Hotel Do Caracol

The good: The hotel is less than 1 km from the historic center of Angra do Heroismo but has the bus stop to the center right in front ( the cost for one way ticket is 0,35 Euros) , buses come every 15 min. , the ride is about 10 min. It is right next to the public beach ”Zona balnear da Silveira”and overlooks the sea Excellent service (front desk, restaurant, spa etc) Has one outdoor and one indoor swimming pools. The bad: Facilities need a serious uplifting : it is generally clean but has the feel of the 80'. The outdoor swimming pool is filthy: even my kids didn't want to go in : bird poop at the rim, hairs and other debris floating in the water, mirky water etc. The one indoor is very clean , maybe because no-one use it? We ate at the buffet two straight nights and on the second night, you can see that left over from the night before was used ex : night #1 had a delicious sword fish dish and on the second night, we had fish pasta... exactly same appetizers for both nights etc... Overall, it was OK for our stop over on our returning trip... but I would stay elsewhere if I was to visit Terceira.
Azoris Faial Garden - Resort Hotel

The location of the hotel is ideal. The seafront and all amenities are easily found and well sign posted. The swimming pool, to be fair, was lovely and a calm place to be. The receptionist was helpful in booking a tour for us , thank you We started in a corner room of a block in the grounds which was small but possible. Like others have said the hotel is dated and in need of an upgrade. Breakfast was pleasant - the yoghurt and fruit was welcome. After one exceptionally humid hot night trying to make the AC system work we reported it as faulty. The engineer came and looked at and apparently ‘ it was working’ - yes the fan works loudly but there was no cooling. The staff readily offered us a different room which we accepted and then agreed as we checked out that the air conditioning at the hotel is not strong… ie doesn’t work,! A hard bed and 2 sleepless nights isn’t fun on holiday.
Azoris Royal Garden – Leisure & Conference Hotel

The front desk employees were exceptionally helpful. The gave good suggestions for restaurants and sites on the island. They even called a site to make sure they were open on a national holiday when most places were closed. The restaurant had a large selection of food choices on their breakfast and dinner buffets. We ordered Ala carte at dinner and the food was hot and freshly prepared. Not a lot of spice, but flavorful non the less. The location was a little away from town center and had no ocean views. Rooms were very clean and special requests were handled quickly.
VIP Executive Azores Hotel

A fabulous hotel, going through ownership changes when I stayed as some features are unfinished construction but no complaints. The views from every part of the hotel are beautiful. The bedroom was superb, the swimming pool was very nice and breakfast was amazing. The dinner was good but minimal on offer due to change of ownership. This will be a very very lovely hotel once it has been fully completed and maintained....defiantly worth going back to again in the future. The reception, restaurant and bar staff were very friendly and made my stay very welcoming.
Caloura Hotel Resort

The Caloura Hotel Resort impressed us all round. Super nice room with a great view of the sea from the balcony. Beautifully landscaped grounds all around with lots of flowers and flowering shrubs. About 15 minutes by car from Ponta Delgada, it is in a beautiful, quiet location, except for the merry chattering of seabirds at night. Very, very great breakfast buffet - my personal favorite the carob bread rolls, I have never eaten such delicious rolls! The evening buffet was too expensive for us at €28, because we stuck to the salads and desserts in the evening, the main courses were not to our liking, and the a la carte food was more recommendable. The staff is super friendly and helpful, the rooms are super clean! We will come back next year! 100 recommended!!! 100 empfehlenswert!!!
Atlantida Mar Hotel

Our best stay of the 6 Azores islands/ Our best stay of the 6 Azores islands We stayed only 2 nights on 7 and 8 June in a junior suite. Very spacious with a living room and associated small kitchen, sleeping room with very spacious beds, bathroom and terrace with ocean view. 2 TVs available. The hotel is located just over the ocean. The hotel is located just over the ocean. There is a 'walk' along which you come on about 10' steps in the centre of Praia with the O pescador restaurant. This is how you can leave your car at the hotel and have the opportunity to try the Azorian wines. It was far from our best residence and breakfast of our 6 visiting islands (Sao Miguel,,Terceira, Graciosa, Sao Jorge, Pico and Faial). We would have liked to stay there for a day, but our planning for inland flights and boat connections was not allowed, because there are not all the days. flight and boat connections with all islands (after Terceira, Graciosa). If we come back to the Azores, it's first Terceira, With Atlantida Mar. We stayed in a junior suite for just 2 nights on the 7th and 8th of June. Very spacious with a lounge and associated small kitchen, sleeping area with very spacious beds, bathroom and terrace with a view of the ocean. 2 televisions available. Made use of the outdoor pool and hot tub. Very friendly reception. Excellent buffet breakfast with a large choice, including fresh fruit. The goods were constantly replenished. The hotel is located just above the ocean. In between there is a 'walking track' along which you reach the center of Praia after about 10 steps, including the O pescador restaurant. For example, you can leave your car at the hotel and you have the opportunity to taste the Azorian wines. It was by far our best stay and breakfast of our 6 islands visited (Sao miguel, Terceira, Graciosa, Sao Jorge, Pico and Faial). Normally we would have liked to stay there one day longer, but our planning for the internal flights and boat connections did not allow this, as there are not all days flight and boat connections with all islands (after Terceira, Graciosa). If we ever come back to the Azores, it will be Terceira in the first place, with the Atlantida Mar.
The Shipyard - Angra

