"I stayed here before it became part of the Bonvoy Marriott hotels. It's an excellent choice for a family holiday—the rooms are spacious and immaculately clean. The neighborhood offers plenty of great cafes and restaurants nearby. However, if you want to visit the city center, you'll need to take a Grab or taxi as it's not within walking distance."

Whether you're visiting for business or leisure, Zaco Suites offers an affordable, family-friendly, and business-friendly accommodation experience in a prime city-center location. We are committed to providing a welcoming home away from home, ensuring a memorable and enjoyable stay in Kota Kinabalu.

"Pros: Location: It's not in the busiest area, but the main attractions are within walking distance. Room: My 8th-floor room faced the river, offering a peaceful environment and a beautiful sunrise view in the morning. The room came with a basic kitchen and utensils, allowing for cooking. There's also a pool and gym available on the 4th floor. Customer Service: The customer service was quick to respond to issues like internet problems, and providing bottled water and toilet paper. However, items I asked staff to deliver to my room (like bottled water) were significantly delayed. Self-check-in was convenient, and no deposit was required. Suggestions: Provide bottled water upon check-in (my friend, who booked an SCSP apartment with another company, had 10 bottles already in their room upon arrival). Add clearer instructions for the hot water switch in the bathroom (I had to ask customer service to find out where it was). Room cleanliness needs improvement; the sofa was dusty. I suggest arranging for cleaning during longer stays."

Hotel near Kota Kinabalu City Center,Kota Kinabalu
Hotel Grandis Kota Kinabalu Named after the Ascidieria Grandis (Eria grandis), an endemic orchid found on Mount Kinabalu, Hotel Grandis embodies the natural beauty and warm hospitality of Sabah. Ideally located in the heart of Kota Kinabalu, the hotel offers guests easy access to the city's premier shopping, dining, entertainment, and cultural attractions, making it an excellent choice for both business and leisure travellers. Conveniently situated just 15 minutes from Kota Kinabalu International Airport, the hotel is directly connected to Suria Sabah Shopping Mall and is within walking distance of Jesselton Point Ferry Terminal or DBKK Jetty, the gateway to the islands of Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park. Guests can also easily explore nearby attractions such as Gaya Street, the Sunday Market, major banks, and the city waterfront. For meetings, conventions, and exhibitions, Sabah International Convention Centre is only a five-minute drive away.

"Let's cut to the chase – this is an established, high-end hotel in Kota Kinabalu with decent service and a good location, still worth considering. The hotel is right next to Suria Sabah shopping mall. It's a short walk to Gaya Street, the Durian Night Market, and the new DBKK Jetty. While it might not be as luxurious as the Magellan Sutera or Shangri-La, it's incredibly convenient for food, shopping, and transportation. The decor feels a bit dated, leading to poor lighting, especially in the bathroom. The soundproofing for doors, windows, and walls is quite good, but the air conditioning is incredibly noisy. Also, the power outlets are outdated in terms of specifications and placement; not being able to charge devices by the bed is quite frustrating. Remember to bring a couple of extra travel adapters. The bathroom drain was a bit clogged, and drying clothes was also inconvenient. The most significant drawback is the large apartment hotel currently under construction next door. Some rooms now face directly onto the construction site, and once it's finished, the view will likely be quite impacted. However, the hotel's management still demonstrates the competence of an established brand. The concierge is always smiling and helpful with opening doors and carrying luggage. The front desk staff are polite and patient in their communication. Although the breakfast selection is limited, the quality is consistently high. Nasi Lemak is served daily, and the sambal sauce is absolutely on par with renowned local restaurants – rich in flavor, perfectly spicy, and the fried anchovies aren't overly salty. The milk from the coffee machine is also of good quality."

Apartment is at Jesselton Quay Tower 2. Located on high floor with stunning full ocean and sunset view Conveniently-located next to the Jesselton Jetty (island hopping) and Suria Shopping Mall and walking distance to Gaya Street. FREE Parking, WIFI, TV box, Washing Machine, Basic cooking, Infinity pool. Downstairs to 24H convenience store, restaurants. - 3 min walk to Jesselton Point Jetty - 5 min walk to Suria Sabah Shopping Mall - 10 min walk to Gaya Street (food & night market) - 10 min Grab to Waterfront bars & clubs - 13 min Grab to imago Mall - 20 min Grab to Airport

"When I arrived, it was late at night and the area around the apartment was dimly lit. But the daytime view was completely different! There are many restaurants downstairs, which is convenient for breakfast! Taxis are also easy to find! Even if it takes too long to get a taxi during peak hours, it's only a 10-minute walk to Gaya Street! The apartment is quite spacious, clean, and comfortable. It would be even better if there was a bit more space around the two single beds! The sea view is really nice, but there's construction going on in front. There's a washing machine and dryer, which is convenient for laundry, and a drying rack for hanging clothes! There's also a kitchen for cooking! The bathroom hygiene was just okay; there were stains on the walls, and the rinsing cups weren't very clean. The apartment also has a swimming pool and children's play facilities!"

