Overall nice hotel with very good facilities. I liked the edgeless swimming pool where you can have broader view of coastal area of KK including the ***a Island. The gym is also modern and a pleasant place to go. The restaurants are also attractive and i liked the breakfast the most as there are a lot of food options. 15/F roooftop is a good place for appreciation of sunset. The only problem is their room service efficiency: when you try to order something you might have to wait for a long time. Hope there’s improvement when I come back again in future.

I've had the privilege of staying in numerous Shangri-La's throughout Southeast Asia, and this particular one felt somewhat dated and in dire need of modernisation. I could see signs of improvements in progress, with sections that appeared to have already received a facelift. On my first day, I ventured to the sauna, only to find the temperature so lukewarm that I couldn't even work up a sweat. I voiced my discontent, and I'm pleased to report that the issue was addressed promptly by the next day. One aspect that left me somewhat disenchanted was the interaction, or rather lack thereof, between the staff and guests. It didn't quite embody the exemplary service one would expect from a high-end 5-star establishment. However, there was a shining exception to this observation - Addy, who was stationed at the breakfast area. Addy demonstrated a commendable level of attentiveness, engaging guests at their tables and ensuring needs were met promptly. Whether you required additional items or sought information, Addy was the person to turn to. This kind of service truly exemplified the standard one would anticipate from a hotel of this caliber. I did have an enjoyable stay, but for this hotel to remain a five star there is room for improvement.

The location is convenient, it has plenty of good spa and restaurants nearby, however, it was too close to the fish market, you can smell the fish once you left the lobby. The overall hygiene is fine, bedsheet and towel are in very good condition, however, there are quite a lot of strains in the surfaces of toilet, also the shower room. And I found some ants at a corner of the room. The facilities are good, swimming pool and the rooftop bar are decent. All staff I have met are nice and friendly.

Hotel is nice, clean and have good amenities. The room is clean, though not new, but all amenities are working fine. The bed is comfortable and comes with 2 pillows each. The room even has a study table. We use it as a dining table instead. The room has a unique toilet. The shower and toilet bowl is separated having a door each and next to each other. Also, the wall and door of the toilet can slide fully open exposing the sink and the doors of shower and toilet bowl. You can just slide to close everything if you want privacy. The hotel staffs are nice too and attend to your request promptly. I requested for extra pillow and they sent it within a few minutes. The breakfast was also good and delicious. They have a wide variety of dishes from local, western, Indian, Chinese. Though everyday is similar but they change certain dishes such as from fried noodle to fried kuey tiow, fried rice to nasi lemak, etc. The hotel is also close to the waterfront, eating places and walking distance to Suria Sabah shopping centre. Overall, a good hotel to stay in.

We especially like the bathroom with sitting bench~ a considerate design for guests who prefer to sit n shower. Restaurant staff were very well-mannered n helpful. The hotel is well located just opposite the Sabah Suria shopping mall, so it's very convenient if you wish to dine out or shop around…

My recent stay at The Pacific Sutera Hotel was nothing short of exceptional. Despite only spending 2 days and 1 night at the hotel, the level of service I experienced was truly top-notch. From the moment we stepped into the lobby until our departure, every aspect of our stay exceeded expectations. The hotel's attention to detail was evident in every corner, from the cleanliness of the facilities to the overall ambiance, which contributed to a memorable and enjoyable experience. However, what truly set this stay apart was the outstanding service provided by the hotel staff. I must make a special mention of one staff member whose name unfortunately escapes me. She mentioned that she has been a part of the hotel's team for the past 20 years, and her dedication to her work was palpable in every interaction we had with her. Well maintained resort and good service. Breakfast spread is good and yummy. Harbour is just 5-10 mins walk away to take boat ride to the Tunku Abdul Rahman islands. Boat ride is only about 15-20mins to the islands. Lovely great swimming pools for both adults and kids and a small private beach for snorkeling. Rooms are clean and spacious. Sunset is beautiful. Love the stay and we will be back. Thank you!

The staff is very nice & efficient. We noted it’s a smoking room after check-in, and the staff arranged another non-smoking room for us as requested upon booking. The swimming pool locates on the rooftop, with a rooftop bar & restaurant. Located near the city center, close to lots of local food & restaurants.

Overall the hotel was nice and located close to beach. The beach was clean and nice as well. The hotel has variety of kitchen to dine in and lots of options and cuisine. Apart from that the hotel also has range of outdoor activities for kids and adults. You can always find something to do.

We spent 3 nights at Gaya Island Resort and had a great time, I thought I would write a review because there are a few things worth considering before you go. Firstly, the place itself is amazing, the staff are super friendly and caring - probably the most professional I have ever experienced in my many years of travelling. So all in all it was a wonderful stay. The things worth noting are as follows: 1. The sunbeds, I think may have mentioned it and it's worth mentioning again - there are nowhere near enough. When you pay and arm and a leg to stay at a beautiful resort it is annoying that they haven't found a way to add more sunbeds. People get there early, throw on their towels and stay or disappear and the seat is gone for the day. This is a solvable issue and the resort should so something about it. 2. Check in is after 3 - could be later - and it's not flexible, so if you are arriving earlier be prepared to sit around waiting for your room. It would be nice if they could flex a little as waiting hours for a room without your bags is not a joy, but it is what it is. 3. Eating - you are on the resort, so you are eating in one of their restaurants - no other options available. There are a few restaurants so not really a problem (we did the hot pot restaurant and it was great), but good to be aware. By far the most expensive places we ate in Malaysia, but I guess given the quality of the resort it wasn't a surprise and the main restaurant is reasonable enough. 4. Activities - my wife and daughter did the cooking class and loved it, we did the night walk - which was fun and me and my son did the coral garden. The Coral garden was fun and I was lucky to see a big old shark. However there is a large amount of plastic floating on the surface of the water that is quite concerning and makes the whole place not feel so clean. The corals and fish look healthy so may be fine, but be prepared to swim through bottles and crisp bags to see the fish. The local resorts and local authorities should really work together to resolve and you pay the tourist tax, so not sure where that's going, but not to plastic clearance by the look of it. Hope that's helpful. all in all, it's a beautiful place to stay, could just do with a tweak here and there to make it even better

