand smoke everyday and throughout the night. Other guests drinking and swearing on their patios, they might as well be doing it right inside your open doored room. Further, the hotel faces onto a busy highway, so all day and all night you get smashed with traffic noise. Half of the wall sockets don't work. The breakfast is mediocre at best. The staff aren't empowered to address any of the issues. Because the hotel is 50yrs old, it's dirty, worn-out, carpets and furniture are filthy, the bathroom is nasty, cleaning staff are absent on the weekends, etc, etc, and etc. I travel a lot. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone, even if it only cost $5 per night. Sadly I paid over $200 per night. Ramada, your should be absolutely ashamed of yourselves! Room 314 Jul 10-17, 2023

The apartment hotel run by the Korean couple is super clean and has first-class service. The hotel is right by the river and the scenery is great, especially sitting on the huge balcony and drinking coffee is really a treat. On the first afternoon of our stay, I saw a black bear on the balcony. I thought there should be bears because there are many fish in the river. As a result, I was surprised when I chatted with the uncle of Korea 😱. Another bonus point is the sauna in the room

It was a great place to stay. On the 2nd floor we could watch the cruise ships and boats go by. It was really clean and roomy and the bed was really comfortable. The owners were really helpful with our room and we were able to be next doo rto our friends traveling with us..

It’s a bit of a curates egg. The grounds are beautiful and the initial appearance of the hotel itself with its large foyer and Resturant overlooking the river are of a high end four star establishment. It has a marina office offering fishing and other trips and a large boat dock as well as plenty of parking near to the rooms. Our problems started with a receptionist who struggled with both English and French. So sorting out issues was difficult. This service improved later in our stay and at the end received a cheery goodbye. We were handed a paper with a statement about their Wyndham Green eco policy (which seemed to us an attempt to justify the limited room service). In this regard it operates like a motel with limited room servicing (every three days), and a cardboard cup each! The maintenance of the builds and rooms is poor with damaged roofs left unrepaired and ripped felt on the walkways. The rooms were a good size and serviceable, but rather dated and they could certainly do with a refresh. The room does have WiFi, a working kettle and coffee machine (and a noisy fridge which we turned off a night). The bathroom had a horrible clingy shower curtain and very tired bathmat (which we discarded). There was no plug for the bath but the shower was good but we found hair in the outlet. The ocean view was fine - marginally compromised by the riverfront building (whose rooms probably offer the best views). It’s also very quiet despite being busy with overnighters. We did not use the restaurant. One night the foyer was monopolised by a noisy extended family so we kept away.

We had a couple of nights here either side of a camping trip. While dated in style, our rooms were clean and in good decorative order, with newish looking bathrooms. We had fantastic views over Discovery Passage, and even saw a humpback whale passing! They have additional equipment in reception that you can ask for, including crockery, cutlery, a toaster and even bear spray! We used the laundry, which was fine. I was hovering between 4 and 5 stars, but opted for 5 because of Lana, who welcomed us on both occasions and was so helpful. She gave us some ideas of places to visit. Elk Falls and Quinsam Hatchery were well worth it.
Anchor Inn and Suites

This hotel was wonderful years ago. We started going to the Anchor Inn 25 years ago..., great pub, beautiful decor, awesome sushi bar, great restaurant, clean rooms, nothing to complain about. This stay was the worst ever. Breakfast included for free at a cost of $200.00 nightly. Uncooked sausages, eggs scrambled made from something unfresh, hashbrowns cold and overcooked, weak tasteless coffee, it was off to Tim Hortons for us. And now the hot tub, our trip there in January found the jets not working as did our recent visit, not working. Dog friendly they say, at an extra cost of course, no poo bag dispenser....and no area for them to poop atall. Now our room was filthy, candy wrappers by the bed, filthy stained smelly carpets, someones blue pills on the loose and torn carpet. The bathroom contained a toilet so loose it slid back and forth and sideways during touch-down. Happily the beds had fresh sheets, and clean towels were abundant. Also, the front desk staff were very nice as were the ladies serving in the restaurant. Rumor has it this place will get a renovation this fall. I hope the new owner-owners read this review and get serious about this renovation, this place needs way more than paint and carpet.
