Ochre Botanical Studios // Summer Meadow Workshop Floral Studio // South Trinity Road on Sat 30 Aug 2025 at 14:00 . Inspired by gardens in August and the sunkissed landscape around us, join us for a late summer afternoon spent in our workshop, learning how to create a meadowy long arrangement full of garden treasures that can sit elegantly on a mantle, at the base of a special dining table or on a step leading to a doorway, always looking like it had grown there naturally, effortlessly and beautifully. This hands-on workshop will look at the art of floral design using seasonal blooms and foliage. In line with Ochre's core values of promoting floristry practice that is responsible, ethical and environmentally concious, this workshop will focus on creating a meadow arrangement using sustainable techniques. This small class will gather together like-minded individuals who enjoy being around flowers, and all levels of experience will be supported. All tools and materials are provided and there will be light refreshments available throughout. Have an unforgettable morning at Edinburgh Zoo learning how to take better photographs of stunning animals and nature and understanding how to get the most out of your camera. These photo experience days have evolved from those we have successfully staged for adults over many years and provide an opportunity for younger photographers to take advantage and develop their skills further. Edinburgh Zoo provides fantastic opportunities for photographing animals and a selection of these have been chosen upon which to test and demonstrate a range of techniques on the day. With a small group size, and the opportunity to offer one-to-one tuition, we are confident of helping you improve your photography, whatever your level of expertise. Please note that this workshop is for participants ages 11-15 years. We are privileged that renowned professional photographer Laurie Campbell will be running the workshops. Laurie was actually a keeper at Edinburgh Zoo before embarking on a highly successful thirty year career as a nature photographer and has now returned as the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland's (RZSS) nature photographer in residence. He has over thirty five years’ experience in leading photographic workshops, has illustrated and authored several books including the bestselling ‘RSPB Guide to Bird & Nature Photography’; and has won twenty-three awards in the prestigious BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition. In 2014 he was awarded the RSPB's Lifetime Achievement Award. A selection of his work can be viewed at www.lauriecampbell.com FAQs Which animals are involved in the workshops? We aim to include meerkats, red pandas, rhinos and pygmy hippos. Please note, that we are unable to guarantee any specific animals on the day due to animal welfare issues. If any animals are off-show, we will replace this part of the day with an equivalent opportunity. Can I bring anyone with me when I’m doing my experience? Participants must be accompanied by a spectating guardian or adult (maximum one per child). Both the participant and accompanying adult's entry is included within the workshop voucher. After the workshop you are then able to go and explore the rest of the zoo for the afternoon. What are my transport/parking options getting to the event? For further information regarding our Photography Workshops please email events@rzss.org.uk How many people can be booked in for an experience? A maximum of 6 people will be booked on to each workshop. The small group size means that more time can be devoted to individuals. Do I have to pay entry to the Zoo? No, the workshop ticket includes entry for the day for the participant and the accompanying adult. Are there any age restrictions? Participants must be aged 11-15 years of age to participate with one accompanying adult present throughout the Workshop. What's included in the price of the workshop? The price includes half a day with the professional nature photographer and entry to the zoo for that day. Participants also receive free car parking and a 10% discount in our Gift Shop (not eligible on books or Fairtrade Stand products).Please note that car parking spaces are limited, especially during busier times of the year. What should I wear? Edinburgh Zoo is on a steep hill and there will be plenty of walking around, so wear comfortable and sturdy shoes or boots. Prepare for the weather – bring a hat and suntan lotion on sunny days, and layers and waterproofs if it’s looking rainy. We look forward to welcoming you and your family to our fun day once again with the Alpacas in aid of Marie Curie Hospice Edinburgh. You will be able to feed the Alpacas, have a meet and greet with them in their homestead and even work with some of their wool at our Spinning Workshop. There will also be children's activities, games, yoga, live music, a tombola, various craft stalls and refreshments so do bring lots of pennies to raise money for a jolly good cause. So book your slot, pack your wellies and brolly just in case, and come and join us for a fabulous fuzzy day. Please note (and sorry for the rather long list!): - please bring lots of pennies and folding money in particular to support Marie Curie (a card reader will be available too) - to enable us to manage traffic and numbers, you must book your slot and arrive within your allocated time.
