This comprehensive course is designed to teach you the essential principles of avalanche safety. The course includes online pre-recorded classroom content as well as a live ZOOM Q & A session. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to attend a field session at Bridger Bowl from 9am-3pm.
The online portion covers a range of topics necessary for understanding avalanches and avalanche terrain. Topics include an introduction to avalanches, recognizing avalanche terrain, terrain management for mechanized users, mountain weather and seasonal snowpack development, decision-making and the human factor, avalanche rescue, and using GNFAC web resources for trip planning.
To get the most out of the course, it is recommended to watch the pre-recorded videos ahead of time and come prepared with questions for the live Q & A session on November 29th at 7:00pm via ZOOM.
Registration is required for the course, and a donation is suggested. There is also a free ticket available for those who do not wish to donate. Participants should have basic skiing or snowboarding skills and the appropriate equipment for negotiating intermediate ski runs.