"I booked a twin room with club access. The club lounge was fantastic for sunset views in the afternoon, and they offered cocktails. The city view room was quiet and spacious, with complete amenities. The location is also quite good; it's about a 10-minute walk to seafood restaurants (like Yu Kee, KK, and Welcome Seafood Restaurant) and roughly 15 minutes to Suria Sabah shopping mall."

"The hotel room was the most comfortable and pleasant I've ever stayed in. The corridors and rooms were incredibly clean, with no strange odors. We booked a twin bed but got an extra bed, which was a shame since we didn't have the kids with us this time! The room was spacious and comfortable, truly well-maintained even though the hotel is over 10 years old. For less than RM150, we got a room that felt like a homestay, which would normally cost RM250, complete with a large one-door fridge and a pantry with a sink. We'll definitely come back again and bring the kids to stay and enjoy the pool. Thumbs up to Ming Garden Hotel & Residence!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻"

Overall, the hotel is good, especially because of its convenient location near a shopping mall, making it easy to purchase daily necessities and other items. The breakfast café is spacious and offers a wide variety of food choices. However, there are a few areas that could be improved. While the breakfast selection is extensive, the taste of the food was somewhat disappointing and could be enhanced. In addition, the cleanliness of the room needs more attention. The floor felt dusty, as if it had not been properly swept or vacuumed. Guests who are not comfortable wearing the hotel slippers may notice the dust more easily. With improvements to room cleanliness and food quality, the overall guest experience would be much better.

Extremely satisfied! The lovely lady at the front desk upgraded our room, and her service was fantastic – she even spoke Chinese and answered all our questions. Every time we took a taxi in, they'd check our booking information, which made us feel very safe. The breakfast buffet was also very rich and diverse, and the kids had a great time. The lifeguard at the pool was also very responsible, which gave us peace of mind. The sunset was also beautiful, with few people around, so it wasn't crowded. Highly recommend!

I chose this hotel for a one-night stay before heading to the overwater bungalow the next day. Although the room facilities were a bit old, they were very clean. There's a convenience store right downstairs, and it's very close to the pier. The sea breeze was a bit loud at night, but the breakfast was excellent and plentiful.

Getting there: You need to take the hotel's special speedboat from Megaton Jetty, which takes 10 minutes to reach the hotel's pier. This is charged per person. The hotel has a Southeast Asian resort vibe, with wooden structures that show their age. There are many monkeys 🐒 in the trees outside the room, as well as lizards of all sizes and hornbills. The sand isn't very fine, and the beach isn't large; it's not really big enough for a good walk. There are no other businesses, just the hotel's three restaurants. There are also corals 🪸 not far from the shore. Cleanliness: Average. Ambiance: If you're not too particular about room cleanliness, everything else is pretty good, but I personally care a lot about it. Service: Our luggage was taken directly to our room. When we were leaving, we had to depart at 6 AM, and they prepared breakfast for us – two large bags with fruit, bread, coffee, and milk. We mentioned that the shrimp was delicious but found some other dishes hard to get used to, so the chef specially prepared a delicious plate of shrimp just for us and brought it to our table.

The room was simple and clean, and although the decor was a bit old-fashioned, the location was excellent. However, rooms facing the street were indeed quite noisy. It's very close to the pier, directly opposite a large shopping mall, and right next to Gaya Street... super convenient for everything.

This time I brought my family and we encountered heavy rain (luckily, we still enjoyed the most beautiful sunset in the evening). There was a 'fiasco' on the beach (the hotel's quick and professional handling made us feel even more at ease to relax and play), and a 'four-legged intruder' in the pool (the hotel swiftly caught and relocated it). We saw little squirrels, stepped on live clams, admired the full moon on the 16th, and celebrated my father's birthday, which was all arranged by the hotel. RAINA's thoughtful advice about the road construction saved us from missing our flight, and so much more. If you're coming to Kota Kinabalu for a sunset holiday and have the budget, come to Shangri-La Rasa Ria. And if you ever meet RAINA again, just hand all your troubles over to her! ☺

First off, a shout-out for the great location – facing the sea, right next to Mankali, and very close to Imago. The hotel itself is quite large, but a bit dated. There were some basic issues with water and electricity; the shower water pressure fluctuated and sometimes there was no hot water. Breakfast wasn't very good. However, overall it's still decent value for money.

had a very pleasant stay at Citadines Waterfront Kota Kinabalu. The location is excellent and very convenient, with plenty of restaurants, shops and attractions within easy walking distance. The property feels modern, clean and well maintained. My room was comfortable, spacious and clean, and the facilities were very good. I especially enjoyed the overall atmosphere and the waterfront location. The staff were friendly, professional and helpful throughout my stay, and check-in and check-out were smooth. Overall, it was a comfortable and enjoyable experience with good value for money. I would definitely consider staying here again when visiting Kota Kinabalu and would recommend it to solo travelers looking for a convenient and comfortable place to stay.
