Wildes Inns

I have used this place a few times for groups. This time they really fell short. There is no one in charge. Very difficult to speak to a manager. Issues with the restaurant. Short staffed. Food was too salty. Soya sauce based dishes were not edible. No one asked when sent back unfinished if there was an issue. Only robots delivering food and very inexperience staff. Couldn't order more drinks in good time. Breakfast is buffet and is very basic. Ok. It is clean. However, for £250 a room I think that it is overpriced. Thank goodness for Trip.com much better rate 2 days before the event. Baths do not drain. Taps and fittings are loose or not finished properly. Poor customer service overall, despite having 5 rooms in our group and dinner for 10. Said they would call me back. Which they have not. That was after speaking to a man who said that he was not the manager, had only worked there for 8 weeks, yet told me that I was not familiar with the service industries! Such a shame. Will have to find somewhere else next time. Not a hint of a smile or an apology or anything to say that he would feed back. 🤷
The Fountain Tea Rooms B&B

Bit of a mixed-bag this one. I stayed in the twin room for 2 nights. The room oddly looks as though it’s been lifted and deposited direct from a Premier Inn (but smaller). It’s dark due to the use of dark purple and dark wood on almost everything. The bathroom is fresh and contemporary though. There’s a generous selection of teas and coffee plus biscuits. One of the reasons I chose the Fountains tearoom and B&B was because of the tearoom downstairs. I arrived, after a long tiring journey, at 3.30pm thinking I was just in time to grab a snack in the tearoom, however Iike a lot of visitors if you read the comments dating back years, I was told by a very offhand older member of staff the kitchen was closed. It closes at 3pm, so all the info and literature stating that tearoom hours are 9am to 4pm are misleading to say the least. (The owner later stated that ‘our staff have families to go home to’). When I asked I was also told that breakfast was from 9am, even though this staff member was now fully aware I was a guest, and I mentioned I needed to be somewhere by 10am the next morning. So the next morningI hung around to 9am and dashed down to breakfast to find other guests already eating breakfast, a (different) member of staff said guests were served from 8.30am! I complained by text to the owner who responded very quickly saying she’d look into it. The owner could not be faulted for responding to queries/complaints - the evening before I’d rung her asking how the heating worked as it was cold and she came out straight away to check the thermostat in the hall. The breakfast was prompt, hot and very tasty. Other negative points: The mattress had springs starting to poke up, the pillows were thin and lumpy (they’re cheap enough to buy for goodness’ sake). The thinnish duvet (no sheets apart from the fitted one on the mattress) only just covered the bed, so wouldn’t be great for larger visitors. I personally will not be staying again.
Delta Hotels Breadsall Priory Country Club

Lovely location, (pretty village) lovely grounds and impressive entrance. However, we weren’t in the main hotel. The room was large but old fashioned. The roof sloped at the sides which we banged our heads on several times. The window was small which made it stuffy and it was very dark, no main light in the bedroom only lamps. Bed was king size and comfortable. The room and bathroom was clean. We used the restaurant once for dinner and we had 2 breakfasts and the food was nice and reasonable priced. Breakfast was self service (as ours was included) with a good and plentiful variety. The staff were friendly and helpful but professional. We didn’t use the pool in the end as it meant going outside and back inside, as our room was not connected to a covered route to the pool. Nothing really to complain about but we did expect the room to be a bit more luxurious. Slightly overpriced for the room. I expect the price was based on the available amenities.
Derby Mickleover Hotel, BW Signature Collection

We had a great trip for my sister's hen do weekend! The hotel is a fantastic place to stay with a great pool (one jacuzzi wasn't working on our trip), a gym, restaurant and a bar! The room we had was very clean, though the windows needing updating as there was at times some noise from outside which could of been blocked out with better windows. The amenities in our room were ok, our shower was very poor and we had to ask a few times for our beds to be bed and our teas and coffees to be topped up. The breakfast was delicious in the morning though it had obviously been very busy as nearly every table was a mess. The breakfast could definitely benefit from adding options for people who are vegan or gluten free as these options were not available during our stay. Overall our stay was fantastic and the beds were incredibly comfortable ! With a few additions and changes this could of been a 10/10 stay but we were definitely stay again! Thank you!!
The Palace Hotel Buxton & Spa

