The Bath Jane Austen Festival is the largest and longest-running Jane Austen festival in the world. The first Jane Austen Festival took place over a weekend in 2001 at the Jane Austen Centre in Bath. Today, the event has grown to a 10-day event, attracting over 3,500 visitors from around the world. The festival opens with the Regency Costume Promenade. Since 2004, over 1,000 people dressed in Regency costume have paraded through the streets of Bath, and the event holds the Guinness World Record for the Largest Gathering in Regency Costume. In Georgian Bath, people dress in hats, soldiers and drummers, and feel transported to the days of Jane Austen.
