Myfyrdodau Botanegol: Celf drwy’r Oesau
25 Gorffennaf
Ymunwch â ni i edrych ar y cysylltiad rhyfeddol rhwng planhigion a chelf, gan archwilio sut mae eu symbolaeth a’u hystyr wedi esblygu o’r canol oesoedd i’r oes fodern. Mae’r sgwrs yn datgelu’r sawl ffordd y mae planhigion wedi ysbrydoli mynegiant artistig drwy hanes. Ar ôl y ddarlith, gallwch fwynhau taith gerdded dywys drwy’r ardd, ble byddwn yn dod â’r syniadau’n fyw. Gan ddefnyddio enghreifftiau o waith celf, byddwn yn archwilio sut mae planhigion penodol sy’n cael sylw mewn gwaith celf yn cael eu hadlewyrchu yn y dirwedd fyw o’n cwmpas.
Mae’r holl ddigwyddiadau’n rhad ac am ddim, ond gwerthfawrogir rhoddion. Elw i gefnogi gwaith cynnal a chadw Gerddi Hanesyddol Plas Newydd

Botanical Muses: Art through the Ages
25th July
Join us for a fascinating look at the connection between plants and art, exploring how their symbolism and meaning have evolved from the medieval period to contemporary times. This talk reveals the many ways in which plants have inspired artistic expression throughout history. After the lecture, enjoy a guided walk through the garden, where we’ll bring these ideas to life. Using printed examples of artworks, we’ll explore how specific plants featured in art are reflected in the living landscape around us.
All events are free to attend, but donations are welcome. All proceeds go toward the support of Plas Newydd Historic Gardens.

Hit the Trail, North Wales (fully funded) | Llangollen
Jul 5, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Llangollen Rural
'The world isn't in your books and maps, it's out there' - J.R.R. Tolkien
Whether you're a road runner, trail runner or hillwalker, if you want to try running in the mountain environment, then this is the Girls on Hills event for you! A full day of guided trail running in North Wales with experienced, local guides who will give you advice on how to make your transition safely. We'll cover basic navigation, kit, training, nutrition, technique and mountain safety for running in the highland environment.
Sample wild and quiet trails with professional running guides from Girls on Hills. Routes will depend on the weather we experience but all runners will enjoy the wildness and rugged beauty of North Wales, as we take the 'trail less travelled' through breathtaking mountain scenery.
If you're a beginner, don't worry, you don't have to run the whole time (we do plenty of walking, chatting and stopping to soak up the views)!
Hit the Trail
is a relaxed and sociable day out with a distance of 8-12km, designed to set you up for your trail running journey. It is a supportive 'safe space' for women and not a boot-camp - our focus is place not pace! To find out more about what's involved visit:
www.girlsonhills.com/faqs
TICKET COST
Hit the Trail
is one of Girls on Hills' fully-funded 'Access Courses' and as such is perfect for those who feel impacted by barriers to participation.
This event is open to women who are eligible via our
Access Fund criteria
.
Tickets are allocated in good faith. We aim to help as many women as possible experience the many health and wellbeing benefits that come with trail running.
Due to the high-levels of cancellation that we experienced (at short notice) in 2024, this year we are charging a
£50.00 fully refundable deposit per ticket (i.e. the full ticket fee will be automatically refunded after attending the event).
This is to encourage participants to cancel their ticket in advance if unable to attend, so that we can make the space/s available to others who might need them, and avoid wasting precious Access Fund budget.
Can't afford it?
We recognise that some people face financial barriers to attending remotely located events like these. If this is you, then we have
3 x no-fee tickets available
. To request one of these tickets, please drop us an email at info@girlsonhills.com (note - we do not expect you to 'justify' your application, just simply state your need).
LOGISTICS
This event does not include any food or accommodation, allowing you the flexibility to choose your own if required, to suit travel logistics or budget.
We will also encourage lift-sharing whilst in the area, to reduce environmental impact and pressure on popular rural parking areas. This event can be accessed by public transport and the meet point will be walking distance from a bus stop.
Once booked, we will email you at the beginning of the event week to confirm final details. This email will also include a kit list, travel options and advice on where to park. We will meet up to check kit and discuss final plans over coffee before we start!
Please only book a space with us if you're reasonably confident you will be able to attend
(we do of course understand that sometimes life just gets in the way!) We can accept
cancellations up to two days prior to the event
(for a full refund) but after this time, your ticket is transferable only. This event is financed by our
Access Fund crowdfunding campaign
. Your understanding and support is very much appreciated.
We pride ourselves on being 'approachable and relatable' so please do get in touch with any concerns or queries you might have now or nearer to the event. If you are concerned about clothing/kit, please email us (we may be able to lend some items). We look forward to having some fun and showing you some great trail running in North Wales!

Morning Cyanotype Printing Workshop - Saturday 19th July 2025 | Pentredwr Community Centre (Old School)
Jul 19, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Llangollen Rural
During this workshop Caroline will guide you through the cyanotype printing process to create a set of beautiful unique prints. You will learn everything; from how to prepare the solution, coating and drying your paper, selecting botanicals or objects for your work, exposing to light, and washing and fixing your prints. Learn how to use natural sunlight or alternative sources of UV to achieve the right intensity and sharp results.
The event will be held at Pentredwr Community Centre (what3words: flamingo.gown.clenching). It is situated 3 miles from the beautiful town of Llangollen in North Wales, 14 miles from Wrexham and 23 miles from Chester.
There is a tiny carpark up the ramp to the school at the main entrance, but plenty of parking along the road.
All equipment and materials are provided along with tea, coffee and biscuits.
Cyanotype is a wonderfully addictive process. So if you would like to stay for both the morning and afternoon workshop to carry on creating, you're more than welcome. Please bring your own packed lunch.
Please wear comfortable clothing, that you don’t mind if chemicals accidentally splash onto. You can bring an apron if you prefer, and disposable gloves will be provided. Flowers and leaves will be available but you’re more than welcome to bring along your own items. These may be found objects, things that inspire you, or something with sentimental value. These may include; flowers, leaves or foliage (fresh or pressed), seed heads, leaf skeletons, antique lace, feathers, keys, grasses or any other flat or translucent objects you’d like to try to print.
Caroline Hodgson is a Botanical Artist specialising in the Cyanotype process. Her work has always been inspired by nature, and cyanotype printing incorporates a stunning collaboration between the sun, the elements and the natural world. The process allows her to capture the tiny intricate details of nature which are so exquisitely formed. Caroline has a BA Hons in Fine Art and Psychology and a Post Graduate Diploma in Art Psychotherapy. She worked as an Art Therapist for nearly twenty years before becoming a full time Artist in 2021 and setting up Indigo Moth Botanical Prints. Her prints are available in galleries throughout Wales and Shropshire, and you can follow her work at www.indigomoth.co.uk