A superb hotel for our stay in Terceira for 3 nights. We stayed in a large one bedroom apartment which had a small kitchenette/living area and huge bathroom. The free garage parking was appreciated in an area with limited parking. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the old town. Our apartment was on the second floor with a large glass fronted balcony which overlooked the boat yard and sea beyond. The staff were excellent from the moment we arrived with reception providing directions to the secure underground parking for our car, the restaurant staff who were friendly, helpful and professional and housekeeping. The breakfast was superb it included a large buffet with everything from local cheeses and cold meats, bread, pastries and even fresh honey draining from the honey comb. There was also a cooked breakfast on offer but as the buffet was great we didn't go with cooked option. We also appreciated the option to have a barista made coffee with breakfast if desired.
Terra Nostra Garden Hotel

This is a beautiful hotel that looks like the set of the Poirot series with its beautiful art deco interior. The main restaurant was fabulous we did a tasting menu one evening and it was a great experience. The staff here were super attentive and we felt cosseted both in the evening and at breakfast. Reception staff, cleaning staff all excellent. The garden terrace bar however was appalling, it was coronation day in England so we ordered afternoon tea I can only say one word , DREADFUL! The staff in here are indifferent never around for you to ask for anything and the afternoon tea was a joke ! Very disappointing. I f I had visited here earlier in our visit my opinion of the whole hotel would have been blighted However this area apart the hotel is lovely and well worth splashing out for a few days to visit this beautiful area! Be aware I was a little affected by the noise of the ongoing renovations in the gardens — the lorries beeping from 8.45 certainly detracted from the peace and beautiful birdsong these renovations are due to be finished by end June.
The Lince Azores

My opinion is that this establishment has a confused identity in that it is unhospitable, bordering on unfriendly, poorly located and charging high end rates but also provides touches one would expect to find in a cheap budget hotel chain. The Positives : Our room was on the Executive Floor and was spotlessly clean, big in size, with a comfortable bed and good quality bedding. For this it gets a star. The ensuite was also large with an in-bath shower, with a good quality rain forest head, however I personally dislike in-bath showers and consider them to be a safety hazard. I believe every hotel at this stage should be providing a walk in shower. The hotel has a nice pool with a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi for which it received its second star, however these areas can be busy when tours are in the hotel. The Negatives : Our room did not have a balcony hence the sea view was really irrelevant due to the window cill being above waist level therefore the view could not be enjoyed other than in a standing position. The tea tray was abysmal, indeed I have never seen its likes in a budget hotel !! paper cups were provided ???? when I asked at reception, I was simply informed that's what they provide. Paper cups in an executive room ?Any environmental value was quickly superseded by wrapping each in single use plastic. Furthermore no milk was provided nor was any welcome note or complimentary water. I have never stayed in any hotel anywhere worldwide that didn't provide complimentary water in the room, let alone one charging such nightly rates. The buffet breakfast is substantial, yet here again there were issues as discussed in previous reviews and touches of budget chain hotel. I yet again simply cannot understand any executive chef permitting cold plates to be provided to serve hot food, not that all the food will be hot to start with, indeed depending on your luck and timing the food will vary from warm to stone cold and certainly cannot afford heat loss to a cold plate. Tea and coffee are self served from 2 machines in front of which you queue up !!! a queue which can be significant when tours are in occupation. I have never queued for tea in such a manor in any hotel previously, it was more akin to getting tea in a petrol station than a high end hotel. Unhospitable : We arrived early after a long journey and dropped the bags at the hotel, we were informed that the room wasn't ready however if such became available prior to the 15.00 check in time that the hotel would ring us. We called back at 14.00 hot and sweaty, ready to throw ourselves in a chair for an hour to be told that the room was now ready ??? Well then as I have complained strongly in another review, where was our phone call ??? Mind you in hind sight the reception did not show much hospitality in many issues. We walked in and out of the hotel, past reception, several times per day, and not once did the receptionists (at times up to 3 of them at times) lift there eyes or acknowl
Antillia Hotel
4.2/572 Reviews
Antillia's facilities - pool, spa, fitness center - may put this in a 4-star category, but our room definitely was not at that level. I booked Antillia through an Azores tour operator and I trusted their judgment on this being a 4-star hotel, based on a wonderful experience we'd had in Terceira last year. I was expecting something comparable. I don't know if we were put on the ”package traveler” section of the hotel - we had to take two elevators to the lobby area and were some distance away - but there was no coffee maker or kettle, no mini bar (despite a listing of items on the desk), no toiletries aside from a body/hand/hair gel, and despite asking for a double room, we were given twin beds. Which were pushed together, but made up separately. It's not the same. I was surprised when I saw housekeeping staff leave a room with a kettle, so maybe some rooms have a coffee/tea-making setup. Breakfasts were sumptuous but were not included in our rate. I know that's an issue for the tour company and not the hotel. The best part of our room was the balcony. The room was clean and tidy, but no frills. The reviews calling this a luxury hotel - I'm not sure where that comes in. I joked to my husband that it would be easier for someone to get their legs waxed at Antillia than to find a cup of coffee : ) Check out Apito Dourado down the street for a great meal!