My Husband and I had previously stayed at the Nexus resort in 2016 and fell in love with this resort so decided to revisit for our mini honeymoon in April this year. We booked a garden view room with a free upgrade to an Ocean panorama room. The view from the room was beautiful. House keeping came every day couldn’t fault them, beds made and provided fresh bottles of drinking water each day. room has several USB ports in the desk which came in handy when our travel adapter didn’t work. However we did encounter a few hick-ups with the room. We spent 2 days without water in our room, and one with no hot water in the shower- once we were informed about due to maintenance, the second time there was no explanation for what had happened. Hot and sweaty from humid Malaysian weather our only option was a shower in the garden wing which apparently still had water- reception offered us a buggy from reception to the garden wing for a shower, however to apologise for the lack of water we were eventually offered after calling 3 times to find out why there was no water, we were offered a free dinner & invite to their cocktail hour at the Nexus club, which was quite nice. Happy Hour- every bar & restaurant had a happy hour- which according to the sign on the noticeboard it was 5-7 every day, however when we went to each of these bars they had a sign saying happy hour was a different time, so it got quite confusing they should really update these signs. Beds were comfy enough two types of pillows one hard and one soft, options to order more pillows through the “-Roomie App” which is also meant to contain movies and TV shows in the app which you then stream to the TV, however we weren’t Able to get this connected, so didn’t have any TV as normal TV channels were just static. Rooms are very dated and could use some maintenance. Pool temperature was amazing, and we had the pool to ourselves most days. Spa was closed for maintenance and looked like it had been for awhile which was sad. The pool itself needs needs some upkeep as the bottom of the pool was coming up, splashes pool bar didn’t appear to be open, last time we loved enjoying cocktails in the pool. Room rates included a buffet breakfast, that had a great selection malay dishes, fruit, cereal and pastries. Only downside is most of the time the hot dishes were very cold despite being in a warmer. Location: resort is located about 40 minutes away from the city- so if you plan to see things in Kota Kinabalu city be prepared to spend money on grab, taxi or use of the resort transportation to the city for 35RM pp each way. My advice is use the Taxi Limousine service MR Din is a lovely taxi driver at the nexus and his rates are very reasonable. Resort Activities: the resort offers on site activities to keep both adults and kids entertained such as nature walks, coconut leaf weaving & cooking classes. The hotel is in a very good location, very close to shopping malls and restaurants. It is convenient to travel. The rooms are clean, the service facilities are complete, and the equipment is first-class. It is good and recommended to stay. Remember to contact the hotel before checking in.

Great resort. We stayed at ocean villa 30 for two nights. Well maintained and special place. The staff are truely amazing. A special thanks to Karl the resort manager for listining to our feedback and returning some good karma. Also many thanks to the restaurant chef for the best food we had so far in Malaysia. Some small improvements: - airconditioning is a bit too loud even in sleep mode to keep on during the night - during and after a tropical rainshower the plumbing could not take it anymore, we accept that, but not the smell it gave inside the room. The positive: - free water sports, kayak, subs - kayak to the mangrove, do it yourself - breakfast at your own jetty - very good food, best value for money - sevice orientated staff all around taking very good care of you - daily plastic cleanup from the resort. Remember it is not their waste. They do anything to minimise the plastic footprint, even providing your own drink bottles - very clean rooms, great beds, amazing bathroom - only a short boat trip from KK away Terima Kasih Echoresorts :)

First & foremost, biggest compliments to the housekeeping team! We arrived in our villa around 2pm, went out around 4, and only returned at night after dinner to find: a mosquito coiled lit outside our door, bed has been made, coffee cups washed, rubbish bin cleared, how thoughtful! The sight of the sea from the resort was superb, enhanced by the good weather. The welcome drink of calamansi juice with plum, aka Kitchai Ping as it’s known locally, was as good as my mom’s. We initially intended to have the weekend hi-tea, but apparently it had to be pre-booked at least a day before. Thanks to that we got to enjoy happy hour instead, before having the weekend BBQ dinner that we managed to book a slot upon arrival. Bartender gave us extra kicks in our cocktails, thank you for taking our relaxation up a notch! However we seemed to be unlucky with food serving. We booked for dinner at 6 but our happy hour session somehow made some miscommunications and delay. Food was good and a plenty, though we did notice satays were missing, but we were well fed. Breakfast order was also somewhat mixed up, kitchen must be overwhelmed with many guests, but we got what we wanted in the end. Overall we are happy with our stay. We didn’t manage to explore the trails, perhaps we may return for a day trip in the future, and have that weekend hi-tea we missed.