This place is like the ritz. It has to be the best place in Buxton to take your bird for a luxury night wothot kids. I was chatting to the guy behind the bar while I was waited for my woman to get herself ready and he was telling me how the staff are partying all night and the managers don’t care and they join in. Wot a place this would be to work it’s so nice and clean inside and the bed was the best to treat my woman to on aniversary session. And she isn’t the smallest of girls but she is my one and only babe so I want to say thanks for the most enjoyable night we have had in a long time. We don’t get to do this often with kids but we had a gift voucher we won on a raffle. Just want to say big thankyou and your staff in the bar are top
The Kedleston Country House
4.5/540 Reviews
Stayed for two nights in this beautiful country hotel. A very warm welcome on arrival and then shown to a beautiful large room, The Kedleston. It had everything you could wish for and a very comfortable bed. I was staying to visit relatives nearby but it would make an excellent base for exploring the area. Kedleston Hall, National Trust is on the doorstep and a must to visit. Breakfast was freshly cooked and delicious, I didn’t eat in the evenings but the menu looked really good and if breakfast was anything to go on it will be fabulous. I will definitely return to stay and also take my family to the restaurant. Thank you to all your excellent staff for a very enjoyable stay.
Casa Hotel

I loved this hotel. The decor was tasteful, staff was extremely friendly. Rooms were cosy and clean. Had some drinks and snacks at their bar and the cocktails were really nice. Staff were attentive and polite. The dinner menu in the restaurant was really nice too. Breakfast became busy and I think the staff were struggling to keep up because I had to wait a while before glasses were stocked to get juice and milk was replenished for my tea. My only gripe about the room was lack of electrical sockets near the bedside tables to barge the phones. Would definitely stay here again.

Very good, highly recommended if you drive by yourself. The experience is very good, hygienic and atmospheric, the breakfast is also rich, and there is a swimming pool.
Makeney Hall Hotel

We arrived and were given the key to our room, which was very small window didn't close properly we only stayed 2 nights, when we returned after a day out went back to our room the bed wasn't made shower gel and shampoo not replaced, no tea, coffee, milk or bottles of water, when I went to reception and someone eventually appeared she said did I put out the door sign to refreshen the room I told her I didn't see any door signs she gave me some tea, coffee, milk and some biscuits. When I returned to our room, I found the sign under the fire exit information on the table, not inside the door like most hotels. When we was leaving I took our bags down to the car while my checked if we had everything we felt that we had to leave our room because the cleaner was waiting outside our room for us to go so she could clean it we did mention this when we booked out. Wasn't very impressed with the hotel or staff. We did ask about breakfast when we arrived, but she wasn't very sure about the price or if it was a buffet breakfast she said it shouldn't be more than £15.
Leonardo Hotel Derby

Very disappointed. Only stayed one night it was enough. Started with the evening meal. Went for the soup to start with but don't like brocoli and Stilton so opted for the very basic salad. Was told the mains were Shepherds pie, salmon pasta bake and a vegetable noodle dish. Wanted Shepherds pie told none left it was only 4.40pm. Allergic to fish and the veg were greasy. I was offered 4 small new potatoes and about a dozen garden peas. I went to get more salad none left. I asked for bread and you would have thought I was asking for gold. 2 desserts but guess what no cheesecake left. Who ever orders needs to look at numbers. When a coach party comes in they know how many to cater for surely. Went to bed it was clean but very old and mattress soft when we got in we rolled to centre. Only 2 hours sleep. The breakfast was plentiful this morning but could have been warmer.
